Oh, So This Is Why Beyonce And Oprah Weren't At The State Of The Union Address Last Night
When President Obama strutted down the aisle at the State of the Union Address last night, I was wondering why his main back-up dancers, Beyonce and Oprah, weren't sashaying behind him. But now I know why. The Empresses of the United States had something more important to do. They had to sashay down the red carpet at the premiere of Beyonce's HBO Beyoncementary Life Is Butter Dreams in NYC.
I don't know which one isn't worthy enough to be in the presence of the other one? If the Queen of the World, Beyonce, is standing next to the other Queen of the World, Oprah, which one is the true reigning Queen of the World in that picture? If a diamond is shining bright like a star next to a star shining bright like a diamond, which one is shining brighter? If a 9 inch dick is lying next to another 9 inch dick in front of me, which one do I lick first? These are the questions I ask myself whenever I see Phoebe Price and Shauna Sand in the same picture. These are the questions that keep me up at night.
As Jay-Z, a face-snatched Tina Knowles and a pant-less Basement Baby (I think her wig ate her pants) got on their knees and prayed, Beyonce and Oprah created an infinite holy light by posing together for the paps at the Life Is Buttocks Cream premiere. If I look hard enough, I think I see hairs sticking out of Beyonce's pits, but there's no way those hairs grew out of her body. Beyonce is as naturally smooth as Gayle King's freshly waxed taint (it's just how O likes it). Beyonce is obviously wearing a lace front armpit wig. Yeah, I'm sure Beyonce stole that idea from a picture she saw on somebody's Pinterest page, but when lace front armpit wigs become the must-have accessory of 2013, we'll all have Beyonce to thank for it.

If by family you mean "ancestors" like the supposed "Acadian" leader(because it's ALWAYS leader) that could have been anywhere from North America to parts of Quebec. There is a parish in Louisiana called Acadiana. That's different though. Even if she did have relatives that lived in Louisiana that's not really relevant to her. First off, if Beyonce wants to lighten her skin, that's her choice. I may not like it, but that's her choice,a nd she has to live with it. Nobody calls people who tan liars. Secondly, my point about black/Creole/Native culture was because the implication is that if someone predominately African features, then they have no other racial identity, and even if they do, it's so far back it doesn't count. Also, I don't have to research what Creole is. My father's family is Creole from New Orleans and St. Landry, so I am quite familiar with the term, it's history and it's culture. My mother's family s from the Cane River area and was raised by a Creole great uncle, so yeah, I do know a teensy bit about Creoles without having to do research. Still doesn't mean that Bey can't mention her heritage. She's been talking about it since she hit the scene--nothing new to report.
I realize Beyonce's background makes her like most black people. I have mentioned that a few times on other posts. I even made a reference to it here. Lastly, who gives a shit about Beyonce, her mama, how she wears her hair, what she colors her skin with, etc? All of that is superficial. I'm sorry you've experienced that. I've experienced the opposite where I've been told I'm pretty for a black girl or I would be really pretty if I were light skinned (this by both blacks and whites). I never said that beyonce didn't have a creole ancestor. I also never claimed that creoles didn't have French & Native American heritage, so it's ridiculous that you wrote a post responding to me as if I had said those things.

Beyonce does. Which is why her personal aesthetic choices are not exactly the same as someone just deciding to wear contacts, dye their hair, or whatever. Beyonce could just do what she does, and let that be it, but she needs to justify herself with "creole", the same way she needs to lie about things that don't matter (or wouldn't if she didn't lie about them). She's a bullshit artist.

Has it never occurred to you that beyonce is one of those people who make "creole" about skin color rather than culture? Or that she's playing on the ignorance of such individuals? Beyonce's skin has lightened over the years (through makeup or other means). She exclusively wears blonde wigs, has narrowed her nose to a point, and started wearing hazel contacts. She says she's creole. But beyonce admittedly speaks no French or Patois, and knows nothing about Creole culture (She only ever mentions that her mother makes gumbo, and that she had a Creole ancestor on her mother's side of the family.)
It's not about heritage, it's about justification. Being "creole" implies French and/or Native American ancestry, as you say (I never denied this. But it's cute you looked up "creole" for this discussion). These need not be specifically noted, unless you want justification for skin lightening, blonde wigs, nose jobs, and contacts (that's why I brought up her throwing "French" and "Native American" out there).
And for the record, beyonce's eyes aren't hazel just because Trya Banks' might be. Beyonce had brown eyes until relatively recently. Also, beyonce's natural hair color isn't blonde, it's dark brown.

Foxxy - did Tina actually renounce her citizenship? I knew she had narrowed her dating material down to European men because they were more "romantic", and before that she had narrowed her dating down to white men.
Interesting fact: I read her book and she says she never experienced any racism in the extremely small southern (gasp) town she was born and raised in. I've heard the same thing from several prominent black artists and such, too. Many of them have also said they only became aware of being treated differently when they moved up to the "liberal" north or moved to big cities like Chicago (ghettos: the end result of liberal utopian dreams and places where the underclass are sure to stay the underclass and therefore vote Democrat into perpetuity!). I'm sorry you've experienced that. I've experienced the opposite where I've been told I'm pretty for a black girl or I would be really pretty if I were light skinned (this by both blacks and whites). On the flip side, I've also been accused of being an Oreo, uppity and trying to 'talk white'. To all those people I said fuck you. You are not going to put me in a box and define who I am. Unfortunately, there are color struck people in the world. Hell, I had to deal with that shit in my own family, but at the end of the day what matters is that you know who you are and are at peace with yourself.

i tend to default to thinking that it is not necessarily a personal lifestyle choice but rather that "their people" have them do it for career advancement to help them become more palatable to "middle america" or the international audience. so many of them do it, there probably are marketing/p.r./sales/etc. studies to back up this approach.
stunningly, i think there are middle [and eastern and western] american consumers and international consumers who buy music and movie tickets but do not like or understand people they perceive as "100%" kinky haired Black American. i know, right? i'm shocked too. perhaps for some reason those people in the mass market feel more comfortable with entertainers with whom they believe they share...something...in common

I don't think Bouncy is lightening her skin in "real life". I do think that she doesn't necessarily mind if her skin is lightened in photos and things as long as the picture is nice. If companies are asking her to misrepresent her skin tone or are doing it on their own accord, she shouldn't go along with it and then turn around and fly the "I'm Black and I'm Proud" flag.
I do think Matt Knowles (and Beyonce is continuing) was very cognizant of the fact that it would be easier to market her as a star if she weren't perceived as "too Black". The older members of Destiny's Child stating that they had to tan lends credence to this theory. Hence the harping on her being Creole. Granted a lot of Louisiana Creoles do it without being famous. I think it goes back to issues of colorism in the African-American community. Many Creoles just as much European ancestry as other African-Americans, they just happen to be lighter in shade.
Also, the skin color issue is just an easy hook for people to get into discussing their dislike of Beyonce. Personally, I find her predictable and packaged. It is very commercially viable for her to be, but being the pageant queen of the music world is fucking boring.

I know TONS of people who are of mixed decent and they don't make a big deal about it. I even know some Creole girls myself who speak French and they don't brag. They're the sweetest people I've ever met. Hell, my cousin is of Japanese, Mexican, and African-American descent, and he doesn't brag. I don't get it! *Kanye shrug*
