Mary Cherry is one of the funniest characters on TV. Period. Shame Popular was a great show. They always cancel the good ones. Check out her in the episode 'Caged'. Hilarious.

I LOVED Popular the first season. It was SO f*cking funny! Then in the second season, they went and got it canceled by morphing it into a drama to compete with the O.C.

This bitch (both of them, actually) was a full-tilt riot. "Popular" was to teen soaps what "Jawbreaker" is to teen movies. There was no pretense of being real or even terribly redeeming. All the kids looked like they were in their mid-30s, the characters were wildly-overdrawn caricatures, the plots were manic, and the universe it was set was pure parody. "Dawson's Creek" and "90210" always wanted to be relevant and socially-conscious even though their makers knew the series were just junk at heart, but "Popular" was proud to be a wacky cartoon.

I still miss this show, it was great and ahead of it's time. Mary and her momma, perfectly played by Delta Burke, were funny characters. Lotsa clips on youtube, especially Gay Wenty doing jazzhands.
