My daughter who just turned 3 was diagnosed with autisim at 18 months. We have no known mental illiness in our family, we did have genetic testing done on Sydney. Sydney also had alot of problems with ear infections. I cannot say for sure if immunizations caused her autisim, but, I do feel that the current schedule is too much too soon and agree that immunizations should be spaced out. I feel that the answer to the question of what causes autisim will be coming soon, Hopefully fewer parents will face this devasting diagnosis with their children. I just wish that people, like Amanda Peet, were more understanding of our search for answers and be grateful that they are not walking in our shoes.

Late on the chicken pox vaccine or not, you did the best thing for your kids. I say that as one from the generation before the chicken pox vaccine, that had chicken pox as a child, and now suffer from shingles because of it. You've saved your children a world of pain with that one, I can assure you.

I haven't done much research about this so I don't know if vaccinations have anything to do with Autism.
Both of my kids were vaccinated without any problems but they were both a little late getting their chicken pox vaccines. I don't know if that made any difference.

Since removing mercury from vaccines, the rate of autism has risen, not fallen, so that alone proves Jenny's claims are not completely valid. Besides, not vaccinating your children leaves other children open to danger. I have never been inoculated against measles, I'm allergic. I'm grateful parents in my area were required to vaccinate when I was a child. It was still safe for me to go to school. Had there been the hit-and-miss practice that goes on today, I could have gotten sick, and possibly died. Sorry, Jenny, the lives of the many outweigh the needs of the few, especially lacking concrete proof.

It's really nice that actresses have ONE kid and all of the sudden they are PH.d's in motherhood. Who the hell is Amanda Peet anyway? who the fuck cares!

I'm the mother of three. All my kids have fared well with immunizations. In fact, neither kids have ever gotten diseases that I was plagued with..I got chicken pox, measles and mumps. AND I was vaccinated! Go figure!! I will wait many years before I decide to vaccinate my daughter with Gardasil until there is a 10 year history. But I think if there is strong reliable evidence that the vaccine works, then I'll opt it for my kid.

Actors just need to continue on with their lives and stop acting like what they are now doing is so beyond what the rest of the world does day-to-day. I didn't get a front cover article when I had my kids..so why do I have to see their ugly mutts.

alright, i'm going to throw my two cents in.
my kid has ASD. i do not, in his case, think it is due to vaccine injury. he never had a reaction to any vaccines. however, i know far too many people who have a kid who got a flu shot or the MMR, had a horrible fever or other adverse reaction, and disappeared the next day. vaccines may not cause autism, but they sure as shit aren't helping. different bodies react differently in breaking stuff down yet all vaccines are the same. although i don't think vaccines are causing 1 in 150 (1 in 94 boys) to be on the autism spectrum, i do think the rise in autism is connected to vaccines and i think it is partly due to the *INSANE* vax schedule. i'm about to pop out another one and even though i will vax, i'm changing the schedule. no hep b shot at birth (since i'm not an IV drug user and don't have any STDs, it is kind of unnecessary to do within days of entering the world), breaking up the MMR, only one shot at a time and no flu shot. the flu shot (which NY wanted to make manadatory) doesn't even always protect against the right strain of the flu!! also, check the dates on vaccines. even though mercury is no longer used in vaccines, they have a loooong shelf life, make sure they are post-2001. i have a friend who lost her daughter at 2 1/2 to meningitis. she was vaccinated against meningitis, just not that particular strain. sorry. vaccines are not protecting you from everything. end of rant. sorry if this info is repeating what other people said, my ass is too lazy to read all the posts this morning. and i think jenny would kick peet's ass.

We have three kids........first two were vaccinated "on time" and they had non stop chronic ear infections........three sets of tubes each (operations) and total horror......third kid I held off until she was almost a year.......guess what???? She NEVER had a GD ear infection and was NEVER SICK.......all three were breast fed.

I believe that the vaccines are TOO MUCH TOO SOON. They should not vaccinate kids until they are at least two years old, and even then the vaccines should be given at seperate doses. I am firmly convinced that the "too much too soon" is causing all the autism.

Wait, wait, wait. I thought that the problem re: autism was with the COMBINED MMR vaccine, not with the three vaccines given separately.

Vaccinations do NOT cause autism. It's a correlation not a causation.
Just because your kid doesn't catch a cold doesn't mean you kid shouldn't be vaccinated for the measles. They aren't the same in severity.
All children should be vaccinated so that there isn't a reemergence of these diseases.

