Tina Fey Is Back For More

Tina Fey once again put on a pair of rimless glasses to play the hockey mom from Alaska Sarah Palin on last night's SNL. This time, Amy Poehler played the blink-happy and glossy-lipped Katie Couric. I didn't realize how blinky Katie was during the Palin interview until Amy pointed it out last night. Seriously. Katie needs to bathe her eyeballs in Visine. And when is Amy going to play Cindy McCain already?! She can hide her baby bump with a medicine cabinet. I'm waaaitttting...

Above is the always amazing Tina Fey once again stealing the show. Although, that's not hard to do. The rest of SNL was....well.....I already blacked it out.

Oh and Bono IS the King of Ireland!

Just because you hide behind the very transparent "conservative economics" doesn't mean we are blind.
You can claim being "liberal" in some areas but HAVING READ what you have been posting ALL DAY HERE, that you support, as in are agreeing with, promoting, etc..., is the GOP agenda.

The perspective of even seeing it as punishment is a choice. Perhaps what you're paying is the full, normal tax rate. Why should those who struggle to keep up with bills and the basics of life not get a discount to help stabilize themselves?"

Did you actually just say my opinion is a choice? Let's not get totally fukken gay here, mmkay? Jeez... ;)

And in my humble opinion, when I see somebody who is "struggling" yet they have a satellite dish, a laptop, an expensive cell phone etc....I don't feel much sympathy.

And people with kids do get a tax break. Just for 2 though so tell those trailer and ghetto types that if they have 6 or 8 kids, they don't get a tax break for all of them! Just saying!
I say that partially from a moral perspective, but more from a business perspective. At this stage of my company I can only afford to pay $10/hour to the freelancers who help me. It's not much, but last year I could only afford 1 worker - me. Next year, I anticipate being able to increase what I pay slightly, and bring on another person. If I, as the owner of an unprofitable (I break even) company, were responsible for taxes at the same level as a major corporation, I'd probably never grow to a major corporation. I may never do that, but I'll get a lot closer by not being taxed through the nose as I'm trying to grow.
how would you feel if the federal government forced you to pay $18 an hour to a worker?

"If you have a nation of people where the largest portion can't afford to keep up with the costs of housing, education (to get a better job), and basics like food and clothing, who do you expect to sustain those at the top? If a tax discount gives those people a bit more help, what's unfair?"

The largest portion can keep up with the cost of housing, if there isn't a bubble and they don't take bad loans.

And if you can really point to a household that can't get food, well, I want to see those morons.

"Grocery stores sell more food, stores sell more clothes, and you have a middle class that can afford to continue supporting the products that the upper class owns, produces, invests in and sells. Henry Ford did quite well by making sure his workers could afford the product he was making. It didn't break him, it made him one of the richest men of his time."

That was a specific point in history. I do admire starbucks in that they offer health insurance to even part timers. That's great. companies should be socialist in that way, but NOT the government.

"If lowering takes for certain people ensures they can continue to support the economy, local schools, law enforcement, etc. do you believe that doesn't help the country grow as a whole?"

Lower taxes for me is on principle. I support smaller government, period. If some social services get cut, so be it.

Good night all, I'm going to coco- cococa-bed!

No bile, just an opinion, dude.

The war won't go on forever and it seems you'd just take the money we're spending on the war and chuck it at failing public schools and other silly things. I don't think you are grasping the fact that the bigger the government, the more corruption and the more waste.

We don't need a government with a several trillion dollar budget to keep the roads safe.

However, I do value national security so money spent securing our interests around the globe are usually dollars well spent.

I favor cutting most of our aid to foreign countries, getting rid of the FCC and the IRS, implementing a small flat tax supported by comsumption and luxury taxes, and scrapping all public school taxes.

But I've actually thought about these issues.

