I can't back that up, actually. Authors?...Actors, maybe...except that, sometimes when you accept a role it comes with a whole lot of education about the subject at hand - which can give an actor some bonafide (that's a word, right? fucking spellcheck - help me!!!) expertise.

Not all performers are complete fools and some of them actually have something valid to say - what's even better is that they (should) have developed an eloquence and charm to say them.

I embraced her from the beginning of her career in the early 80s up until just a few short years ago, which was right about the time she began to inexplicably revel in her own self-promotion. She was no longer the fun party girl; instead, she became a hard, humorless egomaniac driven by a seemingly single-minded and desperate attempt to shore up her declining relevance and popularity.

She could have eased into yet another re-invention of herself which would have retained her dignity as a mature adult; however, she's chosen to re-heat and serve up the leftovers of the same stuff she had created for her nearly twenty years ago. And it doesn't sit well for many of us former fans.

It has nothing to do with jealousy or hate. It's more like the feeling you get watching your 50 year-old uncle trying to hit on young women while wearing a side-tilted Yankees cap, Dior sunglasses, a chinstrap beard, and an Ed Hardy t-shirt. It just makes you cringe.

Despite living in Cardiff, I avoid her tour like the plague. I didn't even see it advertised here, which is a relief.

The woman is a hypocrite. The barefaced cheek of her lecturing and preaching leaves me astounded!

Madonna went on stage at Live Earth & preached to viewers to "save the planet" by being greener - yet she herself produces more than 100 times the average amount of waste produced by Britons in a year!

Madonna's carbon footprint is dwarfed only by her ego - she vowed to'speak to the planet' at Wembley. In fact, an apology was in order!

The 45 concerts are expected to generate more than 1,635 tons of carbon pollution in travel alone.

The emissions generated by the singer's tour are equivalent to that created by 160 Britons in an entire year and equal to the emissions generated by leaving a standard 100 watt lightbulb on for about 4,000 years.

She will fly to 37 venues for the Sticky & Sweet tour in just under four months, transporting a team of 250. The string of 45 concert dates starts in Cardiff tonight.

Environmental experts calculated that by flying between concerts in Europe and then the United States, Madonna will rack up 95 tons of carbon in her private jet alone.

According to website Carbonfootprint.com, her 250 staff would generate 1,080 tons flying on commercial planes. There would be 460 tons of carbon from her heavy cargo.

Among the 250 personnel who will travel with her to every event are nine wardrobe assistants, 12 seamstresses, a 12-piece band, a chiropractor, personal trainer, masseuse, 16 caterers and around 100 technicians and dancers.

Four large freezers will also be constantly on hand to carry ice packs to soothe the aches and pains of Madonna and her dancers.

Thirty wardrobe trunks will be transported to each venue containing the singer's massive wardrobe which is made up of more than 3,500 items.

While Madonna's carbon output will be vast, experts fears it will be dwarfed by the amount created by fans who travel to the shows.

John Buckley from Carbonfootprint.com said: 'This is a massive amount of carbon emissions even for a top celebrity icon.

'However, these emissions will be swamped by those caused by the crowds of concertgoers.'

Although Madonna has a history of speaking on behalf of conservation and environmental causes, she has not allowed that to curtail the demands of her elaborate stage shows.

In July last year, she headlined the Live Earth concert in London to promote climate change despite having a carbon footprint for that year estimated at 1,018 tons. The average Briton produces ten tons of carbon a year.

On stage at Live Earth, Madonna told the audience: 'If you want to save the planet, I want you to start jumping up and down.' She also told fans she was 'talking to the planet'.