Jennie isn't anti-vaccination, she just disagrees with how rapidly they are given. I personally think that the vaccine triggers a pre-genetic disposition in some children that results in autism.

I believe in vaccinations, but I wouldn't get my child vaccinated until they are ready to go to school.

I think the autism discussion needs to be looked into, because if there is a chance a vaccine could make a child autistic, we ought to change that vaccine.

I had all of the standard vaccines, and even had the chicken pox one given when I reached age 11 and still hadn't gotten chicken pox. I am thinking about getting that shot that prevents certain kinds of woman parts cancer ( I can't think right now)

My point is- vaccines are god as long as doctors, the public, and the medical field at large is keeping them as safe and effective as possible. Where would we be without some vaccines? We'd have polio, small pox, etc.

The fact of the matter is, no direct link between autism and vaccinations have been found. There are many factors that could play into why there's such a high number of children being diagnosed with autism. I think that when people cant find a direct reason why their child is afflicted, they blame one thing, and when those notions are discredited, move on to something else.

Today it's vaccinations, tommorow breakfast cereal. Until a direct reason is found, uneducated people like Jenny Mccarthy are only doing more damage than good. For one, maybe her old egg having ass shouldnt have waited util her boobs sagged and nobody wanted her skank ass on television anymore to have kids.

I'm very pro-science and I was vaccinated and I will continue to vaccinate until there are proven diagnoses as to what's causing autism.

I don't know how different things are in the US, but here's my vaccines card info.

1) Tuberculosis: one shot, at birth.
2) Poliomyelitis: Preliminary at birth. 1st shot at 2 months old. 2nd at 4 months old. 3rd at 4 months old.
3) Diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and illneses caused by H. influenzae b: 1st shot at 2 months old. 2nd shot at 4 months old. 3rd shot at 6 months old.
4) Again diphteria, pertussis and tetanus: 1st reinforcement at 2 years old. 2nd reinforcement at 4 years old.
5) Measels, rubella and parotitis: 1st shot at 1 year old. 2nd shot at 6 years old.
6) Tetanus and diphtheria: reinforcement at 12 years old.

My children are ridiculously healthy. My daughter is almost 3 and has not even had a cold that warranted a Dr's visit. How many children do you know that is that old and is never sick? And yes my child is put into multiple settings with children every week so she is exposed to various things. At the same rate, as healthy as she is, I don't see her exposing any other child to anything either. My almost 5 year old son has been to the Dr less than 5 times with not one single infection of any sort.

Not to jump in the middle of this debate-but my 5 year old daughter has been fully vaccinated and is healthy also. I think genetics have a lot to do with how healthy a person is-be it a child or an adult. Breast implants are evil. I *almost* succumbed to getting implants myself but decided not to. I have ample boobage, yeah they are a lil' saggy from breast feeding and gravity but they're mine and I certainly couldn't afford to keep getting my implants redone every 7 years. -And, I can't even imagine the horror of what my tits would look like after having implants for years and then having them removed like Pamela Anderson did for a while and then ended up going even BIGGER. Eeeks! No thanks.

Yes, I'm well aware of the spectrum which a noted chemist has associated with mercury. Yes, Asbergers, ADHD, etc are just milder forms of mercury poisoning. Milder compared to low functioning autism. Your point that there is no increase in these disorders is too ludicrous to argue.
And regarding your implication that our society is free of corruption is naive. When you have a powerful group involved in such a large scale disaster like austism, there will be coverups, blaming the parents, ridiculing the advocates (jenny m.). The medical community has used mercury for years in medicine without understanding the consequences. When those consequences were brought to the pharma's attention, they were more concerned with covering their ass. And they had the power and the people to help them do it. My last comment on this topic. Cici, there is high, medium and low functioning autism out there. You should know that the kids that injure themselves, are low functioning (as my cousin is). High functioning autism kids or kids with a form or Asperenger's can be close to normal to others despite mild develomental problems--there is now something called Autism Spectrum disorders --which makes plenty of kids who are not classic autism kids subject to the diagnosis.

Autism was first diagnosed in the 30s of 40s and it is not obvious but for the low level and at that it used to be just called mental retardation. Moreover, back in the 40s, 50's, 60, and even 70's mental disease was hidden and not socially acceptable so basing its increase on data kept in the mid 20th century is not a valid measurement.
