You know, it's been a while since I've posted a classic Hasselcrack moment, but she gave us one The View this morning. The topic was Ashley Judd's PSA where she bitch slaps Sarah Palin for killing woofies from the sky. Hasselcrack, defender of all things Palin, asked if Ashley also defends the hundreds of thousands of babies killed in abortions each year. When Joy Behar verbally punched her in the teeth by telling her to stay on topic, Hasselcrack asked if she was at the Socialist table? And just when I was about to scream "Ladies and whores, we've got a catfight!", Whoopi went to commercial. Whoopi always has to leave me with blue balls!
I don't even know why I watch The View anymore. Soon, I'm not going to have any teeth left, because I'm constantly grinding that shit when I listen to Hasslecrack's yappy ass voice. I just want to take that bedskirt she was wearing, wrap it around her mouth, throw her in a Bed Bath & Beyond discount bin and pray that someone buys her ass to stick under their mattress forever.
Hmmm...but then who would feed me my morning dose of rage?!
Why don't people ever stop to think that what's best FOR YOU isn't necessarily best? The problem with humanity is that we've let natural self interest mutate into gross selfishness and have the audacity to consider our existence more important than anything else.
What gives you more of a right to life and overpopulation than wolves? Oh, that's right, you have opposable thumbs and can fire a rifle. Congratulations. I'm by no stretch of the imagination an animal activist or an environmentalist for those of you who go around painting everyone who isn't a card-carrying member of the NRA with that brush. I try to recycle whenever possible, but if I'm an advocate of anything, it's the people-should-stop-being-huge-assholes movement. And maybe the stay-the-fuck-out-of-my-uterus perspective.
When the guy holding picket signs outside of clinics busts out his wallet and shows me the pictures of the 10 kids he adopted - even though he couldn't afford it - to give them a right to life, then I'll listen to what he has to say. I'll still disagree, but at least I'll listen because then he'll be one of the few people who actually has a right to an opinion on the subject.
The misconception about pro-choice advocates is that they're the opposite of pro-lifers: pro-lifers are against abortion, so pro-choicers are for it. Wrong. Abortion sucks. To live in a society or be in a situation where you have to choose to disrupt the natural function of your body is shitty. But there are worse things than non-existence. It's a hard and often painful choice to make (a lot of insensitive assholes with signs and graphic pictures happily ignore that fact) but it's a choice that should be left up to the person who has to do all the heavy lifting, not the peanut gallery that gets to sit back and judge but rarely steps in to offer support.

Do you think the wolves give a crap about Ashley Judd or any people? If you put a wolf and Ashley in a room together, and locked the door, we all know what would happen. I can tell you that the wolf wouldn't come out of that room with a bunch of new tricks that Ashley taught him. He wouldn't be able to fetch or roll over or sit up. Instead, he'd be sleepy and ready for a nap because he'd be full of Judd.
I see everyone making broad assumptions about when/where/why this hunting is happening. Take five minutes to Google this to at least see what BOTH sides have to say. You might just learn something.
Second, let's follow the anti-hunter logic a bit farther. Let's just ban all hunting. Within a few years, not only would there be far more human deaths to due to animal attacks, accidents, etc. Are you willing to die? Or have someone close to you die? I'm not.
Third, (and this is a standard hunter line, but true), the main reason that governments allow hunting is population control. You know what happens if, say, the deer population is not controlled? THEY END UP DYING ANYWAY. But, in the process, they often painfully starve to death, or worse, become sick and more susceptible to diseases, which spread and kill other animals or can endanger people.
Just shoot the wolves. But get better hunters or bigger guns that can do it in one shot.
Someone needs to shoot Hasselbeck from a helicopter to control her population and I'd like to volunteer.

Speaking of which, I live in Illinois, just across the river from St. Louis, and at this time of year, there are a LOT of bald eagles in our area. Beautiful animals. And recently, two were found dead, shot and decapitated. It made the news, of course, and if they can find who did it, I believe they said they would be charged with a felony. Some people just kill for the hell of it. I really doubt they will be able to find who did this.

