St. Angie Is The Highest Paid Actress In The Universe
Saint Angelina Jolie has knocked Reese Witherspoon off her golden throne and is now the highest paid actress in the entire universe according to The Hollywood Reporter. You know some bitchy ass alien is giving me the side-eye because she's the highest paid actress on Mars.
In 2008, Angie's movies including Kung Fu Panda and Wanted totaled $1 billion worldwide. She makes up to $15 million per movie.
I'm sure Saint Angie has it on her "To do list" to donate every last cent she's ever made to the humans of the world. She'll live the rest of her life as a peasant in some shanty town so that every person on this planet can say they've been touched by her kindness. Either that or she'll use her fortune to adopt more kids and finally create a child army big enough to take us all down. Yeah, probably the latter.
The rest of the top 5 looks like this:
2. Julia Roberts
3. Reese Witherspoon
4. Cameron Diaz
5. Katherine Heigl
Wait. Stop. Hold up. Rewind. Put the phone down. Throw the pie away. Choke a kitten. KATHERINE HEEEIGL?! Katherine "makes me want to stick a knife in my peen hole" Heigl is the 5th highest paid actress in the world?! Okay, whoever is paying this ho to act in anything needs to be taken out back and beat with a tree branch by my abuelita.

How is this related to the loss of work and houses in the USA for your (American)habit to spend more than you earn
***********************
Babie (note to self: remove head from ass): Please don't even begin to compare the state of the US economy to the salaries that are being given to these overrated actors/actresses. It's apparent that you've missed the point. If you need a recap then you're gonna have to read through the comments, but I'll give you a clue:
People that work on a set for 2 or 3 months at most should not be entitled to this kind of wealth. They entertain but most do a poor job at it. It would be nice to pay teachers, police, firemen, EMT workers, the kind of money that shows them the appreciation for helping mankind! We have people that put their life on the line every day for other people and certainly don't get rewarded handsomely like these idiots!
@Muska & Keane:
You're both obviously very smart and very educated. Now for the love of Pete will you two have the interesting debate you're capable of, without resorting to bludgeoning each other with your academic credentials?
***********
“Il m’a liée et il a pris son plaisir lentement. Et son plaisir était le mien”
LOL@babie:
Not difficult at all. In fact we discussed that. It doesn't change the fact that people around the world are also starving while these women walk around with buckets and buckets of money strapped to their asses for looking pretty on millions and millions of dollars worth of film.
It doesn't change the fact that it's disheartening they would rather people give out their money to purchase their wares instead of helping out the needy families around them. Or even their OWN needy families as they drown in debt.
If these women are SO compelling as to make MOVIES more important than the welfare of ourselves and our fellow man (which Angelina STILL does despite her CHARITY) then we got some serious problems that need fixing.
If they are SO compelling they could help us. They could give 50% of their incomes and STILL live VERY comfortably. They'd be doing some direct good and setting a great example. But they don't. It's disgusting. And that's a fact.

Yes, but our point is...
Why the hell does she make so much money when her films tank?
How difficul for you is to understand that actors are paid that amounts of money because they sell tikets AROUND THE WORLD? Movies make million dollars in theatres + DVDs + merchandaising.
How is this related to the loss of work and houses in the USA for your (American)habit to spend more than you earn?
Jolie is the protagonist of Changeling and carries out the film. Like Roberts and Witherspoon do and did in many movies. They are A list actresses. And they do their work because they interpret the feelings and action for the moviegoers to see and understand. And people go to theatres because they like the stories that are told, and chose the people that tell stories in a better way. People AROUND THE WORLD go to see Jolie and Roberts. Deal with it
Oh so you went to Oxford (so you’ve mentioned twice now), well then, I should really keep my mouth shut, huh? Because obviously i wouldn’t know shit, right? Well, now you’ve felt the need to give some background info, now allow me: obviously you’re ahead of me, because you’re OLDER. I’m hardly in university yet, but I live in a small european country, and when I finished high school my grade point brought me in as number 1 that year. I speak 6 languages (english being the 3rd), and I plan to apply to Princeton and Yale. Obviously Oxford is off the list now that I’ve seen the desperately insecure people it hatches in this age.
