Naomi Campbell Thinks This Ad Is Racist, Thankyouverymuch
Naomi Campbell is threatening to throw a lawsuit right at the faces of Cadbury for using her name and comparing her to a chocolate bar in one of their new ads. The "diva" Cadbury is referring to could be their bitchy office manager Naomi Lewis, but Naomi Campbell thinks this is about Naomi Campbell. Which it totally is. The diamonds give it away. Cadbury should've thrown in a blood-soaked maid's uniform and a broken BlackBerry too.
Naomi released this short statement to The Independent. A statement that will make every executive at Cadbury trade in their BlackBerry for an iPhone, because don't think that Naomi can't control any BlackBerry WITH HER MIND!
"I am shocked. It's upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people. I do not find any humour in this. It is insulting and hurtful."
Cadbury has since apologized, saying they didn't mean to offend anybody. They have also pulled the ad and will not run it again. Instead, they are retooling the ad for their new Bliss white chocolate and nuts bar and plan to use the tagline: "Move over Karl, there's a new kunt in town!"

I kinda get the impression Cadbury was actually just calling Naomi a b**** in a roundabout way... and maybe that doesn't have anything to do with the colour of her skin... but maybe to be safe they should have chosen a caucasian diva-celeb. Posh perhaps?
I don't know why people feel it necessary to tell Naomi how to feel. If she feels disrespected, than that's her right. I don't know why black people like being referenced or referred to food. There is no 'chocolate' or 'caramel' color in the crayola box, and not everyone wants or likes to be referred to as "yummy chocolate." I can understand the undertones she saw in this ad. A chocolate bar, and diamonds, ie her skin and her issues with blood diamonds.
No matter how crazy she has acted in her life, doesn't mean anyone has the right to call her every word in the curse book. And speaking as an American, Americans need to understand that their perspective and thoughts are not all mirrored across the word. Just because you are called chocolate in the us doesn't mean that is the norm, or a compliment in the UK. It isn't. Recognize this and try to think outside of the box.
And if there was nothing wrong with this ad, or she was making too much out of it, then Cadbury wouldn't have taken it down, regardless of how outraged she felt.

I get the point completely about the name calling, but here, that's not the case. Naomi Campbell is a beautiful fucking asshole who, had she not been a physically violent cunt who was legally punished for being so and who gladly accepted diamonds from that tyrant, would have loved for Cadbury, or better yet, Godiva, to use her in an ad. She's a spoiled, humourless brat who doesn't want anyone bringing up her anti-social behaviour. Anyone who sees racial connotations in this ad are totally overthinking it and pulling stuff out of their asses. Cadbury is trying to promote their chocolate bar as a rich and luxe. Naomi should be flattered that out of all the celebs in Britain, they picked her as being the top embodiment of rich and luxe. What a stupid, humorless slag she is---obviously she lacks the ability to laugh at herself.
I remember years ago, there was a model named Yasmin Ghauri. She was a contemporary of Naomi Campbell's. She recounted that in school in Canada, kids would call her "chocolate cake face" as an insult to her darker complexion. That I can see as being racist. But let's say Cadbury is saying that Naomi is like chocolate...completely different connotation. Chocolate, fine wine, sugar, honey, peaches and cream are all positive ways to compliment someone. Shit, if my husband said I was like chocolate, I'd be frickin happy for days.
Actually tanning and getting enough vitamin D from the sun prevents many cancers and even reduces the mortality from the rare skin cancers that result from an overdose of sunshine.
Black actually need tanning booths more than whites because they need extra sun to provide enough vitamin D since most of America does not provide enough intense sunshine for black people whereas whites can convert very little sunshine into enough vitamin D for their health.

I personally see no harm in this add, it's just a little humor, but then again, I'm not black. But isn't it commonplace to compare skin tones to food? People of all races seem to do so. I, for instance, would totally qualify as 'white bread' to some of you. And you may add 'cheesehead' to that because I'm from Gouda. Being compared to 'choclate' - even the vanilla kind - would somehow seem like an upgrade to me. Metaphorical language is everywhere all the time and stereotypes play a big part in it. I therefore don't think that the marketing department of Cadbury's doubles as a regional office of the Ku Klux Klan.

I know that there were a few white slaves, black slaveowners, and even American Indian slaveowners. And that the ones who sold most of those slaves to the white slavers were... guess what... AFRICANS (although they didn't think of them as such). And that a lot of black slavery was done with the Middle-East.
Not many people know that African-American slavery was also not the same for everyone, since the Dutch gave their slaves legal rights and kept their families together.
Nor, I bet, do people know that the word "slave" actually comes from the name for a WHITE people, the Slavs. After all, the Slavic people are super-white-skinned, so their suffering doesn't count.

I think you should pick up some books about genocide, slavery and underclasses (official or unofficial) throughout history. Trying to water it down to a PC "the problem is whites/males/Christians/Westerners and their evil capitalist ways" is just offensive to ALL peoples who have been oppressed, because you're trivializing their sufferings.