I guess I should have prefaced with the fact that I am a biologist, so I understand natural selection. Natural selection refers to evolution and has NOTHING to do with population control.
The scenario I have described may or may not be due to human intrusion into natural habitat. If we are intruding (yes, we are) then why are there still such high numbers of the deer? They are still multiplying like crazy, and they are healthy and by no means underfed.
Yes, they ARE dangerous to humans, just as we are to them. I am not just "assuming" that. Do you really need to go up to a Bengal Tiger to find out it is a danger to you? No. Deer may not be as dangerous as a bengal tigers, but I can assure you that they can be dangerous to humans. When they decided to charge, you had best be out of their way. As I am surrounded by them, I can assure you that they all are not little precious Bambis that will eat out of your hand. And if you get near a male in heat, good lord, watch out!

I was devastated - I had meditated by that family for most of the autumn - we weren't quite into the winter. I begged them not to...they told me they would die - there wasn't enough water in the pond. Three days after the deed was done it warmed and it rained and rained and rained. I was SO pissed.

I just wanted to chime in that Illinois encourages deer hunting to control the big deer population we have. This year, there were three days in Illinois that firearm hunting of deer was allowed. Over 12,000 deer were "checked". Our bow/arrow season ran from October 2008 to January of 2009. During that period, over 64,000 deer were "checked" with bow and arrow. Do the math, and in just a few short months, over 76,000 deer were killed by hunters, and encouraged to do so, for population control. I'm sure a lot of them were used for food, but I'm also sure that a lot of them were not and were just used for the antlers or the pictures saying "look what I killed". And we STILL have too many deer here. They constantly jump in front of cars, many times severely injuring or killing the driver, and they wander into our subdivisions. Yes, they are a pretty sight, but they can be very dangerous. They have jumped through windows of storefronts here, too. I am just curious what would happen if for just one year, no hunting of the deer was allowed. Would we have even more or would nature just naturally keep the population in check? I don't know.

Those fuckers are always harassing me, too! I go to PP at least once a year because they can give me my annual physical (blood tests and all) and check me for breast and cervical cancer. Awful, huh? (I'm not even on the Pill b/c I have an IUD, but I guess any kind of birth control is bad.) Every single fucking time I go there, there are at least 2 OLD creepy-looking men holding 6'x 8' posters of partial-birth abortions.
The last time I went there, I told them 2 things:
1) Planned Parenthood does not perform anything even resembling a partial-birth abortion. Those are performed in RARE circumstances (e.g. the kid is hydrocephalic with no chance of life and is likely gonna kill the mother on his way out) and at a hospital, not a clinic like Planned Parenthood. If you're gonna show me (and all the schoolchildren walking down the sidewalk) truly DISGUSTING pictures before breakfast, at least make them accurate.
2) When I was at my annual PP visit during my first year of college, the nurse practitioner noticed some thyroid abnormalities and sent me off for tests. Turns out I had thyroid cancer. If it weren't for that super-observant NP, I'd either be dead or suffering from Stage 3 or 4 cancer right now. So how's that for pro-life?
I doubt I changed any minds, but yelling at them sure made me feel a lot better!

If wolves are overpopulating a certain area, that's when Fish and Game should step in and help with the clearing of these animals. And that doesn't necessarily mean killing them.
What Palin is doing is offering money for the killing of innocent wolves, sort of like a "tournament." Who in their right mind would offer money to someone after they killed something that has done nothing wrong? The video clearly shows that wolves are being killed in their turf. THEIR TURF! Why? So the Alaskan government can expand overpriced housing in areas that may not be occupied once they're built.
And Palin does not believe in saving the natural resources that Alaska, nor the US, carries. Her stance when running with McCain was to drill in Alaska when thousands - possibly millions - were spent on trying to keep resources as they currently stand.
I think you're missing the point entirely of the organization and Judd's message.

All Right Wing objectives are gussied up with no small amount of code to hide their draconian implications, so it is fitting that Hasselsnatch -- who can tap dance around complex realities with all manner of overwrought babble -- should want to be your spokeswoman. The rest of us opt to face one of life's most difficult realities: that there are certain necessary evils that exist in order to prevent further suffering down the line.

I agree with Joy. Elisabeth needs to stay on topic. She is known for changing the direction of the question or the topic they are discussing. I think that's the only way she feels she can contribute.
