Lindsay Lohan Is Not The New Carrie
Stephen King said last year that he thinks Lindsay Lohan is perfect for the title role in the movie version of one of his books and he wasn't talking about Cujo or Dolores Claiborne. Stephen was talking about the ten hundredth remake of Carrie. I'm assuming that Stephen King only said that shit because White Oprah threatened to douse him in a bucket of pig's blood (aka squat and queef over him) if he didn't. Thankfully, White Oprah didn't get to the movie's director Kimberly Pierce, because Kimberly has cast 15-year-old Chloe Moretz as Carrie instead of 55-year-old-in-the-face Lindsay Lohan.
Deadline says that MGM put out an offer to Chloe after Kimberly met with the likes of Dakota Fanning for the role. Kimberly met with Chloe last weekend and a quick minute later, a contract was dropped into her lap and she accepted that shit. Kimberly will now start searching for someone to play the Piper Laurie role. Rumor is that both Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore are being considered for Carrie's fun-hating crazy mom.
I've always had a special place in my dead heart for crazy ass Carrie. Brats made fun of Carrie for getting her period and brats made fun of me by saying it only a matter of time before I got my period. Brats threw maxi-pads at Carrie and brats threw tampons at me in the gym. (Yes, my sister regularly got free tampons, but the plastic on those things hurt!) Carrie burned those brats to the ground on prom night and I secretly wished those brats would get burned to the ground on prom night. I know Carrie and this Chloe girl is no Carrie. Homegirl is not busted enough to play Carrie. I wonder what kind of Hollywood wizardry they're going to do to her to "fugly" her up. Give her a pair of glasses, put her hair in a bun and then use my junior high school yearbook picture as inspiration for the rest of her look?! Actually, that will probably work.

The first book of King's I ever tried to get through was The Shining. I never read another one until my mother brought my then 3 year-old son into a bookstore to pick out a birthday present for me and he went right for the one with the evil clown on the cover, lol. So I read it. Maybe because of all the mama hormones still raging through my veins but I remember being very affected by the death of the younger brother in the first chapter. Anyway, I loved that book (until the ending). As some have said on this thread, King's characters and their interactions are very well done. He may not be the best 'grammatical' writer, but with "It" he was great at getting inside the minds of those kids, each one so different. He seems to have a very good understanding of kids and he made me want to be part of that group of friends. Also, I remember his description of the It turning into something scary when one of the kids was alone in a house and just feeling the fear freeze my brain. That sociopath kid who put the neighborhood dog into the refrigerator was spot-on, too, as was the thoughts going through the girl character's mind while hiding in the junk car when sociopath kid was giving the bad-kid villain a bj. Too bad the pure evil turned out to be nothing more than a spider (and the real "shocker" was that it was a FEMALE spider. Oh my!) because not only am I not afraid of spiders, I actually quite admire them. It's almost like King didn't know how to end this great story so he just picked the thing he felt the most people would have an irrational fear towards. And the philosopher turtle? Just no. King is no philosopher. However, after finishing that book I went ahead and read Pet Cemetery, which was a great read because even though it had to do with evil spirits there was a logic to it, and of course great characters, scariness, and heartbreaking sadness. It did not end on a silly note either. I thought Rose Madder was good until the end and then that's it for me and King.
I like Dakota but there is something self-conscious about her acting (or self- aware? Aware that she's acting? I can't put my finger on it but I have heard certain movie reviewers describe her as "weirdly poised"). Chloe Moretz was very good in "Let Me In" but other than that I have seen her only on talk shows where she seems to have loads of confidence (some might even say she appears rather full of herself) so I think she'll be okay making the transition from child to adult actress. All bets are off, however, when she hits 35 living and working in Tinseltown. Kubrick is a hack. I'll never forgive him for turning the book "A Clockwork Orange" into hand-job fun-time for misogynists.

So you know i'm team LiLo on this one.
In the spirit of i want everybody to drop dead who is remotely envolved in this crime of a Carrie remake i am opting for LiLo to play the lead.

I loved Carrie as a novel and the first adaption with Sissy Spacek, who was great in the role. Either Jodie Foster or Julianne Moore would work as the mother. They both are excellent actresses. I hope this movie makes Moretz a star, because the girl can act. I think Fanning would have worked as well, but let someone else have a shot.
Piper Laurie still could do that role!

Moretz is talented. I loved her since seeing her in an episode of the first season of My name is Earl (in which the great Missi Pyle played her mother), and she rocked in Kick-Ass. I haven't seen the remake of Let me in, I loved the original swedish movie too much.
Dakota Fanning... I'm sorry, I never liked her. When she was a child actor she ruined every movie, for me, because I kept wishing bad things for her smug irritating characters. Seriously. It made me feel bad because she was just a kid, but I found her so annoying.
I loved many King's book, and I agree with Hellraiser, the characterizations are always the best parts of his books. Probably he has now jumped the shark, but that doesn't erase the many books I've loved.

