When Guardian Angels Throw In The Towel
We all know the story of Ryan Dunn's untimely death when he rocketed his Porsche off the road after filling his tank with the nectar of the gods, killing himself and his passenger. In an emotional inteview, Bam Margera talked to E! Online about the death of his bff and said that it wasn't the first time Ryan had flirted with the reaper on that same stretch of road. Damn.
Bam said "He flipped me in a car eight times at the same exact spot in 1996. Thank God I had my seat belt on, because Chris Raab put one on me, but my brother didn't have one on. He flew 40 feet. Thank God he's alive. But like, Dunn was always a maniac at driving."
Later in the interview, Bam read a text, the last words he ever heard from his friend. "Stopping for a beer, be there when I can."
You know, I can't even snark on this shit. It's sad, it's wasteful, and it was so avoidable. Dude rolled his car eight fucking times and almost killed his friends in the same spot he was doing 140 mph in 15 years later. We all know some crazy ass who always seems to skirt the inevitable, but eventually shit's gonna go down. Just, damn.

anyway, such people really exist: people who don't drive after having even one drink. i never have. pinky swear. the grand majority of my friends or the people i hang with don't either.
maybe it really is a team thing. and the two teams -- drunky drivers and non-drunky drivers -- subconsciously shun each other. so team drunky driver believes the other team is a figment of a lying imagination (?) or maybe team drunky driver is too sloppy and wasted to detect us among their midst and vice-versa.
it's just the news doesn't report on the special unicorns that call a cab or get a ride from a sober so i can see how some don't believe we exist.

No kidding, glad you are okay and that your guardian angel wasn't taking a smoke break or something. My hubby totalled his work car two weeks ago, slammed into the concrete interstate barrier a couple of times. Last year, a motorcycle went through his back window at 120mph. Glad everyone is ok.

The DRIVER of a vehicle is responsible for the welfare of his/her passengers! (That's also why the driver gets fined if a passenger doesn't wear a seat belt and not the passenger)
There are no ifs or buts about it!
A person who is intoxicated and invites another to be his/her passenger pre-meditates the potential consequences for that person in his/her care at that moment. It is the drivers responsibility to say:"NO better not!"
The same as a drunk driver assumes the responsibility for anyone else on the road while driving drunk. This is a conscious decision.
I've had myself occasion where I told friends that I won't be able to give them a ride, because I didn't want the responsibility of passengers
i.e. not because I was drunk, but once because I had a bad tire/rim on my truck (it got damaged in winter hitting a pot hole) and I was afraid it would blow out on me on the way home. I didn't want the responsibility of passengers, so I told them to make other arrangements (of course I helped them to find another driver). I then drove my vehicle to the next garage in slow mo as if on egg shells.
I can't even imagine being a drunk driver and then on top of that tell a friend to hop in (or to let them hop in for that matter).
It's unconscionable!

but this past monday two of my friends got into a similar accident, only not in a porsche and no flames. drunk, hit a guardrail, flipped their car, and were ejected. no seatbelts.
it's easy to say shit when it's not a loved one. i still think anyone who drives drunk is an idiot and deserves jail time for the first offense...but no matter how fucking stupid they were to have done that, and i KNOW they knew better... i can't seperate that from my love for them...18 and 20 years old. i guess i'm trying to say i feel for bam now. he's probably angry as hell at ryan for being so stupid, but heartbroken at the same time. it's rough.

You know, this is yesterday's news. All further blogging about it just brings out the pc people. And they're right, but in their attemps to come clean with their own past they have a strong tendency to overdo.
He was a nice guy, he certainly didn't plan to die and to kill someone unlike other celebs who do their drugs and whatnot. Anything I read was that he's got a DUI 6 years ago, so give him a break. And no, I'm no fan of dunk driving, but it has been 3 am on a goddamn country road.

It's interesting how we can almost absolve a (minor) celebrity of being a repeating drunk-driving piece of shit. I had a friend killed by a drunk and so I don't really see this as a victimless crime. Maybe Ryan should have gone to prison previously, and he certainly should have lost his license. Meanwhile his passenger, who we never hear the name of in any story, is dead, and any number of people could have died that night. So while I'm not here to speak ill of the dead, this fucker should have been alone. That is the only problem I have with what happened. Sorry. You don't get a pass for being an asshole to this degree.
