Here's the issue I have: there are downfalls and privileges of being male or female; most of us don't get to chose. One of the plus sides of being a woman is being able to bear a child, something MEN can't do. 'Thomas' decided he wanted to live and be accepted as a man, yet this stunt is pulled. I'm personally sick and tired of seeing the children I work with day in and day out messed up because their parents decide THEIR needs are more important that the needs of their child. IMO, this is just another example. Their daughter has no choice in the matter, but for the rest of her life she will be branded as the child of the "pregnant man" who's really a woman.
My other problem with this is the fact that other transgendered people are able to pick what they wanted and stick with that decision. I'm sure there are some of them out there that see this as a slap in the face, especially knowing what they have to go through to be accepted. I've done research on this topic in the past and understand it's not an easy decision but it is something that is supposed to be done 100%, and most doctors won't DO the surgery unless you can commit to it completely. 'Thomas' didn't, and now that child is going to have to live with the consequences. THAT'S my issue with him legally being seen as male when at the end of the day he's got the same body parts I do yet thinks we should respect what an psychiatrist would tell you is a gender confused woman.

I brought this up the first time this story came out, this must have been her last vestige of being a biological female, she, bottom line, wanted to give birth to a child which in turn makes ME question if she is really ready to go all the way into becoming a male.
Yes, both her and her partner wanted a child, however, in the end she could have said no but she didn't. Instead, with a body full of drugs to aid the transgender process she opted to do this.
Now, the world knows about it, they made it public for why exactly?

Transmen ostensibly have it more difficult than transwomen, because, as the adage goes "It's easier to dig a hole than to build a pole". So the body is always incomplete. It's pointless to have a penile implant, because it will never function like one you'd be born with. Science is certainly less concerned with gender dysplasia issues, and is not in any rush to "perfect" the technology. Performance artist/porn star Annie Sprinkles had a documentary a few years ago called "Linda, Les, and Annie" that, um, explores this. That's why the vag goes nowhere. A few trans people I am acquainted with have gone so far as to have hysterectomies to supplement their testosterone therapies. As Thomas' story explicitly states, he kept his reproductive organs so that he could birth a child since his wife is physically unable. In other words, smoke em if you've got em. Sure, adoption is an viable option, but heteros are "selfish" and rarely explore the option, so why should it be a better one for the Beaties than artificial insemination? It makes sense to me, but then again, I'm a pretty liberal sort of gal.

@LCT: I understand the confusion but I agree with CTH that she is a woman. I am all for transgender people and respect their right to live their lives as they please but my issue with her is that she did not commit to the transformation, it's all very wishy washy. No. She's still confused. If she went so far as to have her tits cut off, and take testosterone shots, she should have completed the reassignment surgery. I respect anyone's desire to have children, but she is not a man, she is still a woman. Until she completes her reassignment, she's still a woman. Dressing as a woman, and wanting to change your body to become a woman or man are 2 very different things. Any of the drag queens I have ever met, are perfectly happy with their penises.
