@ Tigerlily. You're right and there's more to the story too. Mink and fox used to be fed fish. I never lecture but I've been a vegetarian for 24 years and my Grandparents, when alive, had a mink and fox farm in Europe. I saw what went on and my stand is my own because I love my family. My family also owned a warehouse that prepared food for feed for the mink and fox that would go into this machine that dispensed the food in the aisle of the mink farms. At that time a lot of it was ground up fish that could have been used to feed people. In the late 70's a lot of it was cod, believe it or not. The animals in the cages would get so stressed and nervous they would chew half of the heads off their own young, who would still be alive. The fox were like dogs in intellect. I saw how they were killed and the fur removed. I am literally haunted by how these poor animals lived as I love animals. But, I won't lecture and I do not support Peta given their actions and hiring of bimbo models as spokespersons. It's like religion; we all make our choice. I don't eat meat or wear leather. But, to deplete the oceans of food and maybe net a few whales and dolphins in the process is wrong.

I agree with you on some points but not all the mink that are grown for mink fur are used for anything else, not even pet food. It's a waste for those VAST AMOUNT of consumers of fur (which is pretty much unnecessary btw) who do not consume mink meat or use other mink products. I'm not saying that other cultures do not use these products, I'm saying that the minks who are slaughtered ARE NOT used in the world wide market for MANY other purposes unlike cows and the like. Just because other cultures do use mink like they would a cow (IF infact they do) does NOT mean the majority of mink are used that way. If we use them as fur, we should use them as we do other animals, but we don't. That's my point. To use them primarily (and let's face it, almost SOLELY)for fur is wasteful decadent barbaric and unnecessary. Plus, it's not just minks, it's foxes, rabbits racoons, cats. When skanks who wear fur eat a fox steak, then call me out on my leather shoes.

Even PVC is NOT technically vegan, cuz animal products are used to make it. Also, you fly on a plane? Guess what? Animal products are used in several aspects of commercial aircraft. That said, you have to pick and choose your battles because it's quite difficult to truly get away from consuming animal products in some way, shape or form. However, there are some choices we make that are more unnecessary and callous than others. Each person must decide that for themselves, however.