Silvio Berlusconi, just die already.
Carrie's been done to death I'm kind of looking forward to the Stand remake, if only because that book needs to be cable series or rated R. Doubt anyone will top Gary Sinise as Stu, though.

Don't know why they keep remaking stuff but I doubt today's audiences even know about the original or the book, so they won't care. The casting choices sound interesting, Chloe could be a good fit. And Sissy wasn't busted, she was so innocent-looking back then.
My goodness MK, those kids were pricks. You had me at flying tampons, burning bitches and your junior high picture! Too bad they didn't remake this sooner! HAHAHAH

In "It", agirl is correct. Beverly Marsh has sex with every single one of the boys. I remember being grossed out reading the book at 15 years old, and once again, re-reading it last year.

I agree about The Shining. With the exception of a couple of great scenes, it was boring as all fuck. Most people just latch onto it because it's a Kubrick movie. That being said, I hated the first 3/4rs of the novel too.

Eh, creative works are there to be appreciated; and appreciation, unfortunately, encompasses criticism. It's all down to taste. Just because you like something doesn't mean anyone who doesn't is talking out their ass.
Not sure what you're so fucking butt-hurt about, by the way.
Salem's Lot was my favourite King book when I was a teenager, but I tried to read it again recently and it is incredibly silly. I rolled my eyes or laughed with every page I turned, until I couldn't take any more. Not to mention that he unforgivably recreated scenes from Dracula and threw in his own shitty characters instead. Very original. He has a great scope of imagination, yes, and longevity because people like "fast food literature"; but he is NOT grammatically skilled.
I adore Chloe Moretz and hope Hollyweird doesn't destroy her, as she gets older.
That being said, there is no need for a third Carrie movie.

My favorite part of the original Carrie was how the lady gym teacher smacked the living shit out of the main blonde bitch girl! Hilarious. Teachers today can't even tell a smart ass student to "Stop that!" without a lawsuit from the parents!
And then, the same girl get smacked in the face by John Travolta after his friend throws him a beer from a moving car! He has beer foam all over his damn face, while driving and smacking his bitch around. How can you remake that beautiful shit?
My favorite Chloe Moretz movie was Wicked Little Things and she was cute in the Amityville Horror remake too.

The movie "IT" wasn't bad until the end when it was just a big hairy giant spider...not really scary IMO. The clown wif teefs was the real nightmare!
______________________________________________
Thank you! I read that book and thought it was pretty good until the ending absolutely ruined it. I was pissed off and I didn't read any more Stephen King for a long time. I like 'Salem's Lot best of all the books I've read by him and the movie of that was pretty good, too. I think it was a 4 hour tv movie with David Soul from Starsky and Hutch. When the kid vampire comes to his friends room and he's floating outside that was great.
Anyway, like I said in the wrong thread, I don't know how they can top Sissy Spacek's version, but we'll see.

If Julianne Moore is the crazy mom, I'd probably watch it then.

OMG I HATED "It." I could not get through it to save my life. But I do love all his older stuff, and 11/22/63 was great. "Dolan's Cadillac" is another favorite of mine - Christian Slater played Dolan in the movie and it wasn't bad.
I remember the first time I read "The Shining," I couldn't put it down and by the time I decided to pack it in and go to bed, I was so creeped out I couldn't sleep. Luckily my dad was a huge reader too AND he let me skip school the next day so I could sleep in.
In my late teens, there was a brutal murder in the city that I live outside of ... the killers wrote "REDRUM" on the victim's wall. You could see it through the window when you drove by. CREEPY.

I just love it when folks who can't even spell correctly feel qualified to judge one of the most talented and famous writers in the world. Even Stephen King will tell you he's like the "McDonalds" of the writing world. You may not like his casual,"fast-food" style, but his talent and sheer longevity are undeniable. And his characterizations are the best part of his writing IMO.
I have to wonder what the critics have ever done that makes them feel free to judge SK so harshly. The only movie that ever came close to being as good as a Stephen King novel was Kubrick's "The Shining." His stuff is just THAT good, if you have an imagination that is.
No matter how many times they remake this movie, it will never be as good as the original. If they HAVE to do it again, my nomination for Carrie's mom would have to be the one and only chicken cutlets, Phoebe Price.

Chloe Moretz is such a great actress and is so underrated. I wish she was offered more roles. She's awesome and cute as a button to boot!
Have you all seen this girl on 30 Rock? She is very talented, holds her own against Alec Baldwin.
Are we sure Stephen King wasn't thinking Lindsay would be perfect as the crazy mom? She could act the shit out of that role.

agirl, yeah, Beverly has sex with them all both times but in the book it's not at all sordid. When it happened as a child, she kept picturing the grackles on the telephone wires under a grey sky and that's how they wished their way out.
