RuPaul's Drag Race Contestant Sahara Davenport Has Passed Away

Several queens from RuPaul's Drag Race and judge Michelle Visage all confirmed in several tweets of sadness that season 2 contestant Sahara Davenport (born name: Antoine Ashley) is now up in heaven, covering the eyes of the angels with glitter. Some reports say that Sahara was 27 and some reports say Sahara was 28, and I'm saying that she was too young to be sharing an Absolut cocktail with Jesus in the Interior Illusions lounge in heaven.

Queerty says that Antoine Ashley was born, raised and schooled in Texas. Antoine got his BA in dance from Southern Methodist University before moving to NYC where he worked as an actor, dancer and singer. There's no details as to how or when Sahara passed away. Sahara's partner and fellow Drag Racer, Manila Luzon, only wrote: "I love him" on Facebook on Sunday night. And RuPaul tweeted her condolences this morning:

Rest in peace, Sahara Davenport.

I apologize that this is not really the right place because I am not infering anything about Sahara specifially, but I'm not crazy about the Absolut cocktail sponsorship of the Drag Race. This is really sad. Does anyone know why Sahara passed away (the cause of death)?

Just saw the most interesting documentary on the National Geographic Channel. Anyone seen that show "Taboo"? They were discussing gender reassignment.

My heart went out to all the individuals that spoke on the program. They discussed gender reassignment surgery: the crushing cost, the emotional toll, and the familial problems it caused. They ARE happy now, and are living the way they felt they need to live. Some doctors actually propose that it could be a hormone imbalance in the womb. In any case, I was so happy to see them happy.

Life is such a short trip, such a quick ride on the existence rollercoaster. I say people should do WHATEVER makes them happy - as long as it is not illegal or harmful to themselves.

Just yesterday I heard some thing on NPR about how healthcare in Argentina covers gender reassignment surgery. There was a woman interviewed who works with trans people and said that their life expectancy is cruelly short. About 30 years. I had to stop listening and didn't hear why, but was left wondering all day. I suppose violence against them and/or drug use might be why.

Anyways, that is WAY too young. Tragic. RIP.
