R.I.P. Tim Russert
Tim Russert, host of "Meet the Press," has passed away from an apparent heart attack. He was only 58.
The NY Post reports that Tim collapsed at NBC's Washington news bureau. His family confirmed his death to The New York Times.
First R. Kelly (see below) and now this?! It really is Friday the 13th. We all just need to get back into bed and pull the covers over.
Rest in peace, Tim Russert.

soooo sad. He was unique and apart from the numb minded meat puppet journalists who regurgitate the same evening news at 6, 6:30 and 7.
He was intelligent and thoughtful and of his own voice. I looked forward to his show each sunday as part of my lazy morning ritual.
RIP

I feel like an ass for laughing at that fart video.
Everyone in my family is so devastated by Tim's death you would think he was a part of our family. My mother said she felt like it had the impact more of a beloved president dying than just a news/political personality, meaning I think that the loss feels so great as far as the impact on the country and the effects his being gone will have. I'm just so, so bummed that he had to go so young when he was so obviously in his prime.
Mr. Russert was such a family man, and adored his wife! That is more than enough proof of a great man in my book.

I thought of him yesterday as well. He was David Bloom and he worked for NBC. Hard when you practically see these guys daily in your living room. Healing thoughts to their families, that's for sure
aahhh...Thanks for the name. Yeah. you almost feel like you know them. Just hearing everyone he worked with tell stories about hin, it's like, idk this guy is real genuine person off the camera. He apparently sent pillows to all of his friends when they had children with the baby's name and birthdate. I thought that was sweet. And he simply adored his son, Luke. I feel so bad for David and Tim's family. They were so young. I think this Father's Day I'm gonna make sure my dad knows how much he means. You never know, ya know?

Don't worry, it's a thinking man's game.
While I was watching the golf tournament, I heard them talking about a couple of old sports guys that had died in the last couple of days. Then this came on, I saw him all the time on NBC Nightly News (I don't have cable. All I need is Wheel and CSIs). Anyway, it made me really sad. Do ya'll remember the guy from CNN maybe? that died when the Iraq war first started. I watched him all the time and then he's gone. It is really bothering me that I don't remember his name or what channel he was with. I'm not a bad person I swear. It just proves this war has gone on way too long.
He is the reason I love politics and Sunday morning. A brilliant man that has made the entire nation turn to Sunday morning TV to find out what is happening in our world. You could just tell what a phenomenal person he was too. I did not know until yesterdays coverage that his Dad was a sanitation worker and how much he loved his hometown, but those values certainly shone through. RIP Tim
Rest in peace, Tim Russert.I like his program.I saw his profile on millionaire&celeb dating site ---"AffluentBachelors.com ----" befor. It is said he was in relationship with a young beautiful woman on that site .I believe it"s just a rumor.
Am I the only one who remembers the original "Manchurian Candidate" scene where the senior editor of the newspaper is murdered and told it was a heart attack right at the start of a bitter heated election in the movie?
ANYthing is possible in 2008...
RIP Mr Russert..

We will miss you terribly.
We are the ones we've been waiting for
All the best to the family...rest well, Mr Russert, rest well.
it's nice to see people focusing on the issue in these comments. this is such sad news. i didn't watch MTP a lot but it was always a pleasure...i agree with the commenter who said that they hope to get political analysis from TR in the great hereafter... i wouldn't have it any other way.
Sunday mornings will never be the same. Tim asked tough questions, and he wouldn't let his guests wiggle out of answering. He was liberal and it shined through. He was Meet the Press. They can replace him, but the show will never be the same without him. What a great and useful life. I envy him and all his accomplishment. Go into that great goodnight, peace out Tim.
We lost a good egg.
This sucks.
I was shocked and sad when I read about his death.
He really deserved to live through this election, he was so fired up about it, and was a very good reporter.
My heart breaks for his wife and son, but I can't help feeling so terribly bad for his dad. I got Tim Russert's "Big Russ" book for my Dad too a few years ago, he enjoyed it .
A sad shocking death. :(
only the good die young. cliche? unfortunately not.
His life was a testament to his intelligence and talent as a journalist. Condolences to his family.
He was a class act and this is a tremendous loss. My heart goes out to his family. RIP Tim! You served us well.
...a cut above the rest....a truly intelligent, wise man with uncommon, common sense and a humble demeanor....I hope to be getting my news from Tim in the afterlife....see you there, my friend...
This is so sad. He truly was one of the good ones... and he never forgot his roots. My condolences to his family and colleagues.
Sadness, I actually bought my Dad his book about Big Russ for Father's Day and it was one of his favorite gifts ever.
Tim Russert, you will be missed. I no longer have incentive to watch "MTP". RIP.

