At Last....Beyonce's Gonna Get Her Ass Whooped!
May-December catfights are having the best week ever! First, there was La Dunaway vs. the chippy skank known as Hilary Duff. And now we have Etta James vs. Sasha Fierce! Diapers against divas. It is on.
When it was announced Beyonce would sing "At Last" at the presidential inauguration, I nearly turned my head inside out trying to figure out why they just didn't ask Etta instead. Etta feels the same way and bitch is bitter about it. During one of her concerts in Seattle the other night, Etta let it roar! Even Basement Baby hid under her bed in fright.
Etta told the audience, "You know, YOUR President, the one with the big ears-he ain’t my President–had that woman singing for him at his Inauguration. She’s going to get her ass whooped. How dare Beyonce sing MY song that I been singing forever. Now I’m going to sing it for y’all….”
FUCK YES! I felt like I've been dreaming of this moment ever since Beyonce got up there in that tight ass dress and sang Etta's song. Etta will beat the Sasha Fierce right out of Beyonce. And I want a hit of whatever Etta was smoking backstage.
Wait. Did she just diss Obama? Michelle Obama is going to have put all her rings on and tag in.

@Miss Thang: I could be wrong, but I don't think Judy sang it until the '60s. Lena first sang it in 1941 and then in the movie Stormy Weather (a must-see!!), both of which were when Judy was still very young (right after Wizard of Oz). Lena's version's still the best IMO, although Ethel's was the first and was still very good.
Gotta add my two cents worth. Etta should have sang her song; I was wondering why she did not. I hope it is some comfort to Etta that Beyonce did a CRAPPY job on the song and looked like a fool singing it at the inauguration.

Obviously, Etta James - a legend and STILL a great performer - should have been asked to perform. But I wouldn't go so far as to say the Knowles family is Republican unless they just come out and say it or it's proven on paper.

It was disrespectful for those involved in the inauguration NOT to ask Etta. Obama was the face of the inauguration so of course she will be pissed at him and everyone else involved. I'm still on Team Etta.

I think Ms. James is upset that she has been pushed aside and didn't get the attention or respect she thought would come to her. Perhaps promises were made to her when she endorsed the movie, but since it turned out to be a flop, which it did, no one really cares anymore.
Now the comment about the President, I don't know. I am no fan of Obama nor was I a supporter. But he is the President. I think Ms. James thought that the President would ask her, a legendary singer and one of the originals who brought R & B, and black music to the white mainstream, to sing a song that was made famous by HER, not Beyonce.
Like Little Richard and other singers of that era, they are pushed aside and forgotten. And like Little Richard, Etta James doesn't hold her tongue. She never did and she never will.
