Justin Timberlake has had only 1 number one album on billboard as a solo artist with futuresex/lovesounds his first cd didn't reach number one. This is why I think your first guess of Justin Timberlake is better. The way I read the blind, the "successful solo career for the last few years" implies he *used* to be part of a group & then went solo, which definitely fits Justin Timberlake (solo success after group success with 'NSYNC). Justin Timberlake had legal problems a few years ago when some guy who worked at his restaurant (Southern Comfort is the name, I think) sued him for not getting overtime pay & other work-related conditions. Also that film he was in -- Alpha Dog -- had some legal problems -- one of the real-life murder suspects sued saying the film's release would prejudice his trial (I know this doesn't directly involve Justin Timberlake, but his name was involved in the movie & it is all I can come up with).
