WHAT?!
While watching last week's opening ceremonies of the Olympics, I thought to myself how adorable the little girl was who sang China's national anthem. Adorable with a voice like a precious hummingbird! Well, it turns out the pretty little girl was lie-telling to us all! She lip-synched the whole thing. She's the Zelma Davis of China!
Chinese officials confirmed that they decided at the last minute to pull 7-year-old Yang Peiyi (on the right) from the opening ceremonies, because they felt her teeth were too wonky to represent their country. They replaced her with 9-year-old Lin Miaoke who lip-synched to Yang's voice.
The ceremony's music director said, "The main consideration was the national interest. The child on the screen should be flawless in image, in her internal feelings and in her expression. When we had the dress rehearsals, there were spectators from various divisions, including above all a member of the politburo who gave us his verdict: we had to make the swap." Was Jeff Lewis from Flipping Out the musical director? Harsh!
Peiye claims she wasn't upset after she was told she couldn't perform, "I am proud to have been chosen to sing at all." Peiye is way too nice. I would've sabotaged Miaoke by making the track skip! That way Miaoke would've just stood there, shrugged and danced a jig like Ashlee Simpson.
That wasn't the only fake thing about the opening ceremonies. The 29 fireworks footprints were digitally added later. A cameraman in a helicopter filmed the fireworks as they were happening live, but producers thought the footage might be too shaky.
So what was real?! I actually gave a standing ovation to that shit! I got my lazy ass off of the couch and I never do that! AND I even toasted the TV with my martini. I feel so cheated! I want my money back!

Angel i - I hate to post off-topic, so that would be my last one:
I believe it's called a "big city syndrome", when you long for forest, greens and nature. I've spent most of life in capital cities and it's so hard to fight the will to go to the forest, but when I do - I'm the happiest person ever and no luxury can replace this feeling. So when such memories are bonded with a child and with a song, that must be really something to remember your whole life! And the best thing - memories are something that no one can take away from us.
Thats horrible! Poor little thing. They are both super cute.
i take back what i said about yang or else i'll not sleep tonight. she is very cute and i am sure she is going to be a great singer. what i wanted to say is that the organizers wanted to look their best. appearance is very important and i guess yang did not feet their ideal look. she is supposed to be a singer, not a model. but that is the problem...even here at dlisted the majority of the comments about a singer or actor are about how they look, not about their talent. that's why there are so many pretty girls who can't sing.

When I said "no ugly people allowed" I was referring to actions by the Chinese government to make a good impression on the rest of the world by banning Chinese people they consider unattractive from being seen at the Olympics.
Human rights violations by the Chinese government have been and continue to be systematic and widespread.

angel_i - what was the story with your daughter? Did you gave birth, listening to this song?
***************************
No...but I went into the forest when I was pregnant and I had a whole bunch of music and dogs and a trail and life was very simple and sweet. I have a bunch of songs in my head that I stored just for her, I guess. Yours. I have the warmest fuzzy memories of holding her and listening to that song...just what an immense joy it was to have had her.
Now we live in the city and I listen to a lot of metal and gangsta rap. (kidding, sorta)

p.s. whether which act is more 'horrid'... arresting homeless people or making a chinese girl hide behind the scenes... is a subjective judgment call anyway.

Chimp, lip synching a song because you think a kid is too ugly to represent the people of your country is a little different. Moving the homeless is bad, but telling a kid who can sing her ass off she's too ugly for the world to see singing is just horrid.

As Olympics Approach, Homeless Are Not Feeling at Home in Atlanta
By RONALD SMOTHERS
Published: July 1, 1996
Tony Johnson says that in his eight years of being homeless in Atlanta, he has been bundled up like so much trash on the street by the police and carted off to jail more than 100 times, mostly for trespassing.
Mr. Johnson said he did not need a calendar, a calculator or a statistician's precision to know that his arrests and those of others were clustered around events like the 1994 Super Bowl, the 1995 World Series, any Billy Graham crusade and computer industry trade shows.
It was all about as predictable as 90-degree-plus days in July here.
"I know what the deal is, I know the routine," he said recently while talking about his life on the streets and the problems of drug addiction and alcoholism that have kept him from patching up his life.
Mr. Johnson, who is 40, said he knew what to do to avoid police sweeps in the days leading up to the Summer Olympics. "All you have to do," he said, "is have a place to stay, some identification, some money in your pocket, nice clothes and avoid the hot spots."
He and many advocates for the homeless say that with the Olympics and the city's legendary boosterism and tendency to preen, life on the streets for the homeless may become an oxymoron.
With the passage of a new ordinance and stricter enforcement of a number of anti-loitering and panhandling ordinances, they see increased efforts to remove homeless people from the streets in anticipation of the arrival of about three million visitors for the Games, from July 19 to Aug. 4. Mr. Johnson said he had been told to expect a police sweep this week.
In the last few months city officials, including Mayor Bill Campbell and Chief Beverly Harvard of the Police Department, have insisted that there is no city policy to clamp down on the homeless before the Olympics.
"It's preposterous" to suggest that the city has a policy of removing the homeless from the streets, Mr. Campbell said in an interview today.
Still, Anita Beaty, co-director of the Atlanta Task Force on the Homeless, said her group had documented more than 9,000 arrests of homeless people from May 1995 to May 1996, a number she said was four times greater than what her group had recorded in other years.
With that data and affidavits from more than 160 homeless people, the advocacy group has filed a lawsuit challenging two city ordinances and one state ordinance as unconstitutional. The group asserts that the city has made targets of the homeless in "a systematic effort to purge them from the streets and other public places."
The plaintiffs recently won a minor skirmish in their legal effort when Judge Owen J. Forrester of Federal District Court here issued a temporary restraining order against the enforcement of a crucial provision of a new city ordinance.
The provision would have allowed the police to arrest people "acting in a manner not usual for law-abiding individuals" in parking lots and garages, where a large number of burglaries and thefts have been reported and where homeless people often seek shelter.
Conviction under the measure would carry a sentence of two to six months in prison or assignment to a public works project and probation.
Judge Forrester found the provision's phrasing broad and possibly unconstitutional. More arguments and a decision on extending the restraining order are expected next week when the task force lawyers and city attorneys return to court.

Can't you say the same shit about Americans?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No I can't, and neither can you. Give me ONE example when the American government has done this...
Beijing's measures reflect an international pattern of urban regeneration in which "people are decanted and taken away" if they do not fit the image that governments seek, said Rob Imrie, professor of geography at King's College London. Efforts step up when major events are involved. "Look at how sanitised the G8 summits are... it's clear that certain individuals are not welcome... but also that those involved are not supposed to see certain parts of their environment."
It does not matter if she sang the chinese national anthem but is insulting that they decided to rob a talented kid of possibly one of the high ligh of her life because according to them she was not cute enough and give it to a kid that is "cute" and use the voice of the girl who got rob, you should not take the merit from a talented kid and give it to another person , this is how fuck up society is
