Farewell, Loki

Well, this is a fucking sad shot to the heart. Mickey Rourke's beloved best friend and confidante, Loki, has passed on to the cat cookie bakery in the sky at the tender age of 18 (in human years). Mickey's rep confirmed to E! that Loki trotted off to heaven on Monday night.

When Mickey won the Golden Globe he thanked his dog friends for being the only constant love in his life. And if Mickey wins the Oscar on Sunday, I'm sure Loki will be watching from above. It's pretty fucking depressing that Loki couldn't be there with Mickey. I'm sure she had a rhinestone-covered outfit all picked out!

Rest in peace, Loki.... You will be forever missed!

The dog is so lovely, haha...I would like to have one too.

I'm actually really sad for him; the dog was the only constant love in his life? That honestly makes me tear up; I don't want to even THINK about losing my doggies...*sniff,sniff*

sad. poor Mickey, he did love that cute little mutt. Dogs are so amazing. In my family the dog is the only member that loves everyone and that everyone loves. She is the glue that holds us together.

Well if its any comfort to you animal lovers there is an afterlife for them. I had to put my beloved 18 yr old cat down after 2 years of suffering and that night when i was half asleep half awake, who is prancing around on my bed? Yup, my little love - she looked like she did when she was young. It wasn't a dream - I was aware of my surroundings. She came to say good-bye and let me know she was happy and so relieved to be free of her sick body.

I can find no fault with a man who can so passionately love his pets. Little Loki lived a great life with Mickey.

Im truly very saddened by this, I saw it on the news this morning and then The View, because BaBa Walter is interviewing him in her pre Oscar show. I really do feel awful, my heart goes out to him and his Loki who is running free and wild on the Rainbow Bridge. Im sure he is so heartbroken that even winning the Oscar cant replace the devestation he feels towards his animals. Just make me love him even more that is an absolutely looney animal love like myself. Im very much an animal person and take in fosters/rescues, anything, I have up to 5 fosters at once, plus my own 2 dogs. I do animal rescue, not as my main job but its almost 7 days a week between emailing, posting for these shelter dogs, they all deserve a 2nd chance. Im an advocate for the Bully breeds, I own 2 and they are the best, most loveable breeds ever. If you want a guard dog, a pitbull is the wrong choice. Anyone deciding to want this breed, please, I beg of you, do your homework on them, they are high energy, too intelligent and need plenty of exercise otherwise you will not have a good dog on your hands.
Please people, adopt and dont buy, cause thousands of animals go down each month in the NYC's shelter systems. And the shelter system is horrible, although they bullshit that it is kept clean, etc, they're so full of shit, Im there at least 4 x a week, they're horrible, dirty and dont give the dogs a long amount of time. They are some good workers there that care, but the other lowlves there, in it just for a paycheck, people make me sick, doing rescue for 7 years have made me lose alot of my faith in humanity, that is why I stick and will only help animals. People can go fuck themselves, they can help themselves, animals cant they depend on us. And time after time people fail them. :( :(

Bless you Loki. And Bless you Mickey Rourke for treating your dog with the love and respect animals deserve. Sadness all around.

I hope you win the Oscar. I went to see The Wrestler last night and it was fabulous.

And if any of you bitches can adopt a dog, now is a good time to do it. Because of the economic crap, people are giving up their dogs en masse. Most shelters have doubled their intake of surrenders in the last two weeks.
Try petfinder.com for the breed you want. Highly recommend a japanese chin if you've got time and want a mellow small dog. Or bring your shelter some food and old blankets and treats.

well animals are all about UNCONDITIONAL love. and Mickey knows it! I know it too! My Dixie is my daughter and my angel! My original Dixie was too(I grew up in the south hence the name Dixie!). I got Dixie II after 15 - 20 years without a dog, cat or anything. I pour all my love and nurturing into her, and she really is no longer a dog, more like a person with four legs and fur...but more loving! I dread the day she has to depart...I feel for you Micky and just for loving a four legged fur baby so much, I am sure you will win this weekend. My prayers are for you and Loki!

No, I haven't seen it..

Back when my doggie passed, my sister sent me a Hallmark animated "pet sympathy" E-card that got me bawling, it was so beautiful. Something about one more star in the sky, I forget what else, but it was enough to make me bawl.

I don't want to know what a whole book like that would do to me.

Aw, look how Happy Mickey looks in the last photo - you can just tell that Loki was the light of his life. >Hugs< to Mickey - you've been through enough.

Awwww I feel so bad for Mickey You could see how very much he loved Loki. He must be devestated. I didn't realize she was that old. I'm glad he had her for as long as he did but it sucks that dogs have such very short lifespans. We need them here with us for longer.

he's got a fucking hatchet face...but i feel bad for him. :(

Sometimes when you love a person or pet so much, when they pass over, you get an extra push of good luck. Like more love is watching over you. He could win this weekend.

This guy can certainly have his moments, but when he mentioned that little girl was the love of his life I was sold on all things Mickey. I feel so terrible for him right now because what's he's going through is fucking awful.

Now I'm going to go bawl over the ashes of GiGi, my departed kitty. Best cat ever.

It's nice to come on here and see the touching comments about Rourke's dog. Usually when I see an animal post on here (something attention whore-ish PETA has done) 99% of the messages are "animals are tasty! I'm gonna eat an extra animal today just for that!"

I don't care if it's a dog or a cow or a pig or a cat... they're all special little souls.

RIP Loki

How sad!!! I'm dealing with health problems with my "elderly" dog right now, & I dread when the day comes that she leaves me.

WTFOMGLOL's picture

Before even reading this, I started crying
just this morning for my 11 year old Collie I had put to sleep 9 years ago. I just started thinking about how I had found him as a 2 month old stray in a supermarket parking lot, and his owners, when located, didn't want him back. so I kep him. He was the most beautiful sweetest natured puppy I had ever seen, and had a heart of solid gold. Never let me out of his sight, and slept on the bed with us every night. I will never not have a dog, if I can help it.

This story breaks my heart. There is nothing better than a dog...they are love on four paws. My sister's pug, Pugsley, was my favorite creature in the history of my lifetime. What that says about my life, I don't know, but I loved him more than life itself.

R.I.P. Loki. Enjoy playing with all the wonderful pups who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge, including Pugsley.

Barb Dwyer's picture

Sucks...

All those pics of him bringing the pup with him (and not like some lollipop headed bitch who uses him solely to accessorize) is touching. He thanked him for being a constant love? That made me a little teary. I like m Rourke a little more now I think.

Suze said: It's a bastard of a contract we sign up for when we let a dog adopt us.
We all know how bad it's going to end, but we keep on doing it.

Suze, that may be the best description of it I've ever heard. I think we must keep on doing it because dogs are better people than humans and make us better people by knowing us.

RIP Loki. Mickey must be absolutely devastated right now; I can't imagine how losing your best friend at the highest point of your career must feel. So sad.

BobsBB's picture

That dog was the only thing I thought was genuine about him. It sucks when they die - you know it's gonna happen, but even after 18 years (my last boy was 17 when we lost him) it hurts.
