Patrick Swayze Has Gone Into The Hospital
Shitty news for a Friday afternoon. Patrick Swayze was hospitalized for pneumonia. Ugh. I hate pneumonia. I even hate the name.
Patrick was scheduled to attend an event at the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles today for his new show The Beast. A&E's president told reporters, "Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today's panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery."
Patrick, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, recently told Barbara Walters in an interview that he's going through hell. And now this. 2009 was supposed to be better.
Send a million and more good thoughts to Patrick....

...of course smoking is bad for you - so is not exercising, eating badly, taking too many pills and so on....but, we will all die of something eventually, just like my mother who smoked 2 and a half packs a day for 60 years and was never sick a day in her life until we found her dead in her bed with the most peaceful look on her face after a massive heart attack - probably due to her long smoking habit according to the coroner....she was a young energetic 74 years old and other than it being a bit too early, if I got to choose, I would go the same way....much better than slow, painful cancer or Alzheimers or being totally bedridden in diapers at the mercy of others for years and years like many of my other relatives....I'll take a fast and young exit anyday...

My precious Uncle Steve died of pancreatic cancer when he was 73. He was diagnosed at the age of 67 and after an operation and chemo he lived for another seven years. He was a hard drinker and a life time smoker, even though he had lost a lung in World War II. Patrick Swayze is just a total fool with his smoking. He hasn't much time left, trust me.
What a shame. All the best and I hope he recovers.
Enough with the smoking nazis. Let him be.

Good for you for quitting smoking, but did you do this while you were fighting stage 4 cancer??
Quitting smoking puts a tremendous amount of stress on the body, stress that isn't good for someone who is trying to fight off an illness. If you saw him on Barbara Walters Special, he said he doesn't smoke around children, never has. He says it is a filthy habit that he has cut down on. Give him something to enjoy. Do you really think that if he quits smoking now it will save his life??

My hubby is the same way...also hes 14 yrs older than me, and should be able to enjoy his life. I rag on him about his cigars and scotch, but what else can I do? I hate it like hell, but ragging isnt going to make it any better. Id rather he's happy. Whenever he tried to quit, its hell on him. Live and let live...

To explain further without being mean, I think some people pick quality of life over quantity of life.
My mom's husband had a heart attact and his doctor said, no fat, no salt, no wine, no cigars.
He did that for 3 months and told my mom he would rather have a shorter, happier life with her than not have his pleasures.
He lived another five years and died of a heart attack.
My mom was happy that he was happy.

This is usually the last straw for anyone struggling such as he has been. I wish him all the best, and I wish he were healthy and well.

I hate to be negative but this is VERY BAD for a cancer patient to have pneumonia. It will be extremely difficult for his body to fight the infection. Many cancer patients take a turn for the worse once they get this-I know from personal experience due to my Mom.

I didnt realize that was Patrick Swayze! I always remember Farley's flabby ass dance. I LOVED it. Probably my favorite SNL moment that I can think of.

On that same episode, Swayze did a skit named "White Trash Bed and Breakfast". It was around '93 when he made this particular appearance on SNL. I'll never forget it. He was HILARIOUS!!!
He and Farley were the best Chippendale's ever. Farley was a riot!

Well this is fucked. My mom was perfectly healthy and only 45 and she died in the hospital from pneumonia, I don't say that to make this sound worse than it already is, I just hope he's in good hands as that illness is extremely dangerous for people that aren't in his state of health. I watched a clip from his Barbara Walters interview and I just about lost it, I admire the hell out of anyone who can continue to live their lives, work, plan for the future when they're battling something like Cancer. I'm such a weak ass bitch, I could never do it. God Bless you, Patrick, stay strong brother.

This is just terrible...my father was undergoing chemo for lymphoma 5 yrs. ago and was doing very well when VERY suddenly, with no warning, after his last treatmnt, he came down w/ pneumonia. We were told by the head of the ICU to start making arrangments...but somehow he pulled through and is alive and well today. But I know that is not the norm...particularly w/ someone as sick as Patrick. If you're the prayin kind, now's the time to send up some prayers. :(

My good friend is battling stomach cancer (that he got working at ground zero). He has been in and out of ICU for the past 2 and a half weeks due to Pneumonia. It's very serious when you have cancer because they have to stop whatever treatments you are undergoing (chemo or radiation), because those kill your immune system.
All good wishes to Patrick and his family!
Sadly, this is how cancer sufferers usually die.

I love that man so much I think he is one of the world's nicest people.He is in my prayers along with the members of his family. I hope the good Lord helps him through this illness yet again.

Almost everyone I know that has died from cancer, died from pneumonia. Even my poor Grandpa that passed away last year. :( I hope he's ok.

I have too many close to home experiences of people with cancer to mention so won't go into it here. As far as a cure goes I just read the headline of a newspaper on the way home which said "Designer babies born without cancer". I didn't read the article but I assume it means if you have a teat tube baby you can deselect the cancer gene if its known to be present. But if you smoke you will probably get cancer and die anyway, maybe as young as 50. Having said that my Grandad smoked something ridiculous like 50 a day for a very long time and lived to the ripe old age of 88. He did have a triple heart bypass though so it gets you one way or another. When I look at people smoking I think is that really worth risking your life for? Is it worth dying in a terrible, painful, undignified way for? Its not even particularly enjoyable - its not as good as sex or even being drunk. And you would send yourself to an early grave for that? Makes no sense.