About Derrida: (post)structualism, linguistics, Saussure and the breaking down of meanings and scrutiny of discourse theory, is really not the same thing when done in English. I learned it in french, i read about it in french, and it would be strange not to discuss the subject of words in language from which the theory originated: french. Peux tu resister?
Anyway, I’m more of a Foucault/Butler-kind of girl myself. So if you ever feel the need to delve on some performativity or the history of ideas, let me know. Or even better, Laclau and Mouffe, or since you mentioned Derrida: let’s just venture all the way and include barthes and Greimas, shall we??
You know, I fucking hate people that do what I’ve just done. Boast, speak of their achievements this way, but your pathetic behaviour made me do it. You really myst have felt cornered when you start bringing up where you went to school in order to have some credibility in a discussion on a celebrity blog with the subject being Angelina Jolie.
My psychic told me that there is going to be a brand new celebrity perfume with the most elegant and timeless name of Toe Cheese.
Yes, Toe Cheese.
The scent was expertly designed by scientists who were given special grants to smell toes, for the purposes of detecting smelly toes, of course.
The company hopes to get Angelina Jolie to promote this eternal classical scent, recognizable by everyone in humanity. Just ask our public relations CEO, Princess Titty Caca. ono

I just watched her in Original Sin. You can't take your eyes off of her whe she's on screen, she's really something else. Yay for Angelina!
Her beauty's not the flawless dull Monica Bellucian-sort of beauty that have you sighing. It's totally flawed! But soooo intriguing - like the woman herself.
Come on, wouldn't you guys be fuming if it was wet marshmellow Gwyneth Paltrow or Reese Witherspoon??
--------------------------------------------------
Original sin was back When Angelina was still full of that sexual energy that made her have a glow to her. But that Glow is now GONE! The only way I see that coming back to her is if she and Brad split up! They just seem to be bad for each other. They aren't themselves, they aren't real! She needs to be with someone with more intensity, that is who she really is, and she's lost it! And no, I definatly would NOT be fuming if Reese Witherspoon made # 1 on this list, in fact, I think she deserves to be more than any other actress! She has the appeal an actress needs to real be a top earner. Beauty, Talent, and CLASS!!

You Fail, unless I say different.
@ Ms. Caligula: Monica Bellucci is naturally beautiful. Angelina only poses.
Thing I don't understand is this..how the hell does Angelina rank #1? I don't know of anyone that goes to see her movies ..at least no one admits it. She is not really all that talented..Reese Witherspoon is more talented than Crapalina is..
The reason "Angelina has a strange changeable quality about her" is because she's had plastic surgery on her face which has caused it to gradually change it's appearance over the last 10-15 years. And her dramatic weight loss hasn't helped either.
I've always had a masssive girl crush on Monica Belluci, so maybe that makes me biased. But I could stare at pics of her unearthly beauty all day long. When I look at pics of Angie, all I can see is her same old "femme fatale" poses, & her ever changing facial structure & body size. I always thought her old "bulbous" nose was what made her beautiful, but now that it & her curves are gone, all I see is this giant face & forehead morphing into something akin to a frog with stick legs & veiny arms. It's just not sexy at all.
And I feel like what Love Anderson said bears repeating: Monica Belluci is 43. Angelina Jolie looks 43. And oddly enough, Monice looks better at 43 than Angie does at 33 (or is it 34?).
Lastly, Monica was in Irreversible, & nothing Angie has ever done or ever will do will touch the sheer magnitude of that film.

"a little knowledge is a dangerous thing," but maybe they didn't teach grammar at Oxford.
