Travis Barker And DJ AM Expected To Make A Full Recovery

Dr. Fred Mullins of the Augusta, GA's Joseph Still Burn Center held a press conference this morning to give an update on Travis Barker and DJ AM's injuries from Friday's plane crash that killed 4 people.

Dr. Fred said the two are expected to make a "full recovery." He said they both suffered second and third degrees burns. He added that it can take up to a year to recover from such burns but the two didn't suffer any other type of injuries. He went on to say that Travis was burned on his torso. DJ was burned on his hands and part of his head. Dr. Fred would not say what percentage of their bodies were burned or if they were conscious. He also said they should be able to return to performing once they have recovered.

Given the circumstances, this is good news.

During the press conference, Dr. Fred read a statement from the families:

The families wish to thank fans from all over the world for their prayers and concern. Deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of those who perished in the crash. As the two recuperate and mourn this loss, privacy for them, their families and friends is requested at this time.

Hey Tigerlilly, I live further south past Savannah and I pass through your area on my annual trip to the casino in NC... I'll pick you up and we can have a road trip! I promise I'll get a real license plate for my car (rather than my sharpie handwritten cardboard "tag applied for" sign).

I really wonder how HIPAA law applies to press conferences regarding the health of celebrities.

And, it would be swell of these guys, once they recover, to make some sort of donation to the families of the deceased, or to a charity in the deceased's names.

aww dustbunny, i hope you find a good home for the kitty! Ok i'm done commenting now, I just have add and don't get all these read at first, i have to read over them several times! Poor kitty!!!!!

Rosemary's picture

Oh and bless you Putas, sorry for so many comments lol, forgot to write that in the other comment. I love animal people too. You guys can see that though I guess with my picture. I even have a Liscense plate with a golden retriever on it =) don't understand people who don't, animals never harm us, at least not purposely (sharks etc might), they are so innocent and dogs esp only want to please us. People hurt us all the time, why would anyone want to hurt a dog or cat , etc???? All I can figure is you have to be a control freak and think oh i can get away with it cause they can't fight back.

Rosemary's picture

and btw Putas, I HATE PEOPLE LIKE THAT! May that neighbor or ex neighbor of yours with the cat burn in hell!

Rosemary's picture

Wow I live in Ga maybe two hours from augusta and am a Nicole fan and watched meet the barkers should I go bring flowers to the hopsital?

dustbunny's picture

I just snapped some pictures of the poor cat. Someone poured all this dry cat food on the sidewalk and dumped him out of the car. We already have a number of feral outdoor cats in the neighborhood. But by just looking at him you can tell he is an outsider. He doesn't match any of the others. I'm hoping to get in touch with a rescue group, since he is too friendly to be allowed to go wild.

I also wondered about that.

Another thing I was wondering about was, when these two are done healing, are they going to feel comfortable enough with themselves and how they look to go out and perform again anyway? Especially DJ AM. I guess that's a really long time in the future.

I'm not a fan of either one of those guys, but I'm glad to know that they're going to recover.

im suprised they made it out alive

The reason we care about what happens to people we 'know' is that we are suppose to love our neighbors as ourselves. Unless you are truly heartless, what happened to them should make us feel their pain right down to our souls. We are all ONE and what matters in the end is our well being. All the best to these two guys and speedy recovery. God bless.

paris herpes's picture

I wonder if they could laser off those stupid tats Travis Barker has...hey, I was like holy crap they're in the hospital before...but these guys are not even that famous really. Unless you count Travis and his little tryst with Paris...and wait, don't you see the connection, these guys both were linked with Paris AND Nicole...damn no wonder their plane went down, it was fate!

Your face!

I'm not familiar with either of these guys but I hope they both make a full recovery and they experience as LITTLE pain and suffering as possible.

I have a family member who suffered 3rd degree burns to 35% of his body and it took years and many MANY surgeries to make him well again.

@anastasia

Personally, I find it strange at the lenghts people will go to for speculation. Such as the whole "she was in labor, that's why they took a jet" thing which was completely false.

_________________________________

That WASN'T speculation. It was reported as truth, but of course wasn't. That's what, for me, pushed my sensitivity buttons. I didn't really notice the speculation. I did notice observations such as, when it was initially thought that Travis was burnt from the waste down, that could affect his ability to play drums. I guess I just didn't analyze it that closely. I can only speak for myself, but when I was away yesterday, I didn't carry it with me. As I said before, it's not in our hands. But just like fictional reading, while reading it, it's natural to emote, for me anyway. I just don't judge either way, if someone feels deeply about it, okay. If not, okay. For some it brought back memories of personal experiences. We're all different. Isn't that the point of a blog? For individuals to express themselves and their opinions. It doesn't affect me how others feel, and emotion isn't always easily controlled. And frankly, as I mentioned before, our well wishes won't change anything for them.

