It's Just A Fucking Dress!
My Little Pony Parker wore this silver trash bag dress to the NYC premiere of "Sex and the City." It was supposed to be a big moment for Pony and now it's been ruined thanks to that trash bag dress. You see, the Nina Ricci rag was worn earlier this month by Lauren Davis. It was also worn by Lezzy Lohan for a Harper's Bazaar shoot.
My Little Pony feels that she was duped by Nina Ricci. She was told the dress was only wore for magazine shoots and never on the red carpet. She told The New York Times, “In the big picture, this is not important, but there is a relationship between the entertainment industry and fashion. We’ve watched sales dwindle and we’ve watched people be less inclined to spend money on clothes. Look, my affection for the dress hasn’t changed, but what they did was so short-sighted. It’s just unethical and disappointing that they would allow the dress to be worn again.”
Unethical?! We're talking about a stupid ass dress made out of trash bags! Besides, I saw that same dress on a homeless lady in the park last week and she looked way hotter.
The HBIC of Nina Ricci said he was "upset that she's upset." Pony will get over it. He just needs to give Pony a sugar cube, pet her gently on the head and tell her that "she's such a pretty girl."

Business is business. I'm with SJP on this one. She was lied to. She was lied to because Nina Ricci's camp knew she'd go with another designer if they told her the truth - that the dress had been worn before. SJP even said that it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it doesn't make it ethical or right. It's like if I signed a contract for the exclusive rights to something, and then I see it show up used somewhere else. That's grounds for fraud. Sure, I'm taking it a bit far and extreme but it's still along the same lines.
I liked the dress, but then I came of age in the 80s and the love of bad fashion rears its ugly head once in awhile.

Nina Ricci is on the up and up. Remember last year when Reese Witherspoon wore the yellow dress to the Golden Globes and the purple dress to the Oscars? Those were Nina Ricci.
IIRC, didn't Chanel do the same to Reese Witherspoon? It was supposed to be a vintage dress, but Kiki Drunkst had worn it a couple years earlier. They also did the same thing to Natalie Portman, and I think it was Kiki that had worn that dress first too. But as we can see, Chanel survived.

The truth is (in my opinion) it is a biggie, not as big as world hunger or AIDS but in the world of fashion and entertainment it is big. She is known (whether you agree or not) as a fashion icon. She was at the premier of her movie which has a large fashion element to it. The press was going to comment on the outfit and photos of her in the dress were going to appear all over the world. She asked about the dress and was lied to. As someone who has worked in both fashion and entertainment this is unforgiveable.

First off, the dress is gorgeous.
Second, while I'm usually "with" MK on this stuff, I certainly am not, on this one.
We might not think its that big of a deal, but in high fashion, exclusivity is a must. Its just the way it works. And you'd think that'd go without saying for something like SATC. To us, its not a priority, but they are in a different world than we are.

She actually sounded quite levelheaded about the entire thing. Part of the excitement of high fashion and couture is being the first and only person to wear a custom designed outfit. It has more to do with business than anything. Get the hell over it. Yeah, we already knew they had different priorities than us. In OUR world, its the equivalent of having worn the same dress to a party. Some girls would be livid, others wouldn't give a shit. And that scenario has nothing to do with their livelihood, whereas with SJP it does. This is her JOB. Its her RIGHT to be upset.

The two guys next to me were gay (and one of them was on the edge of his seat for the second half! lol). I think the movie climaxed on Friday and it'll be downhill from there box office sales-wise.
