the lebron james cover you describe sounds like a vogue cover. for that one he is crouched, boucing a basketball and yelling. beside him gisele bundchen is jumping. he is wearing a uniform and she is in a gold dress. it is a terrible picture.

I don't follow sports so I didn't know what lebron james really looked like until recently ... even though I have that issue and there are a few pictures of him in there. anyway I saw him on tv not long ago. he was wearing a suit and looked very nice.

his fans are right to complain about the vogue photos. one could pretty easily say they were purposely unflattering although I have no idea why they went that route...

they also went on and on about how healthy and curvy gisele is as though she were a well fed farm girl. so...

Thank you. Jurnee is like my hero. While everyone else looks up to Beyonces, Rhiannas, the Nicoles, and the Paris', I look up to her. She's only a year older than me, and I just wish that I can live to accomplish as much as she's done so far. The fact that she actually set up a college fund for African American women to go to college so they can help break the stereotypes brought tears to my eyes. I never get emotional, but the power and conviction in her voice when she delivered that speech through her own tears just broke me.

To me, life is about diversity, an i wish it were better represented in print.

And the one actress u mentioned earlier, Jurnee Smollett, that was the actress i was referring to in my earlier post about the great debaters... Major respect for her! Such talent, really powerful inspiring being at such a young age. (esp with her work in south africa with Aids/HIV) Wish more of her peers were more concerned about local (if not global) social issues, than the industry or vapid quest for fame.

Yes, African Americans make up only 13% of the population, and technically we are over represented, but how much of that over representation is actually true? How often are black people portrayed as "ghetto," "loud," poor, lazy, violent, or just plain ignorant? It's not just black people either. How often are Hispanics seen as overbearing or overly religious? Or the Asian people? Not all of them know karate and speak only broken English.

To be honest, if Essence or Jet didn't cater to black people, no one would. For every black magazine you can list 10 other mainstream mags.

Actually, Vanity Fair has a rather large black following, which I still find odd considering that when they actually do feature black people they look stupid as hell. Why did LeBron have to be on the cover in a basketball uniform with a tiny ass model under his arm? Or why was Jennifer Hudson photographed unfavorably hunched over? That had to have been one of the most unflattering pictures she's ever professionally taken.

I'm not saying that they're being racists. You can't be a racists, without hate, but I am saying that they're being stereotypical.

Vanity fair is allowed to cater to their audience which is majority Caucasian. Just because they choose to feature more white people then minorities in their choice of up and comming actors does not make them "racist". I find it really ignorant that people have to minority watch on every little thing that is written about or featured on television. Just like vanity fair, Essence magazine caters to their audience which is mostley black. Not to mention that this Country is still a majority caucasian country. Some people would even argue that black people are over representated in the entertainment industry concidering their only 13% of the countries total population.

The Jonas Brothers are so friggin ugly, and that Demi Lavato chick that Disney is pushing now, is so annoying. Pretty voice, but to breathy, and her smile makes me want to shove my foot down her throat.
