Throw The Book At Her!
20-year-old Heidi Dalibor of Grafton, Wisconsin was arrested earlier this month over a couple of library books. No, she didn't stick them in her cooter in the middle of the library. She just forgot to turn them in before their due date.
Two cops came to Heidi's door and arrested her for not paying her overdue library fees, ignoring numerous phone calls and not showing up to court. They handcuffed her, took her down to the station and then fingerprinted and photographed her.
Isn't it a lovely mug shot? She looks so happy! She's probably thinking, "I better try and look cheer for this shit, because I know this is going to end up on The Smoking Gun."
Heidi's mother had to pay $172 to get her out of jail. Heidi also had to pay $30 for the two overdue paperbacks.
So what two books did Heidi go to jail for? Heidi checked out Janet Finch's "White Oleander" and Dan Brown's "Angels & Demons." Embarrassing! Although, if that was me, it would have been over a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book and "Dazzle" by Judith Krantz.
And books are dangerous! This is why I don't read books that often, because they get you into trouble!

I think libraries are among the 7 wonders. The Arts always take the first hit from republican war mongers. They take away the equivolent to one F15 and the Library System, PBS, High School Bands, etc...all suffer.

To anyone who thinks library fines are a bad thing, do the world a favor & pull your head out of your ass. Libraries are notoriously underfunded & depend on any stream of revenue they can to offer the services they do. When you register for a library card you enter into an agreement with the library & one of the things you agree to is to return things LENT to you on time. If you can't hold up your end of the deal, you should expect consequences, although being arrested is a bit extreme.
Oh & to the person who returned books in a branch of NYPL thinking items from Queens were from the same system, your ignorance is the problem, not their policy.

Am I really reading this? This is too funny and she'll have a record now and when applying for a job she has to state yes I have record it'll follow her for life... I hate libraries and I hate librarians they're creepy and bitchy and lick their fingers while turning pages and stare at you with those creepy bifocals..libraries are evil.
I always took books and never gave them back. I stole about 3 or 4 that were about the Ancient Egyptians and a bunch of Goosebumps books. The librarian must have been pretty stupid, though, because I never got a notice.

While I was awaiting jury duty, the case being heard concerned a dog license. The owner did not license her dog. The city sent her 18(!) notices to license her dog. She ignored them all. The city attorney then filed charges against her. She ignored the court summons. The judge issued a bench warrant. When she finally had her day in court she had to pay $2 for the dog license, $10 in late fees, and a whopping $100 for contempt of court.
Moral of the story: Don't fuck with a court summons, judges don't like it.

My library (the NY Public Library) lets you renew your materials ONLINE so you don't even have to go in to renew. And they're pretty lenient about stuff if you explain. Like I swore up and down that I had returned something and they didn't charge me. Later I found the book and paid up, though. Libraries need money! They are always the first to get their budgets cut and they provide MANY services.
University of Texas has a WING in my name from all the overdues and parking tickets. It is now known fondly as DebFrmHell Hall...
