HoHan Say What?
Above is a little clip of HoHan looking like a 50-year-old methadone clinic reject during an interview with Maria Menounos on Access Hollywood tonight. I played the first part at least a hundred times. As someone pointed out on ONTD, it kind of sounds like HoHan mumbled, "it's our first colored president." I blame the trash teachings of White Oprah.
Play it for yourself. I tried to figure out what else she could be saying, but nothing came up.
This fuckery reminds of some dude who recently said to me, "You're part Oriental, right?" I felt like saying, "Yeah, my dad is. He's really a nice rug. You should visit him sometime. He's currently for sale in the clearance section at fucking Bombay Company."
Thanks Syd

Wow. Not that I thought she was the shining beacon of human rights, but wow. Sounds like she's even embarrassed to be saying it. Her voice drops like an octave and a decibel at the same time.
What is that about? She couldn't think of the right word? She thought this was a private conversation? The look on the interviewers face is priceless.

Have you ever heard the term 'Black Irish'?
My dad was that way. The myth I heard is they're descended from Moors who were shipwrecked or landed in the south of Ireland. I'm pretty sure that's why my parents lovingly called me the black sheep of the family.
I am a Latina of German Jewish,Haitian and Spanish Ancestry. No one believes me when i tell them i wasnt even born in this country and its funny at times when people speak spanish and they think i cant understand them. Oh kiddies we are all a bunch of mixed nuts.
Reminds me of a job years back, walking past the receptionist who had just gotten the ripping of her life for calling a client (she had forgotten who she had spoken to) and asked to speak to "That guy that sounds Oriental".
flatsy - yes my bf's mom is "blac irish".. she has dark hair and dark eyes and has 100% irish heritage... as opposed to the more common fair haired red or blonde irish

Missy, I guess we have a nice ethnic & religious mix around here.
Have you ever heard the term 'Black Irish'? People have called me that before and I'm not sure what to make of it. I have dark hair and light blue eyes. DK.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think this term derives from those of Irish ancestry who have darker looks than the typical pale, red haired, Irish prototype. See WiseGeek:
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-black-irish.htm
BTW, Pierce Brosnan referred to himself once as "Black Irish."
that makes sense to me... if someone was identifying me by race id expect "white" not "italian american" because that implies I was born in italy.
Ive never said "black (person)" and been told that its offensive.
I did not understand what she said so I'll give the girl the benefit of the doubt and assume she did not say something stupid and racial.
and for the record...i was not born in africa, i was born in america...if i can't be just american then i prefer the term "black" if i must be labelled...thank you...
oh wow. she definitely said "colored". read her overworked lips. moron.
and why would that interviewer even ask about the elections? i don't give a shit what this hat rack has to say about the political landscape. just spill your guts about doing other chicks, flash a peace sign, and be done with it. that's all anyone wants to see from you, dumbass.
ughh...I can't stand this no-talent whore.
I'm French and Swedish and Jewish people ask me if I'm Jewish now and then. My daughter IS half Jewish (Moroccan-Jew) and sometimes Hispanics come up to her and speak Spanish because they think she's Hispanic. Like I said, it's all confusing. People get mixed up.
To call someone "colored" is not PC by any means. But why hasn't the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) undergone a name change. It was established early in the 20th century when "colored" was I guess, acceptable but I'm just curious why no name change. Any ideas out there?
haha flatsy - yeah, never happened to me out here.. what was more funny to me was the fact that a 20 something year old college student had never met a jew!
I guess I could look jewish.. I kinda wish I was jewish! nice family people those jews!
THATS the point. Its not like what she said was horribly offensive; its just that anyone who is polished and well educated would not choose to use that phrase in a television interview.
thats why its funny!
Aww. See. We're not horrible people. I mean, I've definitely been called worse by people who had no interest in what color my skin was. My grandma and father died before I came out, but I like to think my granny would have been ok with it. I knew my father's opinions way too well. He was an alcoholic ex Navy man, but I have a soft spot for little old women.
You're right about the geographic origin but one could say the same thing about Negro. (I think "Negro" technically came into English from Latin--> Portuguese for "black.")
A word used for colour was turned into an offensive word in English simply by the way it was used.
I mean, technically ANY word could be deemed extremely offensive if enough people used it in a derogatory manner towards a specific group of people.
We can send people to outer space yet nobody can get over the fact that we are not all born in the same place and we don't all share the same features.. what a world.
I never lasted very long because I wouldn't sit still and listen to the constant references to 'spooks', 'jigaboo's' and 'moolinyans'.
Wow, I had no idea what all those terms meant or who they could possibly refer to without looking them up. That's a plus, eh? The terms that were so horrible to you aren't even known by the newer generations, definitely some progress.
I agree, why is she relevant to interview???
She's done WHAT in the past few years? Drugs, rehabs, and got passed on down on jobs.
It seems that some people jump at the chance to be offended by something regardless of whether or not any offense was actually intended. I think it's best to focus public scorn on those who are actually bigots and racists.
I agree, it was stupid of her to say, yes...but I don't think any offense should be taken by it.
Diego LOL here's a story you might enjoy. my granny was Scottish, she'd come to visit once every few years. After my parents moved to NYC she was visiting during the gay pride parade in the Village. My Dad's church was passing out water and we lived right on 5th Ave so I decided to take her in her wheelchair. She was a little terrified, but everyone was so nice to her, lifting her wheelchair over the curb etc that by the end she was all "I love teh gay" it was cute.
I didn't know "colored" was on the no-no list. I thought that was a very proper way of referring to Blacks, Indiands, Middle Eastern people, etc. My bad.
its not that the comment was so shocking or racist or offensive, its just a little awkward to hear her use an outdated term.
people from the UK always comment on how americans label anyone with a little black in them as black. I think they call them mixed over there.
Im catholic italian from boston and have a pronounced nose and brown hair and when I moved to michigan for school someone said to me "wow, youre the first jewish person Ive ever met!" HA!
Actually, back when whites called blacks "colored" whites also made it quite clear that if you had any black blood in you - whatever percentage - you were officially black. End of story. That's what the census still says- even today. People who are of mixed parentage are counted as black by us census takers.
She looks old as hell. She said colored and she knew that she shouldn't say it that's why she mumbled it. Don't use his mixed race to rationalize her ignorance, she said what she meant.
I am allergic to ignorance :(
It's offensive to Asians because it was used dismissively, in a Charlie Chan sense, similar to the N-word. You're right about the geographic origin but one could say the same thing about Negro. (I think "Negro" technically came into English from Latin--> Portuguese for "black.")
Oh please someone book her on The View! She definitely needs some anti-itch shampoo, she kept scratching at her head.
Well she definitely looks old enough to remember when ‘coloured’ was an accepted term.
