R.I.P. Phil Carey
When I was a kid, the only soap opera I regularly kept up with was One Life to Live. I recorded that shit on VHS tapes and watched it when I got home from school. That's dedication, because recording crap on VHS tapes was not fun or pretty. Well, anyone that has watched OLTL knows about the legendary Phil Carey who played Asa, the patriarch of the Buchanan family. He was the billionaire pepaw of my dreams! And now he's dead! Soap Central reports that Phil passed away at the age of 83 sometime this weekend. No cause of death was given, but Phil was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2006 and underwent chemotherapy.
Phil starting playing Asa in 1980 until 2007. After that, he came the show to do several cameos. Asa was known for his ten million marriages, Well, 14 to be exact. 14 to 10 different bitches. Renee Divine was always my favorite wife. If any two people on this planet belonged together, it was Asa and Renee!
Rest in peace, Phil.... Llanview and the rest of the world won't be the same without you!

Very sad about Asa and Clint. Thanks for mentioning it, MK. I've been a fan forever and even though these two weren't my faves, they were soap legends. Nigel is the seemingly gay butler--he's still on, but occasionally gets it on with the ladies...Roxie! Also, Gabby died in the ladies room--although, hey! Its a soap! Anyone can come back! (Except Asa & Clint. Boo. )
I just hope they bring back Tina and Gabrielle. I loved watching Tina and Gabrielle's adventures, especially the time they snuck out of the halfway house. Didn't they both climb out the window ?
Also, Maria Roberts....where is that YouTube clip of Maria trying to kill Tina ? Barbara Luna is spectacular.
Nobody compares to Andrea Evans, though. That voice, those eyes. Loved TINA !!!!!
aww! i went to high school with his daughter. my nana nearly busted a nut when she saw him at my graduation. the king of her favorite "stories" has passed. we'll have to pour out a lil liquor for him tonight.
Wow, Asa is really gone. Yep, he was an institution on that show.

When I was but a youth I used to watch "General Hospital" and "One Life to Live" all the time. My dad was a fan, but he worked nights and slept days, so he taped them and we had to watch them or nothing after dinner.
I stopped watching around the time we got New Tina. Tina Classic was the only Tina for me.
I used to love to watch him as Asa Buchanan. I was sorry when he got too old to work back in the mid-late 90's. I missed seeing him on there all the time. He was a good actor. My 7 year old son's name is Asa and you wouldn't believe how many people ask me if I named him that after "Asa Buchanan." I think he had a lot of fans. I have to tell them, no he's not named after Asa Buchanan, but after Asa from the Bible...book of Kings! Its so funny though! I will miss him though...like they say "all good things must come to an end..."

Yeah, it's sad that Phil (who played Asa) and Clint Ritchie (who was the original Clint Buchanan) both died this week.
I loved him as Asa, he was a grumpy old fuck and didn't take any shit from anyone.
First, it is a damn travesty that work has interfered...hmm is that spelled right? Whatever I am so happy to see so many people watched OLTL. It always seemed to me that no one knew anything but Days of our lives which I never watched. I'm sure it was good shit but omg when Vikki had all of her personalities?? That was good drama, like a real dunt dun duuuunnnnn moment. Please tell me she is not dead too?? I always wanted to lose my viriginity to Beau Buchanan he was fucking sexy for an old country boy.

Phil Carey was one of a kind,there'll never be another like him. I used to watch OLTL back in its heyday--remember when Tina was always trying to get Cord, then it was Max? Funny how Clint Richie just passed too. RIP to both.

OH MY GOD! The tackiest and stupidest OLTL storyline was Eterna. Remember that shit? It wasn't as good as the Ice Princess storyline on GH (that was the ultimate shizz) but Eterna was hot because it was so fucking stupid.

R.I.P. Phil Carey. I used to be an abc soap junkie years ago. I'd go from "All My Children", to "One Life to Live", and "General Hospital". Fucked up, huh? I haven't watched them in over 10 years. Yet, every once in a while, I'll be in the waiting area at the car dealer, or something, and I'll see so many of the same people.
Not to speak badly about the dead, but what a terrible actor. He couldn't remember his lines to save his soul 20 years ago.
