John McCain is on Ellen Degeneres' show today (taped yesterday) and she brought up the subject of gay marriage. Dun dun dun! Ellen started by saying that she wanted to address " the elephant in the room." I was expecting Mike Huckabee to come out with glazed donuts. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
Johnny doesn't believe in gay marriage. Duh. Ellen used the opportunity to voice her opinion, "I think that it is looked at and some people are saying the same that blacks and women did not have the right to vote. Women just got the right to vote in 1920. Blacks didn't have the right to vote till 1870. It just feels like there's this old way of thinking (that) we are not all the same. We are all the same people. All of us. You're no different than I am. Our love is the same." Ellen is right. We are all the same people. Well, except for Paris Hilton. She's a dirty animal.
Ellen went on to say, " It sounds to me like saying well you can sit there (points in one direction), you just can't sit there (points in another direction). That's what it sounds like to me. It doesn't feel inclusive. It feels isolated. It feels like we aren't owed the same things and the same wording."
John responded, "I've heard you articulate that position in a very eloquent fashion. We just have a disagreement and I, along with many, many others wish you every happiness." Lies.
Ellen finished with a joke, "Thank you. So you'll walk me down the aisle? Is that what you said?"
McCain doesn't believe in gay marriage and I don't believe in him. We're even. And to think, I was going to invite his pasty ass to my upcoming Xanadu-themed California wedding. I really wanted to see him in velour chocha cutters and roller skates. He can stop checking the mail for his invitation! It ain't coming.

I'm just glad I was married in California before the "bride" and "groom" titles are forever banned and erased from the marriage certificates, as they will likely be now from the news reports I'm reading. Unfortunately for my little girl, she will never read that legal title next to her name if she's ever married in this state.
I believe, however, in marriage for gays because I hope it will bring back the idea of marriage as a positive. The prevalent attitude in society today is that it is a horrible institution so I'm glad to see that so many gays want to make marriage commitments and hopefully reverse the bad press. Generally, those who badmouth marriage are people who have been burned in some type of relationship in the past, cannot handle faithfulness, or are narcissists who buy into the anti-socialist principle of complete individuality in which they are incapable of unselfishness. Marriage can be highly satisfying if both parties are committed to it. If gays and lesbians are willing to commit to one partner in this age of uncertainty and fickleness, then more power to them!

Actually, I couldn't fucking care less if a brother and sister wanted to get married. Or hell, if a man wants to marry 10 women, I don't really care, as long as they don't get crazy, crazy unfair tax breaks because of it. Because, see, however much revulsion I might feel toward either marital party, well, it doesn't effect me and why the fuck should I have the power to control what they do with their lives? Yes, the incest/genetic deformity argument is valid, and special care would need to be taken in order to accomodate this. I don't know exactly what that would be, but our laws are not nearly as black and white as everyone seems to make them out to be (especially as it nears an election).

Oh yes, I know. Totally agreed. Also, this "go forth and multiply" shit worked a lot better before our population grew 1,000,000 as big. Not to mention the fact Christmas is basically the same as many other (some pagan) religious winter festivals. Or perhaps the fact that our motto "In God We Trust" was adopted in the 1950's, not 1776, and our nation was not fucking founded on these "Judeo-Christian principles." I won't even go into the irony of what our country has become vs. how it originally came to be.
