The Return Of No Doubt

Gwen Stefani is making good on her promise that No Doubt will record a new album and go on tour. I think she made that promise like 3 years ago or some shit, but it's better late than never! On their official website, they posted this picture along with a little iChat conversation between the band members. Basically, they are going to take their shit on the road next year while working on their first album together in seven years. The last time they performed on stage together was in 2004.

Gwen has been busy making babies with funny names, putting out her own albums and working on some fashion shit.

Fuck yes. I can't wait to go to this shit. I just hope there's a bunch of 30-something hos who pay homage to vintage Gwen by wearing zipper pants, furry bra tops, suspenders and Frankenstein boots. Oh and don't forget the rockabilly hair and bindi.

Now if only No Doubt can get Garbage, Alanis Morissette, Joan Osbourne, Paula Cole, Fiona Apple, Tracy Bonham, The Cardigans and Meredith Brooks to perform with them. Actually, I think I went to a show in L.A. in the late 90s where all those bitches performed together. Aw. Those were the days when I was a little homo who really wanted to be an angsty lezzie.

No Doubt, Gwen Stefani can suck it! The main reason she irks me is not so much her music, but the fact that she ALWAYS wears that ridiculous fire-truck red g.d. LIPSTICK!! Plus, she named her latest kid a really, really stupid name. What the fuck?? No Doubt, cadebra1961 thinks Gwen is lame, hehehe!!

Fiona Apple, Garbage and Alanis all at a concert together would be great! Oh and No Doubt of course!

ND performed together in 2006 in Irvine, CA. They surprised the audience at the end of a Gwen Stefani concert. I know, I was there and it was awesome. Using the original meaning of the word awesome. As in unbelievable.

hi girl!
you just made me remember last month me and my BF went to Sephora (bad addiction) and they had all the big bottles of the Harajuku Lovers perfumes. So, since i'm always buying too many perfumes, i grabbed a small "Gwen" one. I believe i payed $35 or something like that. When i got home, all excited, i opened the box and there was a fucking DOLL with one drop of perfume.
that beesh! add it to my list with Ceiling Eyes!

I really enjoyed a couple of No Doubt songs, "Just a Girl" and "Don't Speak".

Gwen did some jamming with Sublime back in the day. The studio version is better, but this live version of "I Saw Red" is pretty decent. And if anybody wants to know what ska sounds like. Here ya go.

@radio_siren: that's how they were sold to us back then too: SkaPunkReggae. I'll give that their (older) sound is very upbeat, but punk? And even if we concede their ska and reggae influences, they will never come even close to The Toots & Maytals! 'Monkey Man' is still one of my favorite 'winter' songs. So much better to wake up to it and to put a little cheer into another dreadful snowy day.

@Teemie: your avie made me go hunt down Youtube for a video of 'Search and Destroy'. The Stooges also are one of my favorite winter sounds.

@Dot: she might be a nice gal deep down and we could all be wrong about the impressions we get. I'd actually hope to be wrong about this, but my spider senses and other reports of her behavior somehow tell me she's indeed too full of herself :(

Because of that, it's so hard for me to not dismiss the band, even though they're not a sh*tty band by any means.

I wish I was less petty at times, I swear!

angel_i: Oh shit, I just reread my post and it looks like I was saying I was irritated at you! I'm sorry, love, it was not directed toward you at all. I've heard their music described for YEARS as punk/ska, and that's what I was talking about. Not you, love!!! And of course, that's the easiest way to categorize it, since it has been described that way for all this time by the media.

Sheeps: Ye-ahhh...it's definitely influenced by ska. I think OC ska is a good way to put it because it does have a California mentality to it.

Oh my God, YESSSSS!! I can't tell you how much I agree with you. I fucking hate that commercial. Bitch "designs" a couple of wifebeaters, hoodies, and fugly purses and suddenly she's - as you so asutely put it - a paragon of creativity. WTF.

And Sibsi, I grew up about 5 miles from where she did and I'm pretty sure she looks down her nose on everyone from that area now too.

I agre with angel_i. Return of Saturn was ok but at first it jolted me because they took a slight left turn into pop territory. Rock Steady was a good album as well. It would be cool if they took it back to the begining but I doubt they will. Eric had a lot to do with their intial sound since he was the founder and all. I just love the group. I don't like her as a solo artist.

The thing about them when they first came out was that you could not tack them into one category. We Jamaicans recognized the ska influence but it was not ska or even reggae for that matter, but it's always nice to see people enjoy what your culture has to offer and try to emulate it. I never had a problem with that.

They tried to do Dancehall music on Rocy Steady. They put one of the Dancehall kings, Bounty Killa on it but it didn't quite make it as a Dancehall track but I loved it anyway. Hey Baby was the Jam.

I was a punk back in my younger days and no one I knew ever thought of No Doubt as punk. Not really even ska either, though undoubtedly they were influenced by ska. They may have been some influenced by punk as well, but it's always been irritating to hear them classified anywhere near punk because they definitely were not.

No Doubt the band makes Gwen a good singer their sound is unique and enjoying. Her brother Eric had a lot to do with their success on Tragic Kingdom but he chose to not go on with the band. They had one other member who committed suicide before they hit it big. In my native country, Jamaica the band No Doubt is greatly respected. In a lot of peoples eyes it was never really about Gwen herself but what their sound represented.

Bottom line is that the girl can't sing but the music is awesome and her baby dolly voice really brings out the music. They need to hurry up with that new album already.
