R.I.P. Eartha Kitt
FUCK! Not today! This really did ruin my Christmas. Eartha Kitt, legend and icon, passed away today in NYC at the age of 81. On Christmas Day! She was seriously the best Catwoman ever.
Her publicist told CNN that Eartha was receiving treatment for colon cancer at hospital in New York. Her daughter, Kitt Shapiro, was by her side at the time of her death.
Eartha is survived by her daughter and four grandchildren.
Rest in peace, Eartha... You will always be perfect! And since it's Christmas, here's Eartha singing my favorite Christmas song. Eartha sang the original and nobody will ever be able to top her. I got the sads in a major way now.

And, I'd like to reiterate (again) how incredibly gutted to know that Eartha passed away on Christmas. Maybe it's fitting though, I suppose - she did sing the original (and by far superior to any cover) version of "Santa Baby".
I'm sure you've gotten all you wanted on your wish list, Ms. Kitt. You were one sultry, classy, honest and brave lady. Rose to stardom in a segragated society and always spoke your mind. Class act, all the way, you slinky feline hotness. You're a legend.

When I listen to her I think smoky jazz club, sophisticated conversation in the background and seduction in the air. And class. Musn't forget that.
This is incredibly sad. Sad not only because of the fact that she will not grace us with her beautiful presence on earth, but also because (as a diehard James Dean fan) Eartha was one of Dean's closest and first friends in the industry. They befriended each other in NYC when he first moved out there and she was dancing. He took ballet classes with her as she ensured him the dance would stregnthen his acting abilities and a long lasting friendship formed as a result. The legends are all leaving us and now we're left with pompous, over paid, pieces of dirt on our television screens.
On an even more morbid note, is cancer going to be the demise of mankind?

So incredibly sad (fitting?) that Eartha would pass on Christmas. Also one of my very favorite Yule classic tunes. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.
Not sure if it's nostalgia or somethin', but so many of the stars of yesteryears just exuded such class and panache. So so so very different now.
