Open Post: Hosted By Obie The Obese Dachshund

Nora Vanatta, a certified vet tech from Portland, OR, volunteered for the position of Jillian Michaels to the dogs when she took in a 70 pound, 5-year-old dachshund  who looks like he swallowed two bags of oranges. Obie the Obese Dachshund was brought into the Oregon Dachshund Rescue after his elderly owners had their own health issues to deal with and could no longer take care of him. Obie ballooned to the size of one Nicki Minaj’s thighs, because his former owners couldn’t resist his big brown eyes and gave him scraps whenever he wanted them. And that’s how your pet gets fat.

The average weight of a Doxie is half of what Obie weighs now, so Nora is working hard to trim over 40 pounds of chunk off his body. Nora tells Oregon Live (via HuffPo) that she put Obie on a special high-protein diet and has put him on a regular hydrotherapy regime. Obie is too fat to go for walks right now, but Nora hopes to put his triple stuffed sausage body on a treadmill as soon as he loses more weight. Obie the Hutt’s weight-loss program is pretty costly, so Nora has set up a Facebook and PayPal page for donations.

Screw, Jessica Simpson! Weight Watchers should pay Obie $4 million to lose weight, because this is a weight-loss story we all REALLY care about.

And I can’t believe I got through that without making one fat wiener joke.
