His sportscaster said he is African-American and Don responded, "Well, there you go. Now we know."
Don later said he meant Adam was being picked on by the police because of the color of his skin. Don said, "What people should be outraged about is that they arrest blacks for no reason. I mean, there's no reason to arrest this kid six times."
You know he didn't write that response. When you're 200 or 300 years old, common sense doesn't come into play anymore. It goes right out the door along with solid foods!

Just a few simple points.
1. Some of you are assholes for generalizing blacks and whites and their behaviors, so furck you all.
2. Don Imus has always been racist. If you don't like him, don't listen to his show.
3. Black people and other minorities are targeted by the police in some places, especially those who either have a lot of money or who have only a little bit. some are guilty some are not. that being said Pac-Man probably is guilty. All people regardless of race, should be treated fairly in the system, but we all know that's not the case here in the US.
4. White people go to jail, too. But it appears the rich ones and famous ones usually get off the easiest, guilty or not.
5. Both Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson should be banished. Neither of them are the emperors of black people, and I am sick of seeing them and their names when the issue of race comes up in this country. They only make things worse and give all the whiny white people who think minorities get all the concessions in this country more talking points.
6. Butterscotch pudding sucks, and I am sure Don Imus would do better to use it as a facial cream rather than as a sweet treat.
Pinkadoo, its NOT just Mexicans. Go to certain parts of Chicago, you only hear Polish. There are some poles that immigrated that never learned English, just as there are peoples of EVERY nationality that immigrate that don't always learn english for the reasons I provided. I do think that many overlook some of the significant barriers to learning English. I was VERY fortunate, as I studied English at university for YEARS before immigrating to the US. If you are feeling the secret police, and have nothing, and work as a maid and a busser when in the hell, and how in the hell, are you going to obtain fluency when you are scraping pennies to survive?

Hmmmm...you never know what you're going to get when race issues come into play on this board.
But on the topic of the gentrification of different cultures to the US, I remember when Bush was pushing legislation that would make our official language english. Honestly, I think that is the only thing he would've done right had legislation passed through the House and Senate.
It is common courtesy to learn a countrie's language if you intend on being a citizen whether illegal or legal. I find it very discouraging that in plenty of job postings, many employers require that you are bi-lingual in spanish here in Los Angeles. I am not disparaging or even disrespecting the latino culture, but why should I, after being a naturalized citizen in the US, have to learn spanish just to get a job?
If i lived in Mexico, would'nt I have to learn spanish at some point? The same goes for France or Germany.
I guess what Im saying is any one from any other country takes the time to learn english. Why cant Mexican citizens?

I've never been to Canada, even though we were considering living there--hubby would not have been granted a permenant visa. Living in Denver, where there is a high level of xenophobia against hispanic immigrants, I see how people react to accented English. Of course there are immigrants who don't learn the native langauge. Americans are notorious for not giving a shit about cultures or respect for langagues when they travel abroad. Germans are loathed in Europe when they travel too. There are many immigrants who do--I am willing to bet that many want to learn English, but one, its hard as hell to learn, and when you are working the jobs most immigrants are, one, you don't hear english at work, and when you work 2 jobs, there is little time to learn it, and most can't afford to learn English. English is one language that you really can't just pick up from hearing, because there are too many homophones. You'll get some English, but not enough to really understand the language.
I am willing to bet that ANY person who took the citizenship test knows more about the history and government of the US than the average joe. Look at the morons on jaywalking who don't know who the president is, or where the US is on a world map. Citizenship should be earned by everyone. Sadly, many people in the US have nothing invested in the US either--they don't vote, they don't contribute to society in any way, nor do they give a shit.

I agree, it IS a global world, but come to Alberta and you'll see what I'm talking about. Kids who go to school here more often than not have parents that don't speak a word of English and don't intend to. I'm not saying ALL immigrants are like this, don't get me wrong. I know quite a few myself and adore them. I'm referring to the ones who come here, don't bother to learn the Native language and try to play the 'race card' to get the government to do what they want (ie, transforming the Canadian national anthem from English to Hindi at a world-wide event). English is one of the hardest langauges to learn. there are no grammer or syntax rules, and the spelling is enough to make anyone trying to learn want to vomit. Its really really hard, especially when most immigrants may not have had the opportunity to learn it in an academic setting. Many come here as political refugees, with only their clothing. Most are painfully aware of the stigma of their accented English. Nope, it's not cool. We raised hell here when the Mexicans sang our National Anthem. It has nothing to do with immigration, it has to do with patriotism, and respect. Sing it in the language it was written, as the people it was written for, do, or don't sing it at all. It's not like there aren't plenty of recordings.

Unfortch here it's A LOT to do with immigration.. Canada's the 'Country of the Free' which is why it's so appealing to Immigrants. They see the word 'free' and they think it's a place they can mold into what they felt their country should be. My thought is I don't care what language people are comfortable singing the national anthem in, as long as they are singing.

Nope, it's not cool. We raised hell here when the Mexicans sang our National Anthem. It has nothing to do with immigration, it has to do with patriotism, and respect. Sing it in the language it was written, as the people it was written for, do, or don't sing it at all. It's not like there aren't plenty of recordings.

Ok, I want to get people's input here: In Canada, our Olympics representative is being given shit for this:
"I am sorry, but after hearing they want to sing the National Anthem in Hindi - enough is enough. Nowhere or at no other time in our nation's history, did they sing it in Italian, Japanese, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German, Portuguese, Greek or any other language because of immigration. It was written in English, adapted into co-founding French, and should be sung word for word the way it was written.
The news broadcasts even gave the Hindi version translation which was not even close to our National Anthem.
I am not sorry if this offends anyone, this is MY COUNTRY.

Racial profiling certainly does exist in the law enforcement community, however, that doesn't mean this Pacman person is not a thug.

However I dont think it was something he should have been fired over after making a public apology. And now, like someone said earlier, I think people are just waiting for him to say anything that could be construed as racism because the media got the public so fired up about that story.

don't you know black people only get arrested for being black and white people are too great to go to jail(only black and Hispanic go to jail)!! oh and Hispanic are innocent always innocent even if you have a tape of them doing it THEY ARE INNOCENT I tell you and Asians always blame it on someone else and plead ignorant, yeah that is how people think, no one wants to go to jail so everyone has an excuse, I am generalizing from my own experience working with a criminal lawyer, the law is color blind juries are not.

Imus is full of shit. He said what he said, and now he is trying to do damage control. He, in now way, is defending the brothers out there. Get this walking dead into retirement already. He's scary to look at.
I am a white woman, been arrested more times than I can count and can put my hand on a stack of People Mags and admit...I was doing EXACTLY what they said I was doing at the time to warrant the arrest. Same thing I told them in court, too.
Color me a dumbass for doing illegal shit away from the confines of my home. The Police were just doing their job (paid for with my hard earned tax $$).
Playing the race/age/religion/sex card, meh. If you are doing what they say you were doing just nut up and go to jail. Pay the lawyers and hope for light sentences.
