Chevy Chase Is Sick Of Playing A Bigot, Drops The N-Word To Try To Prove His Point
I don't even want to know if that's a semi-automatic butt baton in Chevy Chase's hand. But judging by that outfit he's wearing....
Everybody on the set of Community was sent home early yesterday after Chevy Chase threw another one of his signature rants. Even though Chevy's arch rival Dan Harmon was put on the curb a long time ago, Clark Griswold is still not happy about the way things are going on Community. TVLine says that while shooting a scene with his cast mates including Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown, Chevy nearly blew his nipples off while screaming about how his character has gone from bigot to BIGOT with a capital everything. Chevy didn't like some of the words on the page and dropped the n-word from his tongue during his rant. Deadline has a few more details about this mess:
After getting fed more lines he found offensive during a scene yesterday, I hear he snapped and launched the tirade, airing his frustration and suggesting that the way things with Pierce are going, he may next be asked to call Troy (Glover) or Shirley (Brown) the N-Word. I hear the outburst upset the cast. Chase later apologized. The racial content of his tirade does appear out of character for Chase, who once marched in the civil rights movement, but the blowup itself is not. Chase is known for having a short fuse and storming off the set of Community in the middle of a scene if he is not happy with the script.
Meanwhile, the writers and producers of Community made a mental note to themselves: "If we really want to get rid of Chevy Chase by making him explode out of the ceiling of the studio, make his character say the n-word while wearing an 'I Heart Dan Harmon' crop top tank."

Chevy felt passionately about the direction they were taking his character and he used the N word as an exclamation point to show his DISGUST! Good for him! The other actors are grown ups and aren't going to bust into flames simply hearing a guy use the N word.

Bigots don't change over night, so if he thinks his character should have some sort of epiphamy and suddenly see the light, that's not changing it for the better.

Maybe the guys in charge should listen to Chevy's ideas once in a while because this show is not funny. I have tried watching it numerous times because Entertainment Weekly treats it like the second coming of Christ. Each time the laughs are far and few. I sometimes wonder if Chevy's tantrums aren't a publicity stunt to keep the media talking about the show.

Six years ago, I was working for a hospitality temp agency part-time. All State Insurance was celebrating it's 70 year anniversary over a few days in Chicago. One day, they took over Millenium Park for the day and evening. After dinner, Elton John performed solo.
The MC for this event was none other than Chevy Chase. It was pathetic how they ran scenes from "Fletch" and the "Vacation" movies on the screen behind him, so that people would know who he was.
He's lucky to have a gig at all - and especially one on such a good show. He probably hates Joel McHale because he's a young, handsome, funny leading man, which Chase will never be again.

I don't understand why NBC has such little love for Community. And Chase has always been asshole.
Community started out as a really great, subtly subversive sitcom which the compulsive Dan Harmon turned into a wank-fest. It has a tiny audience of screamy rabid fans, but has always had atrocious ratings. That's why NBC has no love for it.
And as someone down there said, one can be an asshole but not necessarily a racist asshole. Chase was trying to make a point but probably not in the most prudent way possible. He also didn't do it in public, so I wonder how this tidbit got out?

Having a hard time understanding why I should be mad at the guy for this.
