Billy Bob Thornton As Freddy Krueger?!

One...two....Billy Bob's coming for you. No. That doesn't have a nice ring to it. Michael Bay is currently working on butchering the classic "Nightmare on Elm Street," and apparently he's signed Billy Bob Thornton to play Freddy Krueger. Billy Bob would make a better Crypt Keeper instead.

What is wrong with Robert Englund? You can't make a "Nightmare" movie without Robert. He IS fucking Freddy. You basically just need him and Heather Langenkamp! Those bitches aren't doing anything. Although, I would rather Heather reprise her role as Marie in the TV remake of "Just the Ten of Us." But that's just me.

I mean, Billy Bob?! I guess he sort of makes sense since his face makes kids eat their own hair, but he's no Robert Englund!

I've always had a soft spot for "Roadwork," not only because King describes so well the process of an ordinary man slowly going mad, but because I can understand the attachment to places where you've spent a lot of years.

I did get through Lisey's Story though and liked it. However my Kingaloonie friend said that she thought it was not one of his better works. He did come to my hometown to research "Of a Buick 66"?? Yes! "From A Buick 8"! One of his more recent ones (his newer works, I must admit, have gone a bit downhill, sadly.) I am also going to say that I am --INSANELY-- jealous that he came to your town. Did you get to meet him!? Lucky slut! xP

Anyways, m'dears, I must be toodling off to bed now, as I have to haul my butt outta bed early tomorrow for work. It has been lovely playing the bookworm with all of you and I really truly did enjoy it! *blows kissies* Good night all! And happy barfday again Kiz!

Yeah!! I remember that one, that was part of the set he did about smoking, that it first just came out on tape. At the end, the sane man sits on the curb and tries it out, saying "EEEEEEEEEE." I remember the packaging was similar to Marlboro Reds, and had that SmokeEnders story, which, as a smoker, terrified the living fuck out of me.

I love Lisey's story. "we all go to the pool to drink"

I can understand your friend's not liking it as much, as it is a departure from a lot of his other work. There is a marked difference in his work before the accident, and after the accident, and there is a lot of catharsis in there. That one and especially Duma Key.

*keeps her fat mouf shut because she's ashamed to say that's she's never read "Catcher"*

Oh man... "The Tommyknockers" was the only book by him that I really didn't like. It was just too weird, even for King. Still managed to scare me (all of his stories do) but I just couldn't get into it like I do with his other books.

"The Shining" on the other hand scared the PANTS off of me and it is by far one of the best books I've ever read. I remember the first time I finished reading it I was afraid to get in the shower. xD Still am sometimes. *blush* And that's how you know it's good, when he continues to make you wanna pee your panties months later!

There was one story, though, that affected me greatly. I can't remember the name of the book it was in, but it was one of his shorter pieces. Basically, it's about a couple who go into a restaurant and the maitre'd goes absolutely mad and starts killing people all over the place and shrieked "EEEEEEE!!!" That scared me to no end, because at the restaurant I worked at there was this really creepy guy who never really talked to anyone except the customers and would always make really weird comments about how they smelled nice. I was convinced he would go apeshit one of those days.

Oh man, I love this! We should institute a Dlisted Book Club for Kingaloonies!!

I have seen more of the movies than read the books. In high school I liked Sleepwalkers for comedica value. I got the same enjoyment out of the more recent movie with the alien ass worms. hee hee hee. Immature, I know.

You're right, it was written in the 70's, and he requested it himself because he didn't want it to influence anyone, or make it seem as though he condoned that sort of violence. School shootings were just as bizarre and alien as the Tommyknockers or Pennywise, which is why he wrote it. King's genius lies in taking something very mundane and ordinary, and turning it into something completely supraextraordinary. Which, at the time, school shootings were. He didn't ever want any of his work to be connected to anything like that, or known because of that, the way "Catcher In the Rye" did.

Ah, then I revoke the last part of my previous statement. That is completely understandable. But, like I said, it's not as if King really expected such a thing to happen. If I'm not mistaken the book was written back in the 70s and nothing like that had ever happened. It's very, very sad and unfortunate.

You know, I'm not sure, because my copy of "The Bachman Books" has a printing error in it. Is the very last chapter supposed to say that he started to run after he felt the hand on his shoulder? I ask because after that point, my copy has a repeat of the last 20 pages or so. :( He's the last one standing, so I think maybe he kept on going. And Stephen King WOULD have the one from Maine be the winner. ;)

Good point about SK not being afraid to kill off kids. Have you read "Rage"? My "Bachman Books" includes it, but I understand it was stricken from later printings, post-Columbine, since it deals with a high school kid losing his shit and killing a bunch of people in school.
-----
Yeah, that ending always confused me. Then again, the entire premise confused me until someone much wiser than me (my 11th grade english teacher, haha) told me that it's supposed to take place in a world where the Nazis won WWII. No idea if he's right on that or not, but it makes sense.

And no, I haven't been able to find "Rage" anywhere! I've looked in every library because I've heard it's one of the better Bachman books. Unfortch no one wants it around because it hits too close to home with all the school shootings. :( It's unfortunate. I remember reading that the book was partially blamed for Columbine and it made me angry - as if SK REALLY wanted to make that happen.

Completely OffT: I went back to the Hot Slut of the Day thread and was reading through it... apparently no one likes me now because I don't like Michael Phelps. Hehe. Ohhhh well.

Exactly so, that last bit is his mind giving way completely, like when people who have hypothermia are about to die, they feel hot, and take off their clothes? That's the bit about he feels like he can run.

One thing that I admire about SK (not to sound sick and twisted, even though I will) is that he's NOT afraid to kill off children in his books. Many authors and movie directors think that doing so is SUCH a taboo, but a kid dies in a great deal of SK's books [SPOILER: Cujo, Needful Things, Cell, The Stand, etc.) He's always one to go against the grain, though. I admire that.

Random commentary on Stephen King stories going to film:

"The Stand": I was lukewarm about Molly Ringwald. I was okay with Corin Nemec as Harold, but I really didn't buy that his transformation was as dramatic as it was in the book. Gary Sinise was awesome as always. He totally inhabited the role of Stu Redman and made it real. Ray Walston as Glen Bateman was just about perfect, as was Bill Fagerbakke (?) as Tom Cullen, and Matt Frewer as Trashcan Man (although Trash is quite a bit younger in the book). The guy who played Flagg--his name is escaping me--was good, but his HEAD was so enormous it kept distracting me. I'll still re-watch this about once a year.

"The Mist": This one creeped me out big-time. I think it's mainly the scene [SPOILER] where the young hometown-boy soldier is stabbed and turned out of the store. The way he's crying and pleading gets to me. And the haunting Dead Can Dance music at the end...*bruh*

"The Shining": an oldie but a goodie. Can't help but wonder why they changed it from the book, though. Why did the cook have to die?

I used to think that movies made of Stephen King stories seemed to have a craptastic curse on them, but "Carrie" holds up over time, as does "Christine," I think. One of the actors from "Christine" (he played Don Vandenberg, the redhaired member of the bully gang) posts on a horror-movie forum I read and is very interesting to talk to.

I kind of wish they could make a movie of "The Long Walk" (short story from "The Bachman Books") but realize it's probably too potentially gory, and I don't think moviegoers are ready to watch a bunch of teenage boys being executed. But the story is very good and has great character development, tension, all that.

I also think "Rose Madder" would make a great movie, if handled properly, as would "Insomnia," one of my favorites.

I can't even look at a picture of this creep. He is sooooo gross. He totally looks like a pedo.
