so far in this breakup the sympathy has been toward anne and been against the lying con man. this story could be to gain sympathy for him. he is not a sympathetic character so the cute doggie is used instead.

this seems to be exactly the kind of doggie everyone loves. anne will probably be happy to take her. she may have left her out of pity for a very ill woman whose son was going to jail.

Mrs. K, pet stores can break my heart in an instant! There is an awful pet store here that keeps an African Grey and an Amazon parrot in these small cages with like two toys in the back of the store. They said they never take them out because they "turned aggressive". I could have gone to jail right then and there if I didn't have some self restraint. Pet stores are so bad about taking care of birds, employees are scared to handle birds, and they have no knowledge at all. It pisses me off so bad, they don't understand how smart parrots are. Most pet store employees don't realize how emotional and intelligent parrots are. I have four cockatiels that all know tricks, including kissing me on the lips and whistling songs. They all know their names and have their own personalities, and love being cuddled. Sorry for the rant, but the way pet stores treat birds is sick and it doesn't get much attention because not everyone is a crazy bird lady.

I just hear so many horror stories about animals bought from breeders or pet stores.
Rescue agencies will be a lot more honest with a prospective owner than a pet store or breeder will.

Mrs. K, my Lhasa Apso came from a pet store and she's gorgeous and in great health. I know this isn't the norm for pet store pups, but I fell in love at first sight with my dog. There was no way I could leave the store without her. She's the sweetest thing on earth. However, I trusted the store I got it from since a friend worked there and at least I knew they took care of their animals.

If the breeder does not require you to sign an agreement that if it doesn't work out you will return the dog to them, WALk AWAY.
You do not want to buy a dog from someone who is not sincerely interested in finding a good home for their dogs.

I do have three Boston terriers, and Im not partial to any breed when it comes to rescue, but I send money out the ass to all rescues to them to use for the poor babies who are old, need surgery, anyfucking thing. I dont care.
My last baby is the momma of the two siblings I have. she was pregnant with her 4th litter in 4 years [yes thats right] and they come home in the heat of 105 degrees and she had been left alone and leaked and all of the puppies died and she had to have an emergency c cection and spayed.
When I found out about it, I begged them to let me have the momma and they gave her up. Go figure...she couldt be their money bank anymore.
Now she is fat and sassy, no ribs showing, shiny, and sleeps under my arm every night. she has it made and deserves it. The look in her eyes and she never gets within 3 feet of me says it all. animals are greatful...

I can't really judge her on this too much, because no ones knows what kind of doggie custody arrangements were made when they broke up.
In any case, now that he as been arrested and what is happening with the dog has been made known, Anne should go get the dog. However, I do not agree with paining her as some heartless dog dumper, if it was his dog too.

CTH those are exactly the conditions under which I bought a pure bred pug about 6 years ago. We had a lot of problems with her being jealous of my youngest son and after she bit him I had to make a really hard decision. She was only 9 months old and the breeder whom I really liked agreed to take her back; She asked me if I wanted my money back ($800.00) I told her that I didn't as long as she agreed to keep her on the farm with her her other pugs and not resell her. She agreed and last time I saw her she was fat & happy running in a pack of pugs through the fields. Doggy heaven!

Well, before I was blessed with the Second Coming (Minch) I did a lot of reading and research about this.
If you must buy from a breeder
it is best to buy locally so you can meet the parents and inspect the facilities. If the breeder says "No," walk away.
Also, the breeders should be asking YOU a lot of questions in order to determine if you are right for the dog. When I was trying to adopt a dog I had to fill out applications, get letters of recommendation from my vet, etc., etc. The breeder should be very concerned about you as a pet owner.

Malachai was born on a farm. his mom and dad were both living in a barn. the breeders do two mating sessions a year, NO EXECPTIONS.
this makes it easy on the female.
the breeders are perfectly happy to keep any unsold puppies as long as they have to.
they have one vet, and that vet makes house calls.
the pedigree of both the parents is on display.
you have to prove that you have the right property to have a large dog.

mrs k - good info! How do you know the difference between a "breeder" and a "puppy mill"? I saw a special about these breeders who rarely sold to pet stores and had this rep of being elite and having the highest standards of breeding. The doc crew did an expose and those dogs were treated HORRIBLY, all piled up in little stalls in their barn with no room to move, the bitches were over bred until they pretty much dropped from exhaustion and all kinds of stuff. Needless to say I was bawling by the end, but it just makes me distrust them all.

I have cats and a dog. All were strays which I have taken in. Love my pets. I can't imagine moving and not taking my babies with me!

saddly I had such a bad experience with the siamese from hell that it turned me off from ever trusting a breeder or the breed again. He simply had too many issues. one time he bite my wrist, an ER visit later for blood poisoning and 6 weeks of antibiotics. He accidently broke out of the house never to be seen again. I hope he found the home he was looking for.

Yo, nothing wrong with purebred dogs. I can understand if someone has a fondness for a particular breed. I myself would NEVER EVER have a dog that drooled or a dog that required a lot of grooming.
People just have a lot of misconceptions about dogs that need homes. 25% of the dogs in shelters are purebred. Not all the dogs that need homes are mutts and or have issues.
There are breed specific rescue agencies for just about every single breed. The AKC requires it!
And if you call a breeder and ask if they have any puppies and they say yes you need to hang up the phone. No scrupulous breeder ever breeds a dog until he/she has a waiting list for the puppies.
4 to 5 million dogs are killed every year because for the crime of having nowhere to go. Double that figure for cats.
Buying a dog from a petstore is just plain stupid because the dogs come from puppy mills.
