No Doubt Bans Their Own Video
No Doubt killed their own video yesterday for "Looking Hot" after many, many people yelled at them for playing "Cowboys & Indians" in it. The video, which shows Gwen Stefani as some kind of white-haired Native American princess who gets tied up by cowboys and does sexy moves in a teepee, was alive on YouTube and Vimeo for just 24 hours before it was yanked down. After No Doubt pulled the video down, they threw an apology up on their website (via HuffPo) where they said they consulted many Native American experts (aka smoked peyote while watching a Bugs Bunny cartoon).
As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history. Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people. This is of great concern to us and we are removing the video immediately. The music that inspired us when we started the band, and the community of friends, family, and fans that surrounds us was built upon respect, unity and inclusiveness. We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video. Being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are.
- No Doubt
I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that the Native American studies expert they consulted was Cuntess LuMann:

How comes that people who were cool when they started get plastic and cheesy when they're getting old? "Don't say" was basically just the band and the video was cool - fortunately that's the only album I've got from them.
Btw: I'm not so sure she's still married - there haven't been any pictures of she and Gavin in ages. (<-- is that "she" really correct? I found that recently and it still sounds so wrong ;))
Obviously it wasn't very realistic. No burnt out drunks or casinos.

Shiitake happens...
Ichh, she looks like that kid in "The Bad Seed". Blonde pony tails are evil.
was this offensive because there were no casinos?
As a child of the 80s i have seen more than my fair share of bad cheesy videos. This takes the cake. It's not just Native Americans who should be offended either--as a woman I found the lyrics incredibly offensive when put along with what looks like rape scenes. Even my Samsung Galaxy Tab got pissed--when the video got to the 2:23 mark my Tab said "The hell with this" and shut its own bad self down. It took me two tries to get the browser back up and running, and then it was running away screaming, lol.
"we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California"
OH BULLSHIT
And IIRC Gwen Stefani was criticized for wearing a bindi (dot on forehead) years ago... I think maybe offending people known as "Indians" is part of her shtick.
Gwen Stefani is an idiot. She's forty something with 2 kids and still going thru an identity crisis. She can't decide whether she's Marylin Monroe, Japanese, Native American, or a fucking Martian. Give it a rest, moron. You're a white woman with an average talent and hot husband. You're rich and skinny. Enjoy what you got.

I find it mocking, insulting and degrading to the Indian culture.

It's "Native American" not "Indian"....I'm not gonna point out the irony.

The song was offensively bad, the misuse of bondage was offensive (oh how edgy, she's tied up and coming on to the "bad guys" *rolls eyes*) and basically what everyone else has said.
Was that an M for Marilyn necklace in the teepee?
Remember back in the day when we used to be thick skinned and were able to let shit like this go by the wayside? Now we are a country of pansy assed people who cry over the most innocent of things. GROW THE HELL UP!
Go Verb Yourself!
So it's totally cool to pretend you're a Japanese girl, but not an Indian girl.

I can't speak for every native american, however, as someone of Native American ancestry, I have to say, I don't give a sweet shit.

I find it mocking, insulting and degrading to the "American" Indian culture.
Imagine doing this video using African Americans during the 1800's.
And I laugh seeing people on horseback that cannot ride acting like they were born in the saddle.

squirrels to the nuts!
I can't speak for every native american, however, as someone of Native American ancestry, I have to say, I don't give a sweet shit. As a matter of fact,"we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California..." is more offensive than the video probably was. Really? It also pisses me when "Native Americans" make a stink over shit like this. To me it just looks like they want to be offended for the sake of being offended. It has nothing to do with the so-called integrity of their heritage, but just to further their own attention seeking and agenda, which is why I don't participate in organized shit like that. It's so fake and attention based, there is no fucking sense of pride.
I've literally had strangers walk up to me as I'm waiting for the bus or in other public places, and straight up ask, " are you Native American?" Now THAT is fucking RUDE. Why would you ask a stranger their nationality like it matters? We're all people.

How come Native Americans are upset whenever a white person throws on a head dress until it's a showgirl in a Harrah's Casino on the Reservation?
The slightly gang rapey scenes in the bar and next to the jail are wayyyyy creepy.

Kinda silly of them to make this video. A whole culture is not there for Gwen to play dress up. Good for them taking it down. However Gwen has a history of appropiation with Jamaican, Japanese, Rastafarian and Chicano cultures

^^this, right there.
Stefani is the ultimate culture vulture.
She probably celebrates Columbus Day, 'cause Columbus was Italian.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
God don't like ugly.
She should just parcel out her own $$$ among her bandmates instead of subjecting us to this schlock-fest for dollars.
*chanting as always*
Shut the fuck up kid, you're in my closet now.
Golden rule No 1: Don;t be an asshole.
Comedienne Franchesca Ramsey does a goodvideo blog about this:

I mean, when you are sitting around coming up with ideas for your video, and you get "Native American girl in sexy bondage", everyone should look at each other, say "naaaaah", and move on.

God don't like ugly.
Hear it in your nearest elevator, Safeway or while waiting on hold.

No lie, when I was little I thought that being Native American was a career choice. I wanted to be an Indian when I grew up. I was always collecting feathers to wear on my head. I'd make bow and arrows from sticks and pretend I was a young warrior.
Now when I'm working outside with the earth, among the trees, plants and animals, I feel like I kind of got my wish. ;)

who could watch it? You'd have to listen to that hideous song.
The song and video suck and both should be banned. I'm beginning to hate Gwen Stefani's voice, she has no range at all, musically or figuratively.
I liked LuAnn for this clip. She's a quater native american herself. She admitted later that she only did it to tick that buck mouthed psuedo hippie off.
And there is nothing wrong with Indian since native americans themselves often refer to themselves as Indian. I have a full blooded native american friend who only ever refers to herself as indian, as well as her kids. Whether it's right or wrong (technically, whatever), it's a common term used. The American Indian Movement seems to have no problem with the term, nor do the museums and other native rights' groups.

That video was too lame to be offended by. Who are they kidding?
Oh and the Cuntess was actually the voice of reason. How does THAT happen?
*chanting as always*
Shut the fuck up kid, you're in my closet now.
This is offensive to people with ears
But,
I don't see why it's offensive to native 'mericans, I didn't see no slot machines.

Shut the fuck up kid, you're in my closet now.
Wait....so they just banned it and couldn't find any way to re-cut it?
Frankly, what I would find most offensive is Gwen Stefani tied up & the fight at the end. But other than that? It could just as easily just be a play on the whole Cowboy n' Indian GENRE.
This makes me think of Seinfeld.
"It makes me what?? An INDIAN GIVER???"
Gwen Stefani go wipe your ass. You are ugly inside and out.
dumb lyrics.

That video is guilty of being silly.
This is how it's done, Gwen.

Yeah, the song sucked, and I could not in any way connect it to the video, which also sucked.
Terrible video, terrible song
