The LAPD Is Investigating "That" Picture
Last night, the photo of RiRi after she allegedly got beaten down by Chris Brown made the internet rounds and back. If you didn't want to see it, you probably ran into it by accident, because it's everywhere and it brings on epic doses of the sads. Even looking at this afterwards doesn't help.
Anyway, the LAPD has launched an internal investigation to find who the hell sold (or leaked) the pic to TMZ. They issued a statement last night asking for the public's help in finding how, what, who, why, etc... They said: "The photograph has the appearance of one taken during an official domestic violence investigation. The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence. A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination."
And today is RiRi's 21st birthday. I think we all need a drink or fifty.

I don't think TMZ is civilly liable or criminally responsible. (Its moral judgment and timing are another question.) I bet it's allowed to buy crime investigation photos. It's presumably an actual photo (not doctored), so there's nothing false about it. It's a matter of much public interest and debate, so the First Amendment kicks in full force.
Also, the DA is secretly happy the photo was published, since it biases the entire possible jury pool and makes a plea deal by CB more likely.
I hate Harvey Levin, but I think the public needs to see this. So many assholes have the response.. what did she do to deserve it... People need to realize he's a monster

While we can all speculate on how Levin and TMZ got the photo, we don't know exactly how he did. Hell, Rihanna's camp could have been the ones to have let the photo leak, or someone close to her. So until we know the true reasons, I do think we should not jump to conclusions yet.
With that said, I am a little happy that the photo was leaked, because it does show that celebs are human (which other comments have expressed). It also gives those who idolize Rihanna that abuse is never OK and to tell someone, instead of running back to their "beater." It's a lesson I hope others who are in a similar situation to hers learns and gets the hell out of any abusive situation ASAP.

I still lay the blame at TMZ's feet (see my previous comment in the Photo Thread itself) for completely destroying the trust of domestic abuse victims in the system. It's a dangerous precedent. No Hollywood star will ever allow herself to be photographed by the police for abuse-related injuries, because she will know that those photos will be splashed over the frontpages of every news website in the world.

I will agree that there is more news about celebrities than actual news. For example, when Holie/Pittful twins were born, even the damn local news was running that shit all damn day. It's like, leave the celebrity gossip/news to the mags and blogs, like dlisted. But, at the same time, celebrities are humans. They piss and shit just like the rest of us. Her being attacked and then left on the street may not mean much to you but it means something to her family. Nobody expects you to care, you don't have to. I see shit like this everyday and have even witnessed it. I don't care anymore about Rihanna than I would for any other woman going through this. You want to talk about a pop star who allows herself to be beating. What about all the other millions of women that go back to their abusive boyfriends time after time? Her being a celebrity doesn't make me care any more about her, so why should it make me care less?
Bottom line, being rich and famous doesn't make you free of problems(Hell, you may even have more); it doesn't make you immune to the shit people have to go through every damn day. Nobody's life is perfect and I don't care how much money you have pouring out your ass.

It's one thing to choose to seek it out but to have no choice in the matter, is where I become disgusted with it all. I only wish there was some hope on the horizon, yet, I see no such glimmer.
Harvey Levin was on local LA TV this morning saying the photo was obtained legally and is not an LAPD photo.
Looking at the photo is entirely heartbreaking. To know that anyone is capable of doing that to someone is super sad and makes me cry.
I've seen a lot of shit in my life, but seeing someone being beat and the after affects is just too much to take.
