Jenny McCarthy Just Exploded

Denis Leary is an asshole and he knows it. He loves it. So anything that comes out of his mouth, I just slather it between two pieces of white bread and throw it in the pile with his other shit sandwiches. Here's Denis' latest shit sandwich from his new book Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid:

"There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't give a [bleep] what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - yer kid is NOT autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both."

The Autism Society of American issued this statement in response:

"For Mr. Leary to suggest that families or doctors conspire to falsely diagnose autism is ridiculous . . . [His] remarks reflect the same misconceptions of autism being caused by bad or unemotional parenting that were held over 50 years ago."

Denis really knows how to take his point and wrap it in a big box of vomit.

Once Jenny McCarthy pieces herself together from exploding, she's going to explode again. Once she's done with that, she's going to rip Denis to shreds. And I hope it's on live television.

Social interaction is crucial. I think the more I'm alone, the more ground I lose socially and quite frankly I've been alone for a very long time. I found that I've lost a lot of the progress I've made. My mother is starting to notice it saying that I'm having alot of trouble even communicating with her.

The first step is recognizing it, and you have so make sure you do something about it and not let it slip away! :-)

Some people are just assholes. If a child is so ill that they cannot even make eye contact and they are having an episode in a store where they are spinning (which many autistic kids do), the last thing an overwhelmed parent needs to hear is a comment about controlling their kid. But, people see fit to make that sort of statement. There's a difference between a bratty kid and a kid who is ill. You'd think people would have enough brains to know the difference.

Asperbger's is an interesting syndrome. Augusten Burrows' brother has it and he's a full on genius. So are others with it from what I have read.
-----------------------------------------------

I work with kids with autism, and Dennis Leary can be added to the list of sad, ignorant people who just like the sound of their own voice. Spend 1 minute with a person with autism, and he would see it differently. He wouldn't admit he was wrong, but he'd know.

Also, not everyone with Aspergers or autism are savants. Rainman made people think for a long time that people with autism are geniuses at something, but in reality only about 10% of people under the autism spectrum are savants.

God, my heart not only breaks for you, but also for my teenage son that has Aspergers because you probably just gave me the insight that goes on in his head at times that he can't/won't tell me about

Mrs.Kravitz's picture

Asperger’s Syndrome has recently been the center of much attention; the disorder was reported in 1944 by physician Hans Asperger, at around the same time autism was being discovered. It was not until 1994 however, that Asperger’s Syndrome was added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), in its fourth edition. Before then, many individuals with the syndrome went undiagnosed, or were misdiagnosed with either Attention Deficit Disorder, or other similar disorders (Kirby). The disorder is characterized by severe impairment in social faculties, particularly in recognition of social or emotional cues (empathy), and in social or emotional reciprocity. Often, individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome desire social interaction, but are unable to perform socially due to this deficit in interpreting subtle and unwritten social rules. Often individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome will excel in one particular intellectual subject, which they pursue with abnormal intensity and focus. In adults with the disorder, a lifetime of social retardation can lead to withdrawal from social situations, focussing on their work.

I know what it's like to have no friends. On the one hand, I like being alone. You see, I consider myself to be an aspiring writer, and being able to work uninterrupted is crucial to me and I'm told that I can be quite difficult when ever someone does barge in, but that doesn't mean that I always want to be alone and that I don't sometimes crave company. I look at other people living their lives, having friends and relationships and I feel so left out and it's incredibly depressing. Whenever I'm around people I can do small talk sometimes, I've learned to do that, I can't create any lasting relationships, and there's that feeling of , okay where did I go wrong. That's the most horrible feeling in the world especially when I've gotten so tired of being alone.

I DO agree though, that some parents may just have a socially different child or a spoiled brat who doesnt follow directions and go to a doctor PUSHING for some sort of defect. Like theres No possible way that they could raise their precious little lambs to be a monster or a weirdo. It has to be the children's fault.

Mrs K, good luck. I am going through the same thing. The stray that I fed dropped off two kittens because like Jamie Lynn she done got knocked up again. I took them in and my old guys are unhappy. The town I live in has a by law that limits us to two cats (even though mine never go outside) so I am waiting for the knock on the door as I am but a common criminal and have crossed over into Cat-Lady domain.

I can see were people think ADD/ADHD is overly diagnosed because there are meds that are prescribed for it. (the quick fix answer for everything)

The funny thing is that for everyone that thinks Autism, Aspergers and the spectrums are over diagnosed, there are no meds that are prescribed. You actually have to work harder as a parent to integrate your child into what "society" defines as the norm
I agree with you 200%

Bitingontinfoil's picture

La cooc: so what if sh*t is being over diagnosed, so what if some kids who are being treated arent really sick.....

Are you freakin' kidding me??

#1. If kids are being treated (ie: medicated) for illnesses they DON'T HAVE that's a problem! It also stops from address whatever *real* issue the kid has

#2. He wasn't blaming the kids - he was blaming the parents who use these "fashion illnesses" as a crutch for poor parenting and the fact the kids are left with nannies, cooks and basic strangers.

YEESH!

Leary Rocks!

I don't think that's true that theres no cure. My next door neighbors have 5 year old autistic twins and they have had special tutors and teachers .....from what i understand they are overcoming the autism. I think its totally possible with the right education. My cousin has a 13 year old son with autism who is also doing quite well.
I think a child can learn to live with Autism but not be cured as such. When I watched the show ( Oprah) I just had the biggest gut feeling of there's something "not right" or "off" with her son's diagnosis. My son has Aspergers and I swear my mother said to me "I don't know how you haven't killed him (out of frustration) by now, if he was my son I wouldn't have coped." Having to cut food into equal portions, showering him fully clothed (kicking and screaming), lining up any objects of the same type or size, any object attached to a cord lined up all around the house and then the end plugged into the socket-including one day the hot iron, I could go on but to me there was just nothing concrete to back up her claims- hey maybe I'm overdiagnosing her lol

My neighbors with Autistic twin boys said the same thing. Their boys were fine for most of the first year of their life and then after the shots they changed. They swear it was the vaccinations too.

I have two with autism and it is not incorrectly diagnosed, over-diagnosed, or mis-diagnosed. There is simply more of it now, including geographic clusters in my very own state, and there has got to be something more going on.

However, for the vast majority, it's more comforting to blame the autism on parents or genetics than to think there is something harmful in vaccinations we've all be indoctrinated to give, or in food additives, or chemical byproducts in water or air, or pollution. Yeah, that's more comforting.

Even today psychiatry still places way too much of the blame on mothers. It's so disgusting the bias is allowed to exist. You cannot win. Anyhoo, I cannot imagine what it is like to raise a human, being much less one with special needs.
I do know that my friend's nephew and his wife are medicating their son (6 years old) who has been diagnosed with ADHD. The mom is an alcoholic who cannot keep a job. There is no discipline or consistency in the home. The kid is a mess, acts out all the time, gets "written up" in school and after school care constantly, he's repeating kindergarten because of his poor social skills, and all they are doing is medicating him. Clearly the problem here is NOT just ADHD, if at all.
