@HockeyFan - if your dog will not tolerate being crated, you can get what's called an X-pen and set him up in it. It's larger than a crate and more open, but still keeps the dog contained. Many people use them when their dogs won't tolerate a crate. You don't want to start crate training after a surgery like this. You can also keep the dog in a room by himself when you're not home, provided there is nothing he can slip on or get into. Good luck.

@HockeyFan - I've been through the TPLO surgery twice with my mastiff. Pure torture, mostly for me I think. There is a group on Yahoo Groups called Orthodogs that you should consider joining. The people on there have experience with this sort of thing and will be there for you if you have any questions or concerns, even about little things that you're not sure if you should call your vet. I highly recommend you join that group.

You both will get through this, although it seems like it will never end when you bring them home and you have to practically hover over them for a few weeks.

Urania is getting better and better and I'm so relieved. I love her. Found her a couple of years ago when she was just 3 weeks old, wandering on the streets. Just like a year later I found the other one. All the pets I've ever had were cats and dogs I found that way.

She has to take a lot, a whole lot of medicines, and I don't know if she will see again with her left eye. The right one is fine, the left got all the veins popped out because of the exploding hypertension caused by the poison. She has to take vitamins to help her blood coagulations, her platelets count is so low (and that's the very first thing that happens with rat poison). And of course she's very weak. But she spent most of this last night sleeping on my lap, you just know how grateful your pets are when they look at you, isn't it? She's hanging there and I'm sure she'll make a full recovery, she's very strong willed, I know it.
Unfortunately I have no way to be sure of who did it, so I can only try to protect them as much as I can. Luckily, the youger one is too scared to try to go past our garden, so she is mostly safe.

I'm always sorry when I have to read some of your puppies are not doing well. You're all in my thoughts, hang in there ♥

Sorry to hear about your puppy! I hope he/she gets better soon. My ex-friend's dog tore her ACL. It was a tough recovery, but the dog is doing well!

I took my two kitties into the vet this past weekend. The vet is a friend of ours, and she told me that one of the kitties had tapeworms! Can you believe it! Her flea issue was so uncontrolled at the shelter that she literally developed this issue. The neglect is so frustrating. I wish that the shelter had more staff and resources to take better care of the animals!

I also asked my vet friend about having my one cat spayed at the shelter. She told me it might be better to have my cat spayed at her facility, if I could "afford her". WOW! The arrogance wafting off her was just ten times ridiculous. Granted, she is much more money than the shelter. However, her attitude just sucked.

Actually they're not too bad here. We lived in a place while we were building and holy hell they were bad. I remember having a dream where my left side was on fire. Woke up and a scorpion decided to cuddle with me in bed. He (it's always a he) got me on the thigh and on the side boob. I cut his tail off before I squished him.

Mr. Spot got it the worst. He was bleary eyed and groggy when he got in the shower and got stung in the meat between his big toe and the next pig. Woke him up real fast!

Hockey Fan - One of my dogs has had knee surgery on each hind leg. 1st surgery was when she was 5. 2nd surgery was this year at age 9. Recovery took 4-6 weeks to bear full weight on the leg. She was fine both times and your puppy will be also. ♥♥♥
It did cost a bunch though. Damn dog! But I love her overbred ass. ;-)

I'm a long time lurker and first time poster--I'm not another incarnation of a troll. I promise.

I'm hoping everyone's kittehs are doing better. There seems to have been a rash of kitty problems lately. I have 2 rescues who are a year old. They were all but feral when I got them about 5 months ago. I've worn down their defenses until tonight when one of them tried to eat something on the carpet and got carpet stuck in his mouth. I tried to pick him up to help him and he freaked out. All those months of plying him with cat treats went out the window. He's sitting near me and giving me a look that's saying "I thought I could trust you but you are just like the others." (He did get the carpet out and he went and ate his wet food so I assume he'll be okay digestion-wise.)

I can't give blood either because of possible exposure to mad cow disease during my college junior year abroad in the UK.

People could also had poisoned rats in the building, I did it once I was so fed up witha nasty apt so I went away for a weekend and rat poison everywhere plus glue traps, fuck I'm an animal lover and pro humane everything but one weekend on the glue traps we caught 32 some 2 per glue traps, and all the rat poison was gone all the pellets and my neighbors were nasty ass people ( obviously ) and i am 100% against poison in buildings because of pets but that time I said fuck it. I hope no pets were hurt but my neighbors were nasty and they didn't seem to have pets just naked toddlers who hopely didn't eat dead mice. Sorry for the rant

Not unusual at all, unfortch. And it's very common for them to have one repaired and then blowing the other one. He's a Puggle (half pug, half Beagle). Luckily he's small-- for big dogs they actually have to put a metal implant in and it costs about $2500.
