Patrick Swayze Has Gone Into The Hospital

Shitty news for a Friday afternoon. Patrick Swayze was hospitalized for pneumonia. Ugh. I hate pneumonia. I even hate the name.

Patrick was scheduled to attend an event at the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles today for his new show The Beast. A&E's president told reporters, "Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today's panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery."

Patrick, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, recently told Barbara Walters in an interview that he's going through hell. And now this. 2009 was supposed to be better.

Send a million and more good thoughts to Patrick....

Oh wow, I thought he was doing better and all.
Maybe they got it early enough.
---------------------

There is NO RETURN from pancreatic cancer once its diagnosed. It's the worst of all cancers, is my understanding. I don't think there have ever been any recoveries from it.

Sorry to be such a pessimistic beach.
I live in a cancer city. Many people come to retire here or come here for cancer treatment.

If I got cancer I'd probably reject all treatment. I've seen a lot of people suffer for a long time (like a year) with drugs like chemo and then dialysis. What's the point of living one more year if it's totally going to drain your family and their emotions, resources, ect. But I don't have little or grown kids...

just sayin'

hope i'm wrong and he gets to hang out as long as he likes.

but remember tammy faye baker? how she went on Larry King that one last time?

really, i'm not hard hearted, its just that my s.o. is in the medical profession and he works with so many people in these situations. i've been hearing about it every day for years.

i think people should just have a chance or decidee to proceed however they want once they get the diagnosis. and a lot of people do say "fukitol" to all the meds and treatments.

Sorry Patrick, sometimes you just can't catch a break. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

This is so sad, but did you all see how gaunt he looked in the Baba Wawa interview? I'm going to cry and cry and get really drunk if he passes away. The local rock radio show in Phoenix hosted by Jon Holmberg has a trivia game called Gut,Shat,Swaz, dedicated to the 3 best actors who ever lived(sic), Steve Guttenburgh, Bill Shattner, and Patrick Swayze. My no heart is breaking right now!

And I must harp on "Donnie Darko". He was good in that, too. He's a good bad guy.

lots of times patients "rally" then take a turn for the worst...

i don't think he's going to make it. full moon tomorrow night.

I HOPE HE GETS WELL..., BUT YOU KNOW WHEN THEY ASKED HIM IF HE WAS IN PAIN,,,HE SAID "PAIN DON'T HURT"...ROADHOUSE IS AN AMERICAN CLASSIC!!

There's "Roadhouse", but a close call to the same awesomeness is "Next of Kin". Good Gawd, I love that movie. That's a classic with family values, revenge and ass-kicking. Also Mafia, betrayal, murder, trains, fiddles, dogs and snakes.

oh no...i watched him on the barbara walters special and its just so sad. he seems like a fighter though, so hopefully he will pull through this. cancer is a son of a bitch!

All the best Patrick......only positive thoughts for you.

Didnt he have like a month to live after he announced to the world he had cancer?

ImpertinentVixen's picture

As I've posted here before, my dad died a speedy and painful death from this disease. It's devastating in a very short period of time. Continuing to smoke during treatment is not a wise decision. I wish him the best of luck.

I watched a doctor interviewed on a news show after Patrick revealed that he's still smoking. Doc said that continuing to smoke during treatment can lessen your chances for that treatment to be effective by 50%.
Bottom line - It does pay to stop smoking.

P. S. Steve Jobs had a very rare form of pancreatic cancer and is now sick again.

Awww. Best wishes for him. He seems like a nice pepaw and I loved him in "Donnie Darko".

I'm glad he said all that shit about not smoking, because we're trying to get Mr. Hekki to quit. He is cutting back drastically, though, hallelujah.

His performance as Veda Boheme was rivetting...I will always love him for that. However, can't stand Dirty Dancing (yeah I know I am in the minority there).

As an ovarian cancer warrior, I so feel for this man.

Patrick, you are gorgeous, talented, a total class act.

Your myriad of talents were wasted in the superficial and excess of the 80's.

I will pray for you, best of luck, long life and when your time comes...

I will always see you dancing in Heaven with Gene, Fred, Ginger, Cyd and Ann.

Good luck, and I love you.

I wish him well. But if he goes now, he'll have done a lot for pancreatic cancer research ... and that speaks enormously for the good man he is.

All positive thoughts to Patrick, Lisa & their families.

Sorry, guys, I don't know much about pancreatic cancer. I thought maybe it was in remission.

Submitted by KD on Fri, 01/09/2009 - 4:57pm.

Is it really that bad or is he a wuss? I've had pneumonia before, and I didn't go to the hospital. I know that a lot of people have died from complications with it, though. But I thought most of those were from being in the hospital with something else and then catching pheumonia.

I think that Bernie Mac had it before going into the hospital...and I don't think he had any other algiments (sp?) but I could be wrong

M.E.'s picture

Pancriatic cancer is certain death from what I understand. There is no "recovery" from it.

KD> He's not a wuss. He has cancer, too! The best thing for him to do was check himself into a hospital. His immune system is a mess right now.

I was talking about him with my man just last night. Doesn't look good for Patrick. I have seen cases of cancer patients winning their bouts with pneumonia. I remember Michael Landon holding up just a little bit after his diagnosis. There was really nothing back then for him. Patrick may have have better luck.

I wish him the best. I happen to like him a lot.

Cancer took my dad...I will never give up on finding a cure.

I am a fan of Swayze's and this is hard news to take. I'm praying for his recovery and for his family. He's a solid guy, a true rarity in hollyweird.