Fandango and most of aquarius, I rather pay those taxes then have our government currently function the way it has been, all the tax money goes to the war in Iraq and not much else. Social programs, education and the prospect of universal health care have been so severely cut out of our system that now we're paying for this deficit of services hardcore now with nowhere to go but suffer so that rich people can have even more that everybody else (because of those tax cuts). I thought this was supposed to be an equalized society but it NEVER has been, that was mere utopian thinking by our founding fathers. I don't expect to be able to buy a bunch of Gucci dresses and 300 pairs of shoes either, but at least have some of the same social services and options that other countries have for their citizens. Instead we have a social system that barely works and puts more people out into the cold because they can't afford to PAY for EVERY SINGLE SERVICE that in the end should be entitled to us if the government REALLY CARES about its own citizens. I mean honestly, we should be ashamed of ourselves if we don't expect more from this supposed "great country" of ours. Sorry you guys hit a nerve! Sometimes I wish I could move outta here and go somewhere that actually cares about my health and well-being.

Your face!

Yes, I do. Do you?

The government needs a certain amount of money in order to function properly. It is currently SEVERELY underfunded, which is why the war in Iraq is being added to our national debt instead of being paid for by taxpayer funds. The point was, if EVERYONE -- particularly the wealthy -- gets a tax cut, the government is going to have less money than it does now. It is not functioning well at the moment (see: the economy, infrastructure, educational systems, et. al.) and stripping the government of even more money via tax cuts (which worked SO WELL for Bush during the last 8 years) is not going to fix things!

If you are cool driving over bridges that need to be rebuilt or repaired and sending your kids to schools that can't afford textbooks or toilet paper, then yeah, I'm sure you don't want to pay more taxes. I, personally, can't afford to build all the roads, bridges, and schools myself, but I still need to use them ... which is just one of the many reasons why we pay taxes."

Higher taxes = more waste. Or did you miss that memo?

You're a big government dupe.

Fandango's picture

Submitted by aquarius on September 28, 2008 - 3:46pm.
Another point: Obama, McCain, Palin, and Biden are all rich. The Obama/Biden ticket wants to raise taxes on the rich -- meaning they'll both be paying more taxes. The McCain/Palin ticket wants to cut its own taxes. Now, which ones are the whiny crybabies again? "Waaaahhh, my taxes went up 4 percent, I'm going to have to sell my 7th house!"

When you actually get off your fat ass and get a job, maybe you'll appreciate lower taxes. Go eat 29 more Krispy Kremes.

Here's the thing - most people who make over $250K/year aren't doing so by climbing the corporate ladder. It's from inheritances, investments, businesses they own, properties and a diverse set of sources that most middle class people don't have.

Within that diversity come a lot of breaks. I own a small corporation - small being me and a few freelancers. My company is given far more breaks than an individual would get. If you have a bad year, you don't get to carry losses over. If I have a bad quarter, my company (and thousands of others) does. I stopped investing in stocks a while back, but had I continued, those investments (and returns) are taxed at a different rate than personal income. Own a property and rent it out? Much lower tax rate.

My point is, people who are successful as you refer to it, are already well diversified so that an increase on their personal income really wouldn't affect their lifestyle or ability to make more money. I don't actually disagree with your point that it's not completely fair, but 45% to someone worth $3million is going to effect them far less than someone making $30K/year"

It still doesn't make it fair to punish them because they are successfully raking in dough.

Joseph R. and Jill T. Biden joint tax return

Total income: $319,853 ($71,000 income from royalties from his book; $66,546 - Jill Biden's teaching job; $20,500 - Joe Biden's teaching job; $161,708 - Joe Biden's Senate salary)

AMT: $2,721

Deductions: $26,516 in state/local/real estate taxes; $38,712 home mortgage interest; $995 "Gifts to Charity"

Interest: $99 from various sources
(According to his financial disclosure form filed with the Senate, he also received a $112,500 book advance from Random House and he donated $1,025 in honoraria from TV personalities David Letterman and Bill Maher to charity)"

If he's not, it's on purpose... the average salary of a U.S. Senator was $165K per year in 2006. The VP makes more than $200K per year in salary alone. To not be paying more in taxes under Obama's plan, he'd have to have no investments and no other income -- which, for someone making $165K per year, is pretty rare.

Talk about stupid that asshole McCain thinks Spain is located in Latin America. That's to be expected from a fuckwad who's unaware of how many homes he owns but he's probably not too sure of the WhiteHose exact location either.
