Patrick Swayze Is A Miracle

It's Johnny Castle and he's looking better! Patrick Swayze arrived at LAX yesterday and told the paps, "I'm cookin'. I'm a miracle dude! I don't know why." I know why. My nightly chanting of "She's Like the Wind" must have paid off.

Since being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year, Patrick has been receiving treatment at Stanford Medical Center. Patrick admitted to smoking up to 3 packs of ciggies a day and thinks that may have been a cause of his cancer. Last May, Patrick was photographed smoking a fag.

Patrick was at LAX to fly to Chicago to start shooting his new TV show called "The Beast." It's nice to see his ass looking hot. Hopefully, he quits the ciggies and continues to do well. I'm still waiting for a sequel to "Steel Dawn."

Impertient Vixen - of course. you make good and valid points.

there are obviously many gray areas and points of contention when discussing the issue I brought up earlier. Its not a direct paralell.

Its not as simple as : feel bad for swayze, feel bad for wino. My point was not to paralell the two individuals

It was more to elaborate on a point I make on here often: addiction is addiction. Be it pretty or ugly.

Missy, I agree with your societal conditioning point, but Swayze is a talented individual who never to my knowledge got arrested, fought with his significant other in public and drew blood, wandered the streets in dirty clothing, pandered to the paparrazi, didn't show up for gigs, etc., but did smoke cigarettes (which are more societally acceptable than street drugs, still). Whereas Crackhouse is a complete mess even besides being on drugs, surrounding herself with questionable people and married to a druggie in jail, and seems to be living her life in a complete vortex of self-destruction. That's the difference between the two. One we root for despite his killer habit, and the other one seems destined to destroy herself in public.

Missy,

I don't think I've said that about wino. In fact I often remark how sad it is that she's killing herself. However this isn't the John's Hopkins 'share a little love' board this is Dlisted and if you want to read sympathy cards or find social justice I suggest you look elsewhere.

PS: Best to Mr. Swayze. Absolutely LOVED him in "To Wong Foo". That flick brings a tear to my evil eye every time.

well well well, id just like to point out the societal conditioning that is getting in the way of reasonable and logical thought.

swayze was addicted to a drug which he used often: nicotine. He abused to drug to the point where it could have taken his life.

and everyone says "Oh, swayze, smoker of cigs, we wish you the best. So glad he beat the cancer. Good for him."

now we have my girl, Wino. she is also addicted to a drug: cocaine. she is abusing her drug of choice to the point where it may take her life.

and everyone says: "DIE ALREADY SKANKY CRACKBAG!"

I just want to point out that you are conditioned by this society and the way you percieve life is shaped by it.

Society has a lot of worthwile functions, however creating good and enlightened individuals is not one of them. Be careful how you think.

Although genuinely happy for him, I cannot help but think that having the finances to afford the best medical care available may have something to do with the "miracle". Congrats. are in order though!!!

Congrats Ricki & Always Sunny for quitting!! Takes a lot of strength to stop. Bravo!!!

I can't say I have ever found him sexy and am probably one of the only women I know that absolutely hated that movie, but I digress...

anyway, glad he is doing well and I hope he makes it. I think the statistic is that only 5 percent of people are alive 5 years after diagnosis...

Addiction is one hell of a fight. I know it's old news to compare the addictive nature of cigarettes to heroin, but that doesn't make it any less true. Addiction is a beast, that's why it's described as a monkey on your back. When you're sick, and upset because you're sick, it may take all of your strength to fight your illness, and there's not any left to fight the addiction. Plus, to be quite harsh about it, the damage is already done, more cigarettes at this point, aren't going to kill him. The ones he's already smoked have done that. I don't know, I think it's way harsh to expect a man to fight for his life and fight addiction at the same time. If he's pretty much dead already, what more can cigarettes do to him? He's already got the cancer. Stopping smoking isn't going to cure his pancreatic cancer.

morning and screw the cigs. they stink, cost a fortune, ruin your health and are useless.

all the best to patrick swazye! i hope the guy recovers.

Still, to be on the safe side, producers have ordered only one season of The Beast. One of the plot lines involves Patrick's getting cancer.

Aww, thanks everyone. I feel like I'm lucky because it just sort of happened...I'd smoked for awhile and thought it was getting kinda icky so I just cut back, and even then it was just feeling gross to me so I let it just fade out of my life. I don't think about it much anymore, even when I drink (!) but I know I'll have to be vigilant about it at some point. Anyone else quitting, good luck! You can do it!

And so can you, Patrick Swayze! Worry about your cancer first though, lol.

Wow, that is amazing. I thought pancreatic cancer had basically a zero survival rate, really brutal. Keep it up Patrick.

@ricki lake - I quit 5 years ago, but still have one every once in a while. Starting to get to the point where I don't even want to do that. My Dad is in the beginning stages of emphysema and still smokes. The longer you smoke, the harder it is. Good luck to you!

I lost a brother-in-law to pancreatic cancer a few years ago. The ups and downs are horrible. It's a nasty disease, not only because it rarely ends well, but because the disease usually progresses quite slowly, causing the emotional roller coaster to go on for a long time.

I hope he beats it.

ricki lake:

my father smoked 4-5 packs for nearly 35 years and he did not quit until a year before his death.

I fight against being a 'weekend smoker' now and even that would have my father rolling in the grave.

Hi5.

He really looks like he had another facelift. I'm glad he's beating cancer though...

Smoking is really addictive - duh. People do things they know are bad for them - especially if they're addictive. Duh. This should come as no surprise.
I recently "quit" and it was really hard. I feel ok but I feel like it will be a looooong process, and that on some level I'll always instinctually want or think about that cigarette.

Oh, and Patrick Swayze made both "Red Dawn" AND "Steel Dawn"? LOL....Red Dawn is an 80's classic.

I know it! Wouldn't that scare you enough to quit? Or maybe the stress of knowing that maybe you'll be dead soon makes you smoke even more.
