Boy, you ask serious questions sometimes. Me too but I get in trouble. It's my writing:(
I think it's human nature for all people to want to identify with someone whether it be race, age, sex. Simplistic for sure.
Maybe some white people get hurt that they don't seem to get credit when someone that is bi-racial is so successful.
Speaking of which. Pushy's kid is 3/4 white and 1/4 asian but on census she's white.
What do you think Haley Barry's daughter would be considered. I don't know if they take census in Canada. I'm not a big fan of it. Puts us all in boxes. and you know what else--all this race stuff just feels like it's getting worse and it makes me sad. If you get a chance, go see Lincoln

I've noticed when a person is of mixed colour, successful and calls himself black there always seems to be a certain part of the population that wants make sure the world knows he's white as well and will debate that quite strongly
Why is that?
I've rarely if ever hear people argue how white some half black person is if there are negative connotations to the story. No one seems to argue at how white a bi-racial killer or a thief is, THEY seem to be comfortably black.
Why is that?

If you are describing Obama for what ever reason, you would say the half white guy, you'd say the light skin black guy. We say this because we know that Obama has a white mother, but if you didn't it wouldn't matter, he'd be a regular black guy.
SOMEONE having a white mother or father calling themselves black doesn't change the fact that they have white lineage, they are just adhering to a community of people that are like them.... That is human nature.

I hate the idea that "Obama counts as black". He's half black, half white. Why people say he's our first black president is beyond me. He is our first mixed race/biracial president (officially at least, I'm sure many of the others had some mixture in their lineage). For goodness sakes, he grew up exclusively with the white side of his family and he's not some random guy on the street that we size up on the general color of his skin, we all know his background.

And say what you will about his acting ("Amadeus" is one of my favorite movies), Tom got the last laugh b/c he won a Tony for producing "Spring Awakening" on B'way. You're right about his appearance, though - just Googled a recent pic and YIKES! Tom and Bruce Vilanch rule the bear kingdom now.