I didn't chastise anyone for not feeling. I don't think it's fair to chastise anyone who does.

Oh, and thanks. I don't consider myself well written, just an opinionated blogger that over expresses herself. :P

I hope they recover and feel better...poor guys.

Again, as a survivor of a massive illness/hospitalizaton these guys have alot ahead of them. They will be in pain for a long time. Someone will have to help them/take care of them. It is the rare, and I mean RARE individual who has the capacity and sensitivity to help them. And that includes nurses, doctors, family and friends. Most, yes MOST, will abandond them. Second thought, maybe not since they have money. But anyway, there will be emotional abuse. There will be verbal abuse. Life is not kind to those who are ill.

All I can say is: thank God!! It's still really, really sad about Chris though. Someone up there must really love Travis and DJ AM. What a tragedy.

Hey speakit, I was on all the threads as well (I've been up sick all day and night) but didn't comment as much as you and others. But I think that pretty much everyone would agree with your last statement, and you definately are well written. On the same note, I think that some people were getting tired of the sometimes overly empathatic who were crying and interrupting their lives for this. I could be wrong, but that's what I got.
Personally, I find it strange at the lenghts people will go to for speculation. Such as the whole "she was in labor, that's why they took a jet" thing which was completely false. And some dlisters just kept adding and adding to the speculation. For example, someone was saying what THEY thought that each would do career wise now, such as-AM will probably go into more behind the scenes production stuff. This is the kind of stuff I find so ridiculous.
Let me add that I don't follow these two and will not start, but still an unfortunate thing.

Hysteria's picture

America has become a culture of celebrity. taken to an extreme, the result can be unfortunate. for example, Sarah Palin being viewed as a viable presidential candidate.

OT: crashes are horrible. burns really, really hurt bad.

DebFrmHell's picture

Suffering from burns is the most painful injury I can think of and the recovery time is long and difficult. I feel sorry for anyone having to go thru it...even these guys.

Well spoken. However, I swear, anymore, I am just kind of numb about stuff.

speakit's picture

On a personal note, 'celebrity' doesn't mean anything to me. They are flesh and blood, just like me. I don't idolize them, I hold them at the same standards as anyone else, so I don't believe they deserve extra empathy. At the same time, I don't really understand being devoid of empathy because they're celebrities. A human suffering is a human suffering.

A lot of people related because of their experiences with burn victims or as a burn victim. I just don't see compassion ever being a negative.

Without media attention, we don't know all of the tragedies, so when we're exposed to it, I think it's human nature to feel emotion when the details are drawn out. Everyone is different but I didn't get the impression that people were being empathetic BECAUSE they are celebrities.

Mickey Anonymouse's picture

I truly wish them a speedy recovery and best of health (so I can start calling them douchebags again).

speakit's picture

I was there for all the threads. I don't remember anyone getting emotional except when the aspect of Chris's (who died) wife going into labor when he died trying to get to her came up, which wasn't true anyway. Chris wasn't a celeb so that doesn't apply.

In the first thread about the accident, many voiced the same thing, including myself. It's a horrible tragedy, but blink.. another one just happened. Others voiced their frustration at celebrity tragedy somehow overshadowing other tragedies. It is stupid but it seems to be the American media way.

Bondagebarbie's picture

Thats great news,I am so happy for them and their families

PSL, that story doesn't surprise me one bit. Wow, she would cut her own mother if it meant something was in it for her. She and Paris belong together.

ps: Not hating on these two. Sorry if I gave that impression. I'm just pointing out my lack of empathy for celebs when shit like that happens every hour of every day to regular folks. And I'm sorry about the dead pilots.

Good news. Yes!

And to the animal/kitty savers, I love you! I was heartbroken when our neighbors (who had too many cats to properly care for, I asked to take one off of their hands as they seemed oblivious) moved and left behind one of their outdoors cats. I would h ear him mewing at the empty house, it was pitiful. He didn't know they moved as he went off for days sometimes. I finally took him in (wily little guy that was hard) and got him a place to live (AFTER tracking her down at her job and asking her if they planned to get him. She seemed irritated and put out. NICE) Agh. People who abandon animals have a special spot in hell.

Funny thought came to my mind: Travis has so many tattoos and I guess some of it is lost now. I know, he should be glad that he survived the crash and not think about the body art, but I have a tattoo with immense personal meaning and if that burnt, it would be like a part of me died...