I wouldn't know because I am ignorant.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Did the sky suddenly go dark for a quick second? That was God rolling his eyes. (MK)
Muska - we're talkng about people not the concept of beauty in general.
And yes you're just 100% correct that I'm extremely ignorant when it comes to philosophy. That's what my Oxford tutor told me at every tutorial of the philosophy component of my literature degree, straight after giving me an alpha for every single essay I wrote (that's a 1st in case you weren't aware). And my college certainly told me how ignorant I was when they awarded me a scholarship for the 1st I got in my first year exams - coming 26th out of the 260 people in my year. They said you are ignorant, ignorant, ignorant.
And seeing as you are such an expert on the subject of philosophy, why don't you give me a brief explanation of Derrida's theory of deconstruction? He's one of my favourite philosophers. And let me give you a little tip Muska, I was having a friendly debate with you, but if you're gonna try to suggest I'm stupid let me sum up my assessment of your intellect from what I've heard from you so far: "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing", i.e. you have read a bit but have never been part of an academic forum where your ideas will be subjected to rigorous testing, i.e. you think you're a lot more clever than you are. Any one of my friends or tutors would tear your theories apart. Sorry, but you started it.
pontificate: to speak in a pompous or dogmatic manner
Ehm, you're a little confused. Beauty isn't just about faces. Music, art, literature, architecture - rings any bell?
And you're obviously extremely ignorant when it comes to philosophy. One of the greatest subjects here IS beauty.
Nah Muska, I think you're reading way too much into it. Beauty is a pretty basic concept to be honest - its about who we consider fuckable. I think its a bit of an insult to philosophy to say that has any thing to do with it. It says something about us culturally and socially yes, but it doesn't say a great deal; it's the equivalent of a sentence. And I have to disagree with you that its a nice thing to say someone is beautiful etc. I know people do it all the time but I practically never do it and am never interested when people do it to me. I think our society in general is far too hung up on what people look like which is 90& determined by our genetic make-up. I would much rather tell someone what a nice/talented/intelligent/kind etc person they are than say why didn't you get a lucky mix of genes from your mother and father's genepool. They did absolutely nothing to earn it and, equally, less fortunate-looking people did nothing to deserve it. Plus it must suck to be one of those people who has rarely if ever been told they're attractive. So in conclusion its best not to comment on it all and focus on people's personal qualities and achievements. In general our society is FAR too preoccupied with looks and how much we weigh - it bores me to death and is one of the least important topics of discussion I can think of.
thank you.
Oh and I find most models to be exceptionally dull looking. They're the closest a woman can come to being the tender fantasy of gay Parisian designers: the eternally boyish man.
Actually beauty is a tremendously interesting topic. It involves all things yummy: history of ideas, biology, cultural perceptions, philosophy, some would say religion (read Somerset Maugham's novels and you'll catch my drift). What we find beautiful today is an acute insight into the innerworkings of our time, it speaks volumes of our zeitgeist, of who we are and what we strive for. Thus it's telling of something concrete, and of something universal since it also says a alot about human nature. Why do we aggregate to discuss who's beautiful and who's not? Why do some eagerly point to beauty while others disdainfully reject it?
Why do some sooo keenly believe Angelina to be the most beautiful woman ever while others think she looks like a lollipop-headed skeleton with roided-up lips?
And Keane: I think it's a nice thing to tell someone if you something about them beautiful, it makes them happy. You know, like we ourselves like to be told those things.
Just face it, Angelina is one big hypocrite. And she does throw knives around her house, I read that and I believe it.
Angelina Jolie is obviously a very good-looking woman but I can't give someone credit for this alone. Looks are really just an accident of birth and for me just aren't an aspect of a person that I feel is worth commenting on. Its just a bit of a dead end conversation to me: "she's attractive isn't she?" (person no 1), "yeah, but I prefer this person" (person no 2), "oh" (1). Its just a bit dull and so what? If someone's good-looking I tend to register it without needing to comment on it, if they're that good-looking everyone else can see it anyway, there's no need for me to point it out. And God, I dunno, I just find it so boring, this whole who is and who isn't beautiful debate, my brain turns to mush. That being said, check out the website of Storm model agency for instance and there you will see some pics of some truly stunning women. They're like birds of paradise and the photographic work is amazing, like looking at art. But that's the extent of my interest in beauty.
