Patrick Swayze Has Gone Into The Hospital
Shitty news for a Friday afternoon. Patrick Swayze was hospitalized for pneumonia. Ugh. I hate pneumonia. I even hate the name.
Patrick was scheduled to attend an event at the Television Critics Association in Los Angeles today for his new show The Beast. A&E's president told reporters, "Patrick Swayze has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today's panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery."
Patrick, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, recently told Barbara Walters in an interview that he's going through hell. And now this. 2009 was supposed to be better.
Send a million and more good thoughts to Patrick....

see i think you should only not smoke when you dont have cancer. If you already have it, fuck it. Would cigs effect the pancreas anyways?? Pancreas is one of those organs that sounds like a prehistoric time period. Cambrian, Mesozaic, Pancreatic...see it fits

This can't be good. With his history of smoking and the cancer, I hope he can pull through.
He always seemed like a decent guy and a better actor than a lot of them out there now. And I loved his beautiful Arabian horses.
Gossip/News outlets are saying it spread from the pancreas to his liver... :o(

He sounded sick throughout his interview with Babs the other night. It must've gotten worse. He's got to be exhausted from fighting so hard just to survive. I hope he can realize when it's his time so he can die with some rest and dignity.

Is it really that bad or is he a wuss? I've had pneumonia before, and I didn't go to the hospital. I know that a lot of people have died from complications with it, though. But I thought most of those were from being in the hospital with something else and then catching pheumonia.
I wish there was a short-hand way to say it, because I am too lazy to write it out one more time.
Ugh. Doesn't Chemo or Radiation kill your immune system?

applehead, I am a social smoker too, but I've had the worst allergies in the history of the universe this past week so I can't even smoke a little bit because I go into sneezing fits. I've always thought I was allergic to cigs but I like to smoke when I drink. I've been doing neither, so goodbye cigs hopefully forever! PS shouldn't smoke AT ALL, he has CANCER dammit!

Pancreatic cancer has catastrophically small survival rate. I think it's something like 5% of people diagnosed are still alive after 5 years. When it was announced that PS was diagnosed, I cried. It seemed like a signature on his death certificate, and he's still very young.
Pneumonia is an opportunistic infection that is often the result of the collapse of the immune system. Some people can get pneumonia by itself, but it's usually comorbid with other diseases.
I hope that this doesn't mean that Patrick is taking a turn for the worse...Bernie Mac was enough of a shock, thank you very much.

That sucks! As a social smoker (only when I drink) I don't get the whole addiction thing to them (although I know it's true) but with your life on the line I don't understand not giving them up
