Earlier, I posted about how Clint Eastwood said Spike Lee needs too "shut his face" after Spike said he was pissed off that Clint didn't feature any African American soldiers in a couple of his war movies.
Spike has responded to ABC News! Spike said, "First of all, the man is not my father and we're not on a plantation either."
Escandalo! You better duck. Clint is going to throw his caramel squares at Spike.
He went on to say, "He's a great director. He makes his films, I make my films. The thing about it though, I didn't personally attack him. And a comment like 'a guy like that should shut his face' -- come on Clint, come on. He sounds like an angry old man right there."
Angry old man? Yup, that sounds like Clint. What's Spike's point?
"If he wishes, I could assemble African-American men who fought at Iwo Jima and I'd like him to tell these guys that what they did was insignificant and they did not exist. I'm not making this up. I know history. I'm a student of history. And I know the history of Hollywood and its omission of the one million African-American men and women who contributed to WWII. Not everything was John Wayne, baby." YES! That's the way I like, Spike. Nice and dirty.
Spike finished with, "In his vision of Iwo Jima, Negro soldiers did not exist. Simple as that. I have a different version."
Seriously, these two parrots need to stop squawking and start brawling! If they don't want to take part in an oiled up cage fight, they can do a good old-fashioned dance off! I bet you Clint can make that ass clap like we were at the opera.

the Flags of My Fathers wasn't about iconic photos from Iwo Jima - it was about the 6 men who raised the flag in the iconic photo of soldiers raising the flag. And btw, that photo was staged.

An old uncle was there at IJ when they were doing the staging. I guess they took the picture, then had to go back later and do it again. The GI's were all standing around heckling the photographer and the guys. He later said he couldda been famous if he been a loud mouth.

If Spike Lee is not a racist then why is it the majority of his movies involving blacks and whites play to such stereotypes? He perpetuates whatever myths he needs to make his storylines work.
Just when I thought I was gone...I dont think any of his movies play to stereotypes. Moreover, as in Do the Right Thing, they take these stereotypes and apply them to a overall message in each of his films that we all really need to wake up to what's really going on. Are there black crackheads? Yes. Are there neck-snapping black women? Yes. Do blacks play basketball and care about clean sneakers. Yes(at least the ones I know). Do some Italians have anmosity towards moolies? Yes. These arent stereotypes, but facts. His movie School Dazed even attacks the hatred that us blacks feel towards each other.
I can't argue with your last statement though. Spike could very well make a movie based-off the WW through the black man's perspective. But...whether or not he would have the same co-operation with the Studios as Clint is another argument for another day. I doubt it, but his films do get made...eventually.

That would be me, and I'm glad to explain the fallacy of your argument. If your aim is to tell the story of the suffering of children workers in mills, then of course, you include them. That was not Clint Eastwood's aim. His aim was to tell the story of the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. Since there were no blacks that helped to raise the flag, there was no reason to include them in his story. There was a Native American who did help raise the flag, his story was told, and his part was played by a Native American actor. Clint did what he aimed to do. That may not have been the direction that Spike Lee WANTED him to do, but it wasn't Spike telling the story. And like I said, putting a black person in there just because they are black would negate the discrimination that the actual black people who served there and were ignored, went through.

All Spike Lee is saying is that there were Black Marines at Iwo Jima and Eastwood left their presence out of his film. Have any of you seen the film? I've seen the film. It has many extras - one of those extras could have been a Black actor in uniform, fighting alongside other Marines.
