Why Doesn't Anybody Give A Fuck?!
Jamie Lynn Spears popped out other Spears spawn yesterday and nobody seemed to care. Seriously, when Jamie Lynn got knocked up, it was major shit and everyone seemed to want to talk about it. But yesterday when she finally gave birth, nobody gave a fuckity fuck! I talked to people about it and they were like, "Yeah? So anyway, I pooped out a perfect banana shape this morning. That means I'm healthy, right?" I'm baffled! But I think I'm more baffled by banana shaped pooped.
Anyway, People Magazine interviewed one of Jamie Lynn's distant cousins. Margie Busby had this to say, "She's awfully young to be a momma. But that's what they make grandmothers for. They have to help. That's the way it is with our circle of friends."
That quote says it all. And can't you picture Margie? Banana clip in her feathered hair, scrunchie on her wrist, one newborn baby in each arm, another baby barfing on her platform flip-flip, a vintage Billy Ray Cyrus cassette blasting in the background and a few chickens running through her double-wide trailer. And she's probably one of the classier Spears.

I have a friend who was conceived in the back seat of a car. Her mom was 19, single and rather "loose." My freind's half-sister got pregnant at 15 and had two kids by the time she was 19. My friend made sure she did not follow in their footsteps. Went to college, worked, met a guy, got married, had a kid. She was the first woman in her family to get married before having a kid.

My mother was a complete straight arrow. Though she had a kid at 18, it was because she got married at 17. She pressured us to do something with our lives, go to college, blah blah.
My older sister dropped out of high school, is a redneck slut that would make Kentwood proud, cranked out a kid by one of my father's friends (not sure which one, she kept changing her mind) and her life is a complete mess.
I made sure I didn't follow in those footsteps and all that. My point is, telling your kid to go to college won't necessarily stop them from getting knocked up. It depends on the kid and how much of a born hellraiser they are. Pity they didn't have long-term contraceptives when my sister was in high school; she still would have been a useless slag, but at least she wouldn't have fucked up an innocent life. (Her kid is grown, has been in prison many times).

I knew some 13-year-olds in my middle school who got pregnant. In their case, it was nothing to do with "not having something to look forward to", but the fact that nobody was watching their little butts - the fathers were all much older - and they were stupid bitches who were just learning the ways of sexual manipulation and enjoyed the power it gave them. I'm not sure they deliberately got pregnant; most likely it was due to the "it won't happen to ME" kind of delusional thinking that immature people are prone to.
Not that I don't blame the men who knocked them up, too. I do. But I don't think they planned their pregnancies to fill up their empty lives. I think they were dumb shits who didn't realize the consequences of their actions.
If I had a daughter, she would get a Norplant at puberty.

It's sad because she should be out having fun with other sixteen year olds. Right now she is just so happy she has the boy she loves, baby.
For some, that works out fine. But for others, we know that "boy" will not be the guy to the end, and she may end up regretting it.
But I do agree, her mother will end up raising that kid and we all know what a great job she did with Britney and Jamie.
Sixteen years old and just birthed the biggest responsibility EVER.
I see Mama Spears doing the raising. Jamie is gonna want to do ALL those "growing" up things. She isn't going to want to be tied down with a baby.
When I was in HS, there were a couple girls who got pregnant, all except one dropped out of school to have their babies. The one that didn't hid her pregnancy until it was too obvious and gave her baby up for adoption to a very loving family.
She was embarassed to be 17 and pregnant, but happy her mistake was someone elses reward.

I would just like to say that when I decided to have sex for the first time at 17, I marched my ass down to Planned Parenthood and got myself on The Pill and used it for a month before having intercourse with my boyfriend. Not all teenagers are stupid. I certainly wasn't!

I see your point, however, if a girl is *determined* to graduate and do something with her life, that day care is NOT going to make having a baby more appealing. But it will help the teen moms gradute from high school.
When I was a kid my mom constatly told me "You are going to go to college, you are going to be a professional, do not have a baby unless you are married."
That is what prevents teenage pregnancy--a feeling of having something to look forward to. IMHO.

Gone are the days when it was actually shameful to be a teenager pregnant. My friend in high school got pregnant at 15 and back in the 80's when that happened, you didn't see pregnant girls at school. Seeing that it wasn't something to be proud of and knowing that her life was going to be screwed, she gave the baby up for adoption and he ended up being adopted by a really good family.

I knew this white trash family in Indiana (I dated the son for a short time) and I noticed that most of the time, they did nothing all day except visit each other's homes, and drive around all day with their kids. Oh, also screw around a lot and pop pills.
So, I think having children gives them something to do and a sense of purpose in their pretty sad pathetic lives. What was interesting is that all the women in this family really wanted to go to college and do something career-wise (the career of choice was to become a nurse), but never did anything about it. If they did go to school, it was only temporary. Most of them didn't even drive. They relied on men, who were mostly deadbeats.
It was a sad existence and they knew it.

At the very least with a day care on campus it is easier for these stupid girls to finish high school (after which they will prolly pop out two more rugrats).
If I were in high school and I felt I had a future ahead of me (college, career, etc.) I doubt that an on-site day care would have made having a baby at 16 appealing.