I think Maria Bello is an excellent and underrated actress. I hope she gets to make the big bucks someday.
"This ain't rock n roll. This is genocide!"
Oh em gee Becky, so I went to Loony Land and found this gem, from the novelist there, Clooniqua:
"I know, I loved seeing Katherin Heigl’s asss up there…because she’s made the transition so smoothly from TV to film - and if you’ve seen her you know why. It’s ridiculous how there’s always this silly tabloid hysterical fantastical Maniston vs Jolie sh*t when Jolie is in another league entirely (i.e., A-list, Oscar, HELLO??!!), as Maniston is not even fit to shine Heigl, Leah Remini or Cox & Kudrow’s shoes. You forgot cheek implants which aren't popular at all in Europe. Looks like tennis balls.
She has a voice over in Kung Fu and was a co-star in Wanted. How in the hell is she taken so much credit for movies that aren't hers. Reese isn't the best but at least she is the leading actress in her movies. And I thought the highest paid actress was Reese at 20 million.
Well maybe this: in Europe you don't have a one-dimensional view of what beauty in a woman is. In America this is the golden formula: tiny nose (Ivanka Trump has taken this to extremes, yuck) really big lips, big eyes, a tan, and long fake-looking hair. Body wise: big boobs, long legs, big ass.
And I can imagine that many beautiful American women who don't fit into that stereotype get insecure, and insecurity will hide beauty more than a paper bag could. So they actually look less attractive because they themselves start buying into that stupid idea fostered by Hollywood. In Europe, however, nothing will break down the self-confidence of women whose looks diverge from that tiny nose-big eyes-huge lips formula.
Thos probably made no sense to anyone but me.
You forgot glow in the dark perfectly shaped white teeth. What´s up with that, people are always commenting (maybe not so much on this site but on others)on how this and this person needs to have their teeth whitened or fixed and I always peer at the photo and usually don´t see anything wrong with the teeth in question...
Very well said Sibis: it is really sad we live in a world that rewrds people with these really obscene salaries for doing really nothing special. I mean how much have angelina and other stars contributed to society that they deserve so much money? Someone once said it before, with all their salaries combined we probably would be having a cure against cancer already. A lot of research is impeded because of a few million dollars are missing and these people get wham...15 or 10 million for 3 months of work.
How is that rational? Or fair?
I'm thinking that if some alien race were to ever land on this planet and observe our society from afar, they would be horrified. We revel in violence and we devote whatever little technology we have to devising ways of killing each other. Instead of rewarding people who can find solutions to many ills in our society, we reward those who either do the exact opposite (defense industry) or woh dont do anything (entertainment). I am thoroughly disgusted.
I look at Angelina and all I see is a woman who would not be raking in 15 million a picture if Jon Voight was not her father. Look at early pictures of her-she's has a nose job, cheek implants and possibly a chin implant. She's had work done to her lips. (It's unfortunate she can't have work done to shrink the size of her head-it's shaped like a circus peanut.) Anyway, without her Daddy's influence, she wouldn't be an actress. She'd be average, just like you and me. So instead of thinking she is god's gift to the world, she ought to be kissing Jon Voight's crazy ass every day, because without him, she wouldn't be newsworthy.
Angel, I love you more after every post of yours.
Life isn't fair is definitely one of the very true things my parents once told me after I - probably - threw a fit over something stupid as a child.
@LOVE ANDERSON : are you talking about Burn After Reading? I actually liked that film and thought Brad was good there.