I was deeply saddened to learn that Tim Russert passed away. His show was the one that I specifically tuned in to- due to his wonderful interview skills-- he was personable, charming and a very calm presence. I will truly miss his delivery of the important topics of the day into my home.
My condolences to his wife, and his beloved son, Luke.
It is quite tragic for a man in his 50's to lose his life... so suddenly due to these circumstances.
"Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced."
A trajedy. He was well-liked. He dreamed about Saddam Hussein being caught the night before it happened. True.
By Peter Johnson, USA TODAY
At a party Saturday night in Washington, NBC Meet the Press host Tim Russert bumped into an unusually upbeat George Tenet.
He told the CIA director that he had dreamt that Saddam Hussein had been captured.
"Have a nice holiday," Tenet said, knowing then what the country would learn in nine hours: The Iraqi dictator had been caught.
On NBC's Today Sunday morning, anchor Tom Brokaw put Russert's dream in perspective, quipping that Russert, a Buffalo Bills fan, had often dreamt about the Bills winning the Super Bowl.

I hope someone is taking good care of Tim's 89 year old dad, Big Russ, until Tim's wife and son return to the U.S.
We really lost a great one today. Tim Russert was one of the very few journalists that I respected and trusted. He will be missed terribly.
I learned a lot from Tim. He set the bar really high. He is certainly a role model for anyone considering a career in SERIOUS journalism.
Condolences to his dad, wife and son and other family members. Thankfully, they were able to have their vacation in Italy. I'm glad he did not die on the plane last night.
RIP. He seemed like a nice guy. Never heard anything to the contrary.
Not to make this about ME, but that's the way I want to die. Nice and quick and hopefully painless. Of course the only nice thing about dying slowly from cancer is that you can say goodbye to people and you have a chance to experience some things one last time. But from a totally selfish point of view, I'll take a massive coronary.
this is such a tragedy ... i don't know what others have written ... but i'm sure it's all been said.
my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues ... this is a tragedy for journalism world wide.

R.I.P. Timmy, You'll be missed. You were the last great journalist of our time.
Fuck, man. Tim Russert was a class act.
He also changed the way America looked at dry erase boards.
RIP Tim, Sunday morning will probably be a partisan shitfest without you.

The war isn't working.
what terrible news, he is a class act, hope he rests in peace. he is exactly my dads age, I can't even imagine, far too young. I'll miss him on my tv. RIP Mr. Russert
Sad news. He'll be missed.
omg, this is fucked up!
really, why him? O'Reilly will probably live to 100. Tim Russert was a smart, terrific newsman who always had a sense of humor. One of a kind.
RIP.
Tim Russert, you were/are one of the good guys. I watched you knowing I would get the facts and sometimes a laugh. We know you are happy now. ThankYou for sharing your life and with us.

Very sad. He helped the viewers make sense of all the polics going around. He was also a good interviewer. Well that's two we lost. Jim McKay died last weekend. I grew up watching Wide World of Sports. RIP
Didn't watch the guy but 58 is awfully young. Bummer dude. RIP

Am I getting old or is the supermarket playing great music?
He was one of my favorite public personalities ever. "Meet the Press" was the only television I actually got excited over and looked forward to. (Alright, maybe Washington Week a little bit). But just so sad. Only 58 and his father is still alive even. And yet Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney happily carry on... that doesn't seem quite right.
WHATTTTTTT1!!!!?!?!?!!?!
Oh what terrible news! I love Tim Russert! I get my hungover ass up every Sunday to watch Meet the Press and my all time favorite, The McLaughlin Group. This year's election coverage won't be the same without him!
RIP, good man.

That's a bad blow to NBC. The man was terrific. Matt Lauer seemed to like him a lot and he doesn't like anyone or anyone likes him.

Still shocked. So young.
Tim Russert was a class act. My hubby and I watched Meet the Press every Sunday, and he will be missed.
Condolences to his family.
RIP, Tim. It's not fair that the hatemonger idiot O'Reilly still will be around to keep on spreading misinformation and hate.

Submitted by HEART ANGELINA - It's now being reported that he died from a coronary embolism, not a heart attack.

Thats what John Ritter died of. So Sad. He died the same way. Just collapsed.
Incorrect. John Ritter died as a result of an aortic dissection (torn aorta). He bled out over a period of time. Ritter was not feeling well all morning on-set and, when taken to the hospital, doctors misdiagnosed his condition and he died an hour later.
Unlike Ritter, Russert immediately collapsed and never regained consciousness, the result of a heart attack or an embolism. :(
