At Last....Beyonce's Gonna Get Her Ass Whooped!
May-December catfights are having the best week ever! First, there was La Dunaway vs. the chippy skank known as Hilary Duff. And now we have Etta James vs. Sasha Fierce! Diapers against divas. It is on.
When it was announced Beyonce would sing "At Last" at the presidential inauguration, I nearly turned my head inside out trying to figure out why they just didn't ask Etta instead. Etta feels the same way and bitch is bitter about it. During one of her concerts in Seattle the other night, Etta let it roar! Even Basement Baby hid under her bed in fright.
Etta told the audience, "You know, YOUR President, the one with the big ears-he ain’t my President–had that woman singing for him at his Inauguration. She’s going to get her ass whooped. How dare Beyonce sing MY song that I been singing forever. Now I’m going to sing it for y’all….”
FUCK YES! I felt like I've been dreaming of this moment ever since Beyonce got up there in that tight ass dress and sang Etta's song. Etta will beat the Sasha Fierce right out of Beyonce. And I want a hit of whatever Etta was smoking backstage.
Wait. Did she just diss Obama? Michelle Obama is going to have put all her rings on and tag in.

I really don't care that Etta didn't sing the song, but I thought it was a telling clue that Beyonce had no songs of her own that would have been appropriate to sing. Like I could see her going through her catalog...Put a Ring On It...no, Check On It...no, Naughty Girl, no, it's like she really has no uplifting song of her own. Like Mariah Carey has Hero, Whitney Houston has Greatest Love of All. It just goes to show you how music has really turned to new lows. She had to sing At Last because really, it's not like she should be working a stripper pole wearing a leotard in the crack of her ass singing at the inaugural ball...but that's really all her songs.

This isn't even Etta's song. It was written by Harry Warren and Mack Gordon, and introduced in 1941 by the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
Glenn Miller was far better known than Ella could ever hope to be, and Harry Warren wrote 81 top ten hits, with 21 going to #1 of the pop charts. Look it up.

I'm not even commenting on Etta vs. Beyonce - but Etta, a woman who lived through segregation days raggin' on Obama, the first black man in the white house? Who was she for - McCain and Palin? He ain't my president? Well yes, he is - unless you plan to move somewhere else. I don't trust musicians who go for republicans - Ted Nugent, Hank Jr., Kid Rock, John Rich - all dicks. Is everyone supposed to subscribe to one political party, one religion, one view point. Not all Republicans are evil and not all Democrats are saints. If Etta James is a Green Party voter, I don't care, if Ted Nugent is a Republican, it doesn't take away from some of the cool tunes he put out in the 70's. If Hank Jr votes conservatively, so what, it's their choice. Doesn't mean they are bad people. My parents and grandparents are/were all conservatives and they were trust worthy,decent, tax paying, HARD WORKING citizens. Please don't lump all people into one catagory just because you don't share their views. Plus, no one should have to hide their politics from the world because the party they identify with isn't the popular one. And before you assume something, I am neither Republican or Democrat- I vote for whoever will do the job correctly.

I can tell you why they didn't let her sing at the inauguration. I saw her in concert about a year and a half ago and the woman is raunchy. I suppose she could hold her tongue while up there in front of Obama but maybe they didn't want to chance it. Plus, she is a drunk. She may have kicked all the heavy drugs but that sister drank like a fish through the whole show. She sang the roof down though.

As much of a fan I am of Etta's music, I seriously thought they didn't pick Etta to sing was b/c she wasn't alive anymore...how naive of me.
I completely agree with Etta, it really should have been her (especially since shes still alive lol), it was her damn song after all. Etta has also been through much more as far as civil rights is concerned, Beyonce has lived most of her life privileged. I don't think she should completely blame Obama, as far as I know he didn't pick Beyonce to sing, but if he did then that is 25 awesome points lost in my book for not choosing Etta. God I bet it would have been soo much more worthy to watch if Etta sang.
