Say It Ain't So!
Worst news ever. Over the past few months, there's been a few stories about Paul Newman fighting cancer. Last March, he denied the claims. The L.A. Times' Dish Rag now reports that 83-year-old Paul has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Paul is a known former chain-smoker.
Paul is reportedly receiving outpatient treatment at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
There's been no confirmation from the hospital or Paul's people.
Not Paul! Who's going to make us delicious lemonade? Let's just choose to believe this is an awful rumor. We should all think good thoughts over a huge bowl of Newman's Own popcorn.
UPDATE: Paul's rep told E! that the story is "not true." I believe him. Paul Newman cannot tell a lie.

Very sad. He was hall of fame hot like Gregory Peck. My mother has been living with terminal lung cancer for two years, and has been fully functional. I wish him strength.

Mister Newman is an elderly man, I hope he is well and recovers from any illness but we all have to die sooner or later.
As an aside, I think it's terrible that there is no privacy for people who are unwell and seeking treatment.
This is a major scandal, even if you are a celeb, your fucking medical records are PRIVATE.
Newman has made some of the GREATEST AMERICAN MOVIES OF ALL TIMES, he is not just some pretty boy who coasted along on his good looks (Brad Pitt).

getting lung cancer terrifies me.
however, my 34 year old friend was jsut diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, never smoked or lived unhealthfully, and has no history of colon cancer in her family. She has an 8% chance of living longer then 6 months more.
my grandfather chain smoked unfiltered cigarettes, and died at age 86 of a non-smoking related complication.
Like Paul, I think one should just try their best to be a good person, do what they like, and embrace life fully. To me, its all you can do.

I also quit smoking 6 months ago. Have only had one drag off of one since then. I was a total anti smoker until I hit 33. I had NEVER smoked a cigarette until one day I decided to get my belly button pierced, get a tattoo and start smoking. I wasn't what you would call a heavy smoker until about a year ago, then I smoked 2 packs a day. I hope for my sake that I quit to save my health in time. It has been fairly easy for me to have quit. Of course I have also changed many other habits and social situations that got me smoking in the first place. I wonder how long Newman smoked? Does anyone know? I am getting all scared now. The hypochondriac in me is nervous!

Forgot to say-- He made Tom Cruise look like the class nerd in "The Color of Money". Every female friend I had who saw the movie at the time ALL said they'd take Newman over Cruise in a heartbeat, and that was when Cruise was in his heyday and Paul Newman was in his 60's.
Hell, I'd take him in his 80's, Lung Cancer and all, and still feel like the luckiest girl on earth. Joanne Woodward must be some kind of angel to deserve that man.

Ill tell ya, I started smoking when I was 11 up until around 13 just about everyday before and after school. And then I only did it because I thought it was soooo coool that a girl as young as me was walking around smoking...but after that, everyone else my age started smoking and it just wasnt as cool anymore so I stopped as easy as that. I never got addicted or anything and havent smoked that much since.

guys, some of you may remember, but I had TWO neighbors die in the same week this past February, both from lung cancer.
One was 53, the other was 58. I saw the 58 year old deteriorate in front of my eyes....facial paralysis, she went blind and deaf, then had to be on morphine constantly, because if she wasn't she screamed in pain.

100% Gospel TRUTH, IDML. Paul Newman also gets a pass on smoking from me for the most part, because he started at a time when cigarettes were actually encouraged, and by the time they figured out the truth he had long been hooked. My Father-in-law died 4 years ago from Lung Cancer, and it is a torturous, slow, horrific disease and punishes not only the victim but the family as well. He was devastated that he was dying, hated what it was doing to his family and to him...but I still caught him several times dragging his oxygen pump out to the front porch to try to smoke a cigarette.
If a person doesn't even care if they blow themselves up doing something, I will reserve my judgment about their addiction (although I would have been pissed if he'd blown us up with him-- for about the two seconds I still had my head, anyway:-).

I quit smoking like 6 months ago and except for the occasional drunken slip-up haven't gone back, and even with the weight I gained it was totally worth it. You smokers out there should really try to stop or cut-back, it does wonders for your health.
