Oh, and I heard the Neville interview on NPR, as well. His voice is ridiculous - just perfect.

Sarah Smile

Love Neil Diamond, but if we're going back to the seventies/extremely early eighties, I'm going with Barry Manilow.

"September Morn" gives me the saddest little feeling. It must remind me of something depressing from that time in my (very young) life. There were some depressing-ass songs on the radio then and I loved them all. Where are the depressing songs now?

Sarah Smile

Neil Diamond is an absolute prick. He has a seriously inflated sense of his own fame and importance that doesn't translate into the real world. Came across him in the late 80s and he was such an egotistical dickweed, assuming that everyone near him was a maniacal fan who wanted to jump him for whatever reason. I was like 12 years old and had no idea who he was. If you can believe it- he actually didn't believe that a couple of little kids had no idea who he was. He actually had his security team (an enormous team for such a has-been) escort us away from him.

Damn, Rudy Huxtable is 34???? Fuck I feel old.

I'm the odd one out here cuz I can't stand Neil Diamond. He makes me think of all the gross cheesiness of the 70's: shag carpet, wood paneling, polyester, fugly hair, macrame owl wall-hangings, landscape art prints featuring grassy meadows, animal-print upholstery, interiors decorated with the limited palette of poop brown/burnt orange/pea green, station wagons, enormous square tinted glasses...*shudder*

ahahahaha!! I shouldn't laugh really because I have incriminating evidence of 70's hair - I was at my mom's the other day looking thru old pics and found my junior high pic ....oh hello there Marcia Brady. LOL

My parents loved Bobby and that Watching Scotty Grow song. They also loved Engelbert Humpercock if that's any indication of their musical taste.

Forever In Blue Jeans is one of my favorite Neil Diamond songs :)

And I like Neil Diamond, but every time I ride in the car with my Mom (like yesterday even) she has on this station that plays the sappiest songs of the 60s and 70s

I'd rather hear idiosyncratic (I is smarted, lols) voices than these technical singers with their stretching out vowels like it shows folks they can really sing. It's bullshit.

Isn't that the truth! Big eye roll for me this BS

Whamo, your Mom. LOL

Before my eyes focused, I thought it said Mary Lou Retard.

Help me.

Of course she still sings along and of course I want to throw myself out of the moving car.

Hey pushy,

That vibrato has always been his signature but you can imagine it sounded tighter, more fluid when he was younger. Still not bad, a shame it's out of date.

Talk with y'all later. :)

BamBam, LOL, I know how to find it:) Very lazy and I am trying to type with my left hand as my right index finger/wrist is bothering me.
The one I saw was 2008 I think. Lots of vibrato
but very good.

Here Bammy..

I remember Jim Croce's Operator.. tearjerker supreme. And to think there was no Prozac back then.. how the fuck did we cope? ;)

SFRBully's picture

I'd do Andy Bernard, not Ed Helms.

Okay Ed Helms, too.

Okay the entire OFFICE cast all up in here.

ESPECIALLY KEVIN. I AM NOT EVEN KIDDING.

@ Ophelia,

I don't recall that one. There were so many depressing songs back then it's a wonder we didn't do ourselves in, lols.

Remember Operator or Honey? Lord, somebody pass me a bottle!

ETA: Hahahaha pushy! It shouldn't be hard to find although I don't know if he recorded it when he was at the top of his game. Still good though.

my mother'd do the same trip when eric carmen's "allll byyyy myyyy self" and "one is the lonliest number" came on.
-------------------------------------------------

don't forget "Alone again, naturally"... boy there was some depressed dudes in the 70's

------------------------------------------------

Hahaha, thank god my mom wasn't into music so much, she was depressed enough as it is. But the song that comes to mind for me is "Wildfire".

I loved that song
Remember "Shannon"? about a drownded doggie or some such shit. We had to have our beagle put down right around the time that song reached popularity. *cries*

Man, talk about a tearjerker, "She ran calling Wiiiildfire, she ran calling Wiiiildfire, she ran calling Wiii iii iiildfire". I wasn't even a teenager yet and I was having mood swings everytime I heard that damn song. Loved it.

HB Nasstassja Kinski, you hot hot woman. I searched out any movie she was in, I thought she was perfect.

HB Jools Holland, wasn't a big Squeeze fan but he hosted Sunday Night with David Sanborn. They would bring together different musicians from all genres and have jam sessions, a great show. You can find clips on youtube.

HB Neil Diamond, knew nothing about him until I bounced at a college bar populated with drunk kids from New York and New Jersey. Damn they loved that guy.

HB Aaron Neville, "Tell it like it is". Nobody could sing Ave Maria better than him in his prime.

Neil Diamond.....gotta love Neil, Money talks but it don't sing and dance and it don't walk

Jools Holland....I loved his work with Squeeze, Cool for Cats, Another Nail in my Heart, Tempted, great pop! I'm with que cochina the man is a super talented musician and his show showcases some great acts, watch RadioHead's 1997 version of Paranoid Android, it's worth the guitar solo alone.

Happy Bday Sluts.

I remember as a little kid in a car pool that song "You Don't Bring Me Flowers Anymore" coming on and the meemaw driving shouting "This is reality!! That's the way it is kids!" and just keeping my mouth shut as she sang along.

OMG, that is sooo funny! Hey granny - bitter much?!

Happy B-Day Neil Diamond!!

A musical legend for sure but ba-buttons has agreat story.

Some friends were vacationing down in Cali one year and met a neighbour named 'Neil' who lived with his father next door.

'Neil' was super nice and down-to-earth, opening his pool to my friends and having them over for bbq's etc. It was only after my friends came home and showed their vaca pics that their friends pointed out that goofy neighbour 'Neil' was actually Neil Diamond.

Happy B-Day Mary Lou Retton!! Sure, with the boycott the 1984 Olympics was kind of joke but I totally remember her and her spunky, chunky gymnastics.

Happy B-Day Nastassja Kinski!! That famous Richard Avedon photo of you with the snake caused amongst the first rumblings in ba-buttons' manly loins.

HB to Neil Diamond: I find myself singing his greatest hits all the time!: "Turn on your heart light..." "September morn... We danced until the night became a brand new day" "they're coming' to AMERICA!"

And to Aaron Neville who has been on NPR talking about his new album and still has a sweet voice like an angel and wouldn't think of lip synching, I'm sure.

And Daniel Auteuil and the gorgeous Nastassja Kinski. How I wanted to look like her!

And Ed Helms because he's funny.

Love me some Neil Diamond!

I wonder what Bill is getting Gennifer Flowers for her birthday.
