I never said I was a feminist. And short skirts do not empower women. You must mistake me for someone who has signed on to represent a certain camp. Actually, i think that whatever flavor of feminist ideology that says women should be overtly sexual to feel empowered is flawed. What I disagree with-and here you did it again with me- is judging someone without knowing who they are. It's so easy just to write people off and categorize them in neat boxes. Isn't it?

In addition, you must think women are the biggest idiots of the planet to follow everything they see on TV. The job of the writers of Sex and the City is to tell a story. Not preach morality and give women prescriptive theories on how they should live their lives. I don't think that having a thin body type is the ideal body type for everyone. It works for some people, while others look better curvier. You have to find what looks right for you and find examples of that body type as inspiration.

The whole point is to have fun. Why can't we have fun without being whores? And I don't think Carrie Bradshaw was weak and pathetic. I think her character was flawed and to be human is to err. It made it real. BTW, I personally liked Aidan. I'd take someone who can fix something over a haughty arrogant jerk who's run me through the mud. See? I actually I have thoughts that don't mimic the examples that have been set for me by the television shows I watch.

I don't like the hat but that dress is gorgeous and she looks beautiful. They all look amazing. And let's face it, they have stylists. I'm sure she didn't pick that out for herself

Oh aren't you clever using the word "dichotomized"? Oh but you're right. She wore short skirts all the time--she's so empowered! Yeah except the whole show revolves around her being a doormat to some rich guy and the series ends with her getting together with him. The message for women? Just hang around long enough and that man who really doesn't loves you will change his mind. So true!

I'm all for women feeling sexy and unlike you I don't think it matters whether "she happens to also have a hot body suited for fashion so she can wear a variety of clothes." In fact, I find that a very offensive, male dominated view of the female body. Fat is a feminist issue!

That show was complete trash and pseudo-feminists can make up all sorts of crap about it challenging the dominant paradigm (see I ready wanky theory in college too!) to make themselves feel better about watching it, but ultimately the character of Carrie Bradshaw was weak and pathetic. Now go back to jezebel where you can complain about sexism and then, in the same breath, talk about women who are fat not wearing nice clothes.

Have you watched all of the seasons of Sex and the City? why don't you watch the last episode for example and see how many hooker outfits you can find.

You cannot just watch the TBS's (or whatever station it is) version of sex and the city. You have to netflix the DVDs. It is funny. I liked the fashion on the show. Especially Carries because it was different from the safe choices we make in the real world. However, that hat does nothing for her. And I hate that Maxim mag now for calling her ugly because it is ungentlemanly. She knows shes not that attractive--that is why she has a personality.