@ Muska: Anorexia was once thought of as a disease restricted to teen waspy girls, but more and more they're discovering that it can hit any age/race/class group.
I was once the 'jewish princess' kinda statistics there, but never got underweight enough to go to inpatient treatment, so I read a lot about this on my own, while trying to get out of that hell hole.
When I speak of Angelina's beauty I'm referring to it as it was ten years ago, this Original Sin, Gia etc. Not today. She's said it herself that if she doesn't work out or watch how she eats, she'll end up looking like a malnourished teen boy, so her current physcial state surprises me. I can think of three explanations though:
1. She's still grieving the death of her mother. Very possible.
2. She has some distorted view of her body. Can anorexia hit grown women?
3. She wants to move beyond being a sultry exotic beauty, one very entrenched in female sexuality, to becoming a cooler, more distanced one - like Audrey Hepburn, Mia Farrow etc. It would explain her recent wardrobe tastes as well.
You make some good points, a face with some "flaws" is certainly more interesting than flawless beauty, I agree with you on that. That was probably what made Angelina so fascinating to me at one point but not anymore because her "flaw", those ginarmous lips have taken over half her face due to her weightloss and probably some plastic surgery.
What makes Monica Bellucci more than just a beautiful face is that she oozes sex appeal and does so without any effort.
Is it too much to ask of society that teachers, researchers and those working hard make more money than men (and women) who have no skill sets which are useful beyond Hw?
It's not that their work isn't valuable, but how is it more valuable than working on the search for the cure of cancer?
************************************
This is a question I ask myself almost daily.
Sadly, I think I found an answer. Obviously, the answer was just there already but Britney helped me see it.
They create jobs. The masses are pretty fey, in general. There are lots and lots of very grounded and intelligent people in the world, sure. But MOST of us are fey. They get attached to Angelinas and Britneys and Brads and whatnot. The industry uses that to their advantage. And you look at a set like Britney's Circus - or even her craptastic VMA performance - you see a boat load of people who are getting paid. And those are the people you see - you don't even see production, PR, Marketing, Lawyers, hundreds and hundreds of retail teams, both corporate and face front....all getting paid.
The more things they sell the more people get paid and the money keeps moving through the economy instead of being tied up in paying off debts and savings for College Funds.
I'm PRETTY sure you could find people with more valuable things to say, at least, to take the places of these Jessicas and Paris' but like the fey masses, the people getting paid would like to keep it simple and not strain their brains too much.
Which is ultra-sad to me because I feel like, socially, we are stuck...and it's just time - time to move forward. I also get pissed because all the social advances were made right before I was born and then we started moving backwards. No fairsies! I want some of that good shit in my life too!
@Muska: SInce we're talking about beautiful women, who are not perfect, how about Irene Jacob?
Always thought her beauty had this ability to change you cite Angelina has. Then again, Jacob is French and they always tend to have a lot of character added to their beauty.
Ah the beauty of imperfection. Some religions believe that only one is perfect and this is God. So whenever they make something they always leave a flaw in it.
And yes some people are beautiful because of their physical flaws. It gives them character. But with Angelina I don't know if its a case of too much plastic surgery gone bad, age not agreeing with her or stress getting the best of her. But I see her beauty falling by the wayside and fast. Or it could be because she's a nasty vain lying bitch who thinks too much of herself.
Once you see someone for who they really are all beauty you once saw is lost forever.
That is an obscene amount of money, especially when her movies (and Braddy's) fall like rocks. That is one high-priced whore.
No one of her ilk should be paid that much.
Stars get paid their silly salaries because producers figure that's the value they bring to the box office. A mediocre movie suddenly has star power if Angelina or Reese is in it. Even if a movie does badly, as a lot of recent movies with Kidman or Diaz have, the producers still must figure that the stars' $15m salaries make the movie at least that much more profitable (if only in DVDs and overseas sales). I don't really mind the salaries, as long as the stars don't think that entitles them to lecture me about politics or better living.
