yeah that chick who played rose did die of cancer. i'm ashamed to admit that i did listen to the phantom of the opera soundtrack as a kid and the lady who played rose was also a main character on the album.

i had heard ms. routledge is an out and about actress, although she has great rapport with her tv husband, richard. she has won quite a few accolades for her acting skills in the UK.

I' glad the US never did try to copy it, they just would have screwed it up. Remember "Coupling"? Just my point. the NBC version was so bad it only lasted three shows. However, they did do "The Office" pretty well.

That was a great show, I don't watch it often, though. My friend loves it, watches that and a few other Brit sitcoms.

The Daisy character reminds me of me....only difference is that I'm a neat freak about the house, but I'm happy in rags, as long as I have a good book.

I loved Keeping Up Appearances. I wish she had stayed with the show instead of going off to do live theater. The rest of them didn't want to quit, but they had to because the star left. :(

I agree, Talibah! I watch Hyacinth every Saturday night.

But don't forget "As Time Goes By" and "Vicar of Dibley". I also miss "Absolutely Fabulous" but I have scads of them on DVD and VHS.

These Britcoms are fantastic; I just wish there was one that starred Penelope Keith that I could stomach.

Oh my God! Hyacinth! Everyone on that show is a hot slut, but no one does it like Hyacinth. And 2nd place has to go to Sheridan. You know the reason he was never seen HAD to be because he was gay!Hyacinth kept him at distance because he and Emmet would have hooked it up.

I know a lady like this now. She fakes a british accent with her well to do friends although she grew up in the hood. She also has another group of friends from Nigera and fakes a "upper class" Nigeran accent with them as well. She doesn't make a lot of money but buys old but big name clothing from goodwill but claims she bought it from Nordstroms. I could tell her off but that wouldn't change anything.

On another note..I love this show.

Speaking as a person who lived with this lady: There is just no telling her anything! I'm pretty sure they did TRY several times on the show but she is a master of misinterpretation.

Also the lady who played her sister 'Daisy' was Mrs. Claus in the movie where Dudley Moore was an Elf. Classic movie.

YESSSSSSSS! I love this show and own all the episodes on DVD. I also have Hyacinth Bucket's book of etiquette. -And, don't forget it's pronounced "bouquet" not bucket *snicker*. -But, all of the sisters had flower names so of course Hyacinth wanted to have the last name bouquet. lol I'm so glad I'm not the only dlist fan of this goofy show.

this is awesome! my grandma and I would always love this show, this lady is a hilarious nutcase. It still kills me that she pronounces Bucket 'Bouquet'. I wish I could be that much of a tard in life!

Bjork - Actually, Daisy was married to Onslow. Rose was the one with a gazillion "gentlemen friends" :-)

Part of the joke with that show is that each sister had a personality to match their names:
Daisy - Common, but down to earth
Rose - All about being showy and needing attention
Violet - tempermental, difficult (wasn't seen often but always fighting with her husband at their home "with the swimming pool in the backyard and a pony")
Hyacinth - fussy, old-ladyish

Anyway great choice.

On a sad note - the actress who played Rose (not the original one but the one who was on the show for a long time - the second - better Rose) died of cancer about 10 years ago.
