I usually only lurk here but felt compelled to comment after reading of your back issues and treatment considerations. If the clinic to which you're referring is the Texas Spine & Joint Hospital in Tyler, TX, then I HIGHLY recommend them! I use Dr. Michaels but the doctor who was recently featured on the news (the founder of TSJH, I believe) is one of the best in the practice. The 150 mile drive will be worth your while- no question. :)

DownUnderGirl, is it possible for you to talk to your friend and strongly suggest that she/he talk to a professional therapist? If money isn't an issue, I think that talk therapy would be a good start. I agree that nutrition, sleep, etc. can contribute to depression. I just think that talking to a professional is the best first step. Good luck to you and your friend.

I am not sure i'd like that being done to me. I believe in a right to privacy but the situation is really bad.
I've told the person i'm worried about them and contacting them regularly.
Not sure i could get them to disclose all the things that are going on to a doctor. Dr Cost not an issue here.
This is such a hard one, DUG...
I've dealt with people who have severe emotional problems BECAUSE of certain family members, so, you might be taking a risk trying to get help for your friend with someone who was (yikes) their ABUSER. I don't know. I wish I could help more.

My friends behavior has changed so much, they are not leaving house, gone from very clean to messy. Not sleeping or eating properly.
Environmental factors are making worse.
Person has support from a couple of us friends but i don't think its enough. I think only a couple people know how bad it is.
Really worried that physically the person will crash.
I have suggested the person needs to eat sleep properly and take their b vitamins.
I don't want to betray the person but wondering if need outside help

Ok, so this doctor is in phase 3 trials with the FDA to use bionics (I think that is the correct term) to help repair discs. To simplify the explanation, he pumps the disc full of a material that helps to heal the bulge (herniation). Natural clotting materials in the body can then take over and repair the tear fully and the disc is able to plump back up. Kinda like adding fix a flat to a tire! Anyhoo, my fusion helped but I still have problems and chronic pain. Before I undergo more surgery for the remaining discs, I think I will try this method. The doc is about 150 miles from me and hey, I don't think it can hurt anything. They can always go back and do a traditional fusion later.
I hope you eat really really good in HK. It sounds like a blast!

Hey SDR. thanks for thinking about me! You too know the joys of fusion, eh? I must say that my fusion helped me enormously. I had 3 surgeries in a year and a half. Before that last one, there were times I couldn't walk. I couldn't lay on my back, ride a bike, or sit for any length of time.

Full spectrum vitamin Bs and vitamin d (preferably liquid).
Also, plenty of sunlight with NO sunscreen after 3pm which is safe and loads you with mega vitamin D which is the happiness vitamin.
I'm so sorry your friend is struggling health-wise. It's scary and awful to watch someone you love suffer.

Advice please.
I have an awesome friend who is really medically unwell at the mo.
I think they may be suffering psychosis/depression and i am not sure what to do. I don't say psychosis lightly.
I think a combo of illness, lack of nutrition, sleep, stress and other factors are causing it. Like its a side effect.
I'm worried the person will lose job, partner etc.
Whats the best thing to do to help?
This person is really worth it and i have to say i'd probably be in a similar state if i had to deal with everything this person has to deal with at the mo.
Anyone out there with any experience dealing with this sort of thing?
It kills me to see such a genuine good person in such pain.
