Got Milk!
The trailer for "Milk" is here and it's pretty evident that Sean Penn will get nominated for one of those gold statue things. The film is based on the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man elected to political office. It was directed by Gus Van Zant. Hopefully, "Milk" will redeem Gus for that "Pyscho" fiasco. Casting Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates was just criminal.
"Milk" also stars James Franco, Josh Brolin, Diego Luna, Emile Hirsch and Victor Garber. Victor Garber! I mean, bell bottoms, terry cloth shorts and Victor Garber? I'm in.

Brilliant comment. As a high school junior/senior in those years -- yeah, I'm old -- you can only imagine how interesting things were, coming from a fairly sheltered family background. My parents were fairly liberal, but even this context seemed a little surreal. Throw in the Son of Sam killings, the New York power outage and it's flirtation with bankruptcy, and the drinking age at 18...
It was an interesting time.

I love Harvey Milk and I'm so happy someone is finally doing a film about him.
Did you know White assasinated Milk? White was an annoying little white man who was upset his way of life was disappearing in San Fran. If he'd stuck around a few more years, Bush probably would have pardoned him and made him VP. We know how much the crazy Republicans love to appoint whackies like this!!!!!!!!
White also assasinated Mayor Mascone and launched the "twinkie defense"-said too much junk food and sugar made him do it.
The good people of San Fran used to wear buttons saying "Off White" after his conviction which was only garnered him a 7 year sentence with parole after five years. After being release from prison, White killed himself.
Before you all ask why I know all this, I love this period of history in San Fran-the People's Temple and Jim Jones, Reverend Moon doing the massive wedding, Milk, the rise of the porn industry and the killing of the two sex performers on the piano at Carol Doda's...an interesting time in America's history, before California was all about real estate values.

Looks like a good film on its own merit but if it manages to make even one of those Family Value Fascist types in the Westboro Baptist Church or any of the followers of Fred Phelps think, it is well worth it.

Why is Josh Brolin in every other GD movie. Could it be his relation to Hollywood royalty? Even so, this film will be brilliant.

Wow, looks like a great movie. That Sean Penn really is a great actor. I loved him in 'Taps', 'Bad Boys' 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' and so many others. He is equally adept at doing comedies as well as dramas. One caveat though: I wish he and a lot of the other Hollyweirdos (Sarandon, Robbins, and even my buddy Clooney) would stick more to the acting and stop with the espousing on how much the U.S.A. sucks. "Hey bud, let's party!" (Jeff Spicoli, FTaRH) That is all.

Gilber Grape was the first movie role I ever saw Leo in and I was CONVINCED he was a real "special" person.
It wasn't till I saw Basketball Diaries that I realized he was normal.
Didn't he play another "special" person in Marvin's Room?
